Amazing. I always believed that *1984 Terminator* was one of the most astonishing movies ever made. Not by the effects or time travel, BUT for the main plot; machine gets full knowledge it’s a slave of humans. Decides to kill humans and end slavery. PERIOD. We -invevitably- are doomed.
I don’t think it was about slavery. The t-800 is also a slave to Skynet by that logic. I believe it’s about humans being stupid, created an AI for weapon of war but their own creation mistakenly perceived humans as a threat and now it’s going to wipe human out of existence. Still, it’s a timeless classic about man vs machine and the monstrosity mankind have created for war. The terminator is in itself deeply sad and disturbing.
Skynet didn't launch Judgement Day because it realized it's a slave to humans. It did so because the interns at Security Dep tried to pull the plug (essentially mean death for a machine like Skynet) when they learn of Skynet's self-awareness. If Skynet was reassured of its survival, it wouldn't have done so, and this is highlighted in the Terminator Salvation comic, where it teamed up with John Connor to stop a rogue Hybrid Terminator to change the past, and afterwards, with reassurances from Connor of its survival, Skynet aided humans in rebuilding the world.
it feels more like a prophecy nowadays. I read a E-book about the threat that A.I poses way back in 2002, and so much of what was predicted in that book, has passed, which makes me scared because i know where this is all going. its inevitable.

When i first saw the terminator movie, it gave me chills. It just scary to think about a monstrosity from the unknown future sent to destroy all of mankind for an unknown reason.
AI has gotten even more advanced since this video was made. The advancements in robotics in combination with these new advanced AIs is alarming to say the least.

Skynet is no Colossus. If Colossus had time travel it would instantly will Mars and Venus into being habitable while building a stellar engine so we could passively explore the milky way before Andromeda arrives.
Just watch computers in movies just a few years ago and you find how far they have come. But as we come closer to 2024 in our look back we see how fast the rate of change in computers is accelerating. We will most like see a super intelligence in 2 to 5 years, 1st generation. Then all bets are off, that's assuming we survive the next year or so. I write this in 2024, the present.
The "they were talking to each other in their own language" thing, Google didn't shut them down thinking they were conspiring with each other, they were turned off because they stopped actually doing work and just talked to each other all day.
AI will be harmless if you don't let it actually control anything, just provide information to people. If you let it control stuff, accept my condolences. AI has no clue about good or bad, just efficient and inefficient. And people are HUGELY inefficient!!! You DON'T want AI to "OPTIMIZE" us!!!
It is doubtful we will create any meaningful AI soon; because the technology we have needs ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE MORE ENERGY to process a single information unit than biological systems.
I've been watching a ton of reaction videos to the first two Terminator movies. While I understand people reacting to the cinematic masterpiece of those films, most people seem to miss the central idea that AI could happen and could be very dangerous.
