I am the LAST old grandpa who would EVER end up watching RU-vid ! And although I love ALL types of fishing.......I’m still not sure how I became a regular viewer here either. With ALL of that denial revealed, I have to say..... I LOVE THIS CHANNEL ❗️❤️ Kids, family dinners, teaching the boys EVERY day how to live a great and full life. Chickens are the ultimate pets !! They are extremely social if handled when they are young and will literally follow you around like a dog . Eat most of your scrap veggies .and they love left eggs. All the while producing you fresh clean protein . Enjoy your pets Mrs Young 🍻

Kelly.... I live on 13 acres of woods in Michigan, having chickens all my life, I have to say there was never a dull moment with these guys, They loved to scratch in the leaves, for worms, and bugs, but every now and then they would find a snake, It would be half in its belly, and the other half hanging out of its mouth, the chicken would be running for its life, because the other chickens wanted the snake, funniest damn thing you ever seen. You will enjoy your girls, there good pets.

Chickens are little dinosaurs!! lol Keep them in the coup for a couple of weeks to learn their home and then let them out, they will go back at dark to roost. Those are golden comets/cinnamon queens and are some egg laying machines!! I have some of them along with barred rock, silver laced wyandotte, buff orpington and white leghorn. Egg, sausage and cheese cupcakes.....well made in a cupcake pan. good stuff.

Kelly. Make sure they have gravel or grit to peck at that's how they they chew food. Also feeding them egg shells makes harder egg shells

Hi, Chicken do need a spot with shade, so make a kind of covering to keep the cool during the hot day. Also make a bathing spot for them to dip ever so often. the next thing is to make some perches for them to rest on in the shade. give them also a variety of fod and very important is to give them food grade diatomaceous earth powder in the food and the area they sleep in in small amount to keep the bugs down. amazon sells the food grade diatomaceous earth in 25 pound bags and a little sifter to do it easily. make sure they have a proper diet the hens to keep the happy chickens.

@@justinxiaoproject6980 actually pigs can be confined and raised in a small area using bedding and there are breeds that are pasture pigs that don’t root at all… so before you go raining on someone’s parade you should be sure to be knowledgeable O_o Bacon, sausage and ribs beat out chickens everyday of the week

My twin and I had a pet chicken once. Short lived. Grandma rung its neck. No playing with dinner. Dinner was curry chicken, coconut rice and sweet plantain. Funny, me and my brother never missed that chicken. Nice vid Kelly and co.

Love your chickens. I grew up in the country n I had chickens they used to fly up on my shoulder n walk around with me. Enjoy your babies. They need small gravel to eat. N you can get laying mash at feed store it helps them lay more eggs.

Kelly, go to your farmers co-op and get a bag of grit, small ground up limestone. it is for digestion help. Chickens have a gizzard which needs small stones in it to grind their food. they will have difficulty eating the fish and other things without it.

So cooool! I just got 3 chicken ladies last December! Learning so much! One tip: GET YOU A COLLOIDAL SILVER MAKER. I was able to save my sick chicken with it from an infection. I now put some in their water each day for immune boosting. You don’t wanna just buy the silver because it’ll run out quick and it’s kind of expensive. Best to make it yourself :) Have funnnn

I told ya they would love it. They'll eat just about anything, save your egg shell and let them dry out some crumble up and toast little then feed to the chickens, calcium us good to make their egg shells harder.....also put some sand in one corner of their pen, they like to fluff their feathers in the sand to keep mites off them. If you burn wood in fireplace you can use ash for them to fluff in also keep mites off....Get you a Rooster to go with them and they'll be able to set the eggs and you'll have baby chicks running around....

It's great the food you feed your own chickens cause what you feed them is the same proteins coming from the eggs,add little fruits too like orange etc helps increase egg size & some may have 2 eggyoks 3 times ah charm👍🏿

Chickens are such a hoot to watch! They will eat ticks and chiggers. I think Blue Gabe was raised around chickens. I bet he wouldn’t eat one of them if they made him! Watch for hawks, coyote, and snakes, Owls. Never thought Kelly would take to Chickens. Lol. You two are made for each other!

