I regret that I just rushed through so many of his strips, because the writing was so good and the punchlines never disappointed. You notice the art, but you don't fully appreciate it. It's nice to go back and explore the extra dimension.

Been a long time Calvin and Hobbes fan but thanks to Cartoonist Kayfabe because I never knew about these books. Just got my Sunday Pages 1985 - 1995 in the mail. RIP Ed 🕶️

Is it wrong that I went straight to eBay to buy a copy of each before I was two minutes into your video?! Keep up the cutting edge content, gentlemen!

Watching this has been a real joy. Love hearing your giddy enthusiasm for what is without doubt the high watermark of the craft. & some off the cuff profound insights into Mr Watterson’s character and creative temperament. Great work, chaps.

I loooove Calvin and Hobbes. Always liked comic strips as a kid but my favorite by far was this one. Its so cool hearing you guys geek out so much over Watterson's work. It really is impressive how much creativity and mastery over the form was on every strip. I didn't appreciate the craft of it when I first read these, but on a subconcious level, you know that what you are reading is something very special and much different from other work from that same time.

Such a wonderful funny and creative artist and I still have all the books from the 90s. Creativity will always find a way to express itself even if you decide to stop with a project. There's always another one to follow it regardless and you don't have to force it, it just happens, be that high art, low art, music, photography or whatever. Bill will always find some outlet for creativity and I love it

Great video as usual! I thought it was really telling that Watterson was willing to lose papers when some pushed back about losing control over the way the Sunday strip was presented. His stand actually effected other strips of the time that now had the option to draw their sunday strips in the new Watterson "tabloid" format. Not too many seemed to run with that, but some like Wiley Miller definitely did and it really changed the Sunday strip experience for the better.

Started watching this and immediately put an edition in my Amazon cart, then went to our second hand book store and found the Sunday Strips collection for $4!

Love this video. I need to read Watterson again after letting the books sit on my shelves for too long.

I learned more game from Watterson than I did from most of the funnybooks I was reading at the time. Gotta respect the man for quitting at the top of his game.

Wow! I had no idea these books existed. My dad loves Calvin and Hobbes and really digs the artist editions I've bought. His birthday is this month so I'm going to go out and buy these now!

Great episode as usual! I remember reading an interview where he said something like he didn't use a pencil on his final pieces so the strokes would be more natural.
