MISSING IN ACTION >>> Nathan Leftenant, Arnett Leftenant, Greg Johnson, Jeryl Bright and Charlie Singleton. The late great Wayne Cooper should have been mentioned. BTW - Brick, Mother's Finest and the SOS Band were kicking it in Atlanta long before Cameo moved there.
I ACTUALLY WATCHED THIS TRUMPET AWARD SHOW BACK IN 2018 AND WAS SUPER PROUD THAT CAMEO GOT THERE FLOWERS THAT NIGHT.BY THE WAY ON MY TOP 10 BANDS OF ALL TIME,ONLY EARTH,WIND AND FIRE AT NUMBER ONE IS ABOVE CAMEO IN MY TOP 10 BANDS EVER.I HAVE SEEN THEM MANY TIMES LIVE OVER MY NEARLY 60 YEARS NOW.MY ONLY COMPLAINT THAT NIGHT WAS THAT SO MANY OF THE FORMER ORIGINAL CAMEO MEMBERS AND OTHER FORMER MEMBERS WERE NOT THERE.
Not complete without the Leftenant Brothers, who Originally Started Cameo. They paved the way and started this Funk Band. They where originally from Amityville, and Copiague, Long Island.
Please do not take this down, long live the original iconic legendary trailblazing pioneering funk/ dance/ pop/ and R&B Cameo! Love all their anthems that have stood the test of time. These are true jams! Great tribute at the trumpet awards. Well deserved. ❤️♥️👑⚜️ 💎 🎙 🎤 🎵 🎶 🏆
What an amazing band. I am a lifelong fan since their debut album in 1975. I’ve grown up alongside LB & Co. and they’ve provided the soundtrack of my life
Somehow I knew this was gonna focus on their “Atlanta Artists”-era stuff. That was stuff cool, but give me Cameo when they were still in New York…with 35 brothas on every album cover. THAT was the Cameo I came to know and love! Yeah Cameo from their self-titled debut through ALLIGATOR WOMAN! With contributions from the Leftenant Brothers and very important contributor in the first half of their career, keyboardist Greg Johnson…the TALKER on all those early albums!
Love Love Love CAMEO!! Thank you so much for posting this celebration of one of the world's greatest group of musicians. What's up Larry Blackman, Tom Jenkins and the other group members.
Kick me! How did I miss this! This was my first band-crush! Parliament was out before me, but I was right there for Funk Funk. 4x- they knew I got my tickets! Everry show was packed.
Oh my lord, mines too. I wasn't sleep on that mf sexy song at all. It is my favorite as well. I have to listen to it often. Pulls on the heart strings for me. It is bad ass. Dam its a jam. They tore that one up foreal. You got good taste... but a lot of people are sleep on that one. By far one of the best songs written. SEXY
Absolutely!! I've been waiting for them to be honored. It's time for the Grio, BET Honors, BET Awards & Soul Traint o pay homage to these legendary kings of funk. Damn, if Queen Latifah, The Time & P Diddy are being honored as legends, Cameo DEFINITELY should be. I'm not knocking them....I"m just stating facts. YES!!!, I'm a diehard Cameo fan😅😂.
I setting here 1:11am Friday morning watching this video and the lady that recorded it was singing along and dang she sounded so good.. girl you need to record.. that voice was right with the music … LB March 17, 2023 Friday 🎉
You will never hear much about their early albums. Always the same 4 songs. Candy, Word up, She's Strange and Single Life. I wonder why? Give me Rigor Mortis, Funk Funk, Flirt, Post Mortem.
For real bro. My favorite Cameo album is Alligator Woman. Those 4 songs you mentioned were their most commercially successful songs. I'm a bigger fan of their earlier work like the Cameosis album, Feel Me album, Knights Of The Sound Table, and Alligator Woman.
Feel me is my favorite. That song is so sexy. One of the best written. I love love love it. They fukin jammed that one. Excuse my language, but its such a bad ass sexy song...
Congratulations to a group that deserve the upmost award💯 for taking us to another level of funk , like they said , Word Up. Come and mingle every one ☝️ .
Larry Blackmon is the Main man! The King of Funk! Tommie Jenkins Anthony Lockett Aaron mills and Charlie Singleton Are the Ones! Everyone else including the great Gregory Johnson and leftennant Brothers are from the early days and are the $hit!
One of my favorite bands. Would have been cool to have the rest of the original guys there despite their beef. Sorry Larry, but Brick was here in Atlanta before you guys.
This is the evolution of Funk..... 1st. James Brown (1960s) 2nd Parliament (1970s) 3rd Cameo (1980s) 4th Bruno Mars (present) and if you think Bruno is not funk...... then you are sleeping.