Kelly's menagerie!! An old friend OF MINE has a lovely rural property and has a quite a few egg-laying chickens and also one rooster he has named "Stanley".He is a rather cantankerous creature who crows LOUDLY and seemingly non-stop. He even ATTACKS my friend Ron whenever he tries feeding the chickens daily... Methinks "Stanley" may end up being the main dinner guest for a roast capon dinner one night! LOL

it would also be helpful if you supply them with a source for grit, like finely crushed granite and also crushed oyster shells or similar because the calcium helps with egg shell rigidity and the grit helps them digest their food. You should be able to get those things at a good feed store

Kelly honey watch Justin Rhodes on RU-vid. You'll learn everything u wanna know about chickens. Now he does tons with chickens. Raises for meat, eggs, work, etc. Regardless you'll get LOTS of excellent info. Loved seeing you so thrilled. You're such a doll. Have fun. You and Gabe enjoy your new “children.” lol God bless you both. ~Lisa A few tips: keep lavender and oregano in the nesting box. Great all-natural antibiotic and smells nice. You can grow ya some next spring and add a little to their nest boxes once a week. Make sure they have a dust bath. (diatomaceous earth or DE is great) Colloidal silver is a great all-natural antibiotic/antiseptic. Make sure you give them grit and calcium. Lastly, watch out for hawks, lizards, snakes and gators! These are just meant to help not being a know it all or fuss butt.

Kelly, I have 5 and so many eggs. Give them a pumpkin to help with intestinal parasites. And stick an apple on a spike. So many things you can do. They are a ton of fun. Also, research how to test the eggs. I can keep them up to 4 weeks out of the fridge

I like to buy a bag of black oil sunflower seed, cracked corn, oats, rye, and put a cup of DE and seed in a metal trash can and mix it up but it’s good to do a quarter of each bag and some DE then mix that up and repeat till the can is full and they absolutely love mill worms dried

Some of the best pets ever owned, andso many varieties to choose from. I would whistle and they all came to me. They put themselves to bed in the coop, found and ate the small snakes, mice, bugs.. Oh and sometimes they will get droppings on their rear. You’ll have to give them spa days to clean them. One thing I will say is figure out your chicken math. I suspect you’ll have 15-20 chickens before you know it! :)

What they eat first goes into the craw. It's a good idea to have crushed oyster shell or tiny tiny gravel .they eat it and helps grind the food in the craw so they can digest it.

My Brother has chickens and they are like dogs. Follow you around, try to do something in the garage and they are there. He lets them out in the morning and by sunset they are back in the coop without a fuss. It's amazes me when I see it.

Chickens are good to have. They are low maintenance too. Don't get a Rooster they are not friendly like Hens and some are quite mean critters. When I was Luke's age we had a Rooster that hated me and became my nemesis in the yard. Like the man said your stray chicken that hangs around will probably join your 3 Hens when it sees the easy street they're living on. Great vid thanks for sharing.

I love chickens! My family used to have them in the country and had a big chicken coop. They loved to eat the corn on the cob after we finished eating the corn. I would call them the Jail Birds.

me and my fam have had farms and gardens our whole life not real big ones but pretty good-sized. keep like 25 egg layers that free ranged 100 % grass ever day.. and raised many quail. get you some quail and the eggs from the quail I would let a lot of them be born but at times I would take eggs get enough boil them shell them put salt on and eat like popcorn watching a movie at night.

I have some Silver Laced Wyandottes that are the calmest birds you have ever seen, if you sit on my front porch you will soon have a bird or two sitting in your lap even if you are new to them. Great birds, until the crap on you...lol

Kelly I have chickens they love everything watermelon table scraps bread in the summer time I make them frozen corn cups use your cupcake pan put corn in each cup use the juice from the can fill them up and put in the freezer they love this when it’s really hot and it gives them something to do

This reminds me of when I was younger I use to have pigeons, I started of with 4 but they breed like crazy then suddenly I had about 30 and my favourite was a blue grey coloured one which I caught he was a stray and he became the boss of the aviary he wasn’t the biggest but all the others were afraid of him , then one day I was coming home from school and my dad and uncle were plucking about 15 to eat and I was in tears but luckily they didn’t kill my favourite one which I named Butter because he use make noise like he was saying butter. One day a cat got into the cage and all the pigeons didn’t want to go back in there because they normally go in there to sleep at night and I lock it up and the next day Butter was missing and I was so upset I didn’t want to have pigeons anymore because I didn’t want my dad to eat them anymore.

Kelly Young now as chicken girl as well as swimin with the sharks! Humm love them chickens talk about soothing to the soul! Feed them all your veggie discards! Even meat like a beaver! They are happy with everything and fish yummy. Make sure you call them by name!!!!! They learn that also!

They won't run away from the day you start feeding them they not going anywhere. when eating from your hands that means they feel very comfortable to do so. You can give them a little sugar in the water for a month and then you have nothing to worry about. I'm from Jamaica so i know this. I use to have chicken too Even now my mom still do.🇯🇲💯🇩🇪

You you feed them whistle or say something like chic-chic-chic-chicken. They will start to come to you even if you don't have food after a few weeks. I also have a short Jack Russell that will Hurd them back to the coop, but I trained him as a puppy to do it. Good luck 👍

Kelly, you need to go around with a bebe gun and shoot lizards. I used to do that when I had chickens and it was their favorite snack. if you can make a video about it that would be cool maybe even do a competition with the boys to see who can get the most lizards lol.
