Want to know something funny? When I was a kid growing up I knew all our cows by their faces. When I went to college I worked on a farm and milked in a parlor so I mostly only saw the cows udders so that’s how I recognized each cow. Now as a trimmer I recognize them by their feet. The first thing I look at on a cow is her feet. Even statues of cows. 😆😂

I hate when vets or doctors say something is too dangerous to do and leave it to only become MORE dangerous by growing more out of control. Not only does it become more dangerous bc rupture/snag risk but it can also severely hamper quality of life. It just reminds me of all the patients on dr pimple popper whose drs said it was only a cosmetic thing and let's it get the size of a football, clearly causing pain, discomfort, and shame.

Thrush can actually be caused by types of bacteria AND by types of fungus. This is where you need to have swabs taken to identify it.
@NatetheHoofGuy
@NatetheHoofGuy 3 года назад
Yes other microbes can be responsible for thrush to set in by creating degradation of the tissues (as the treponema bacteria did in my video) however the infection itself is most commonly bacterial. www.merckvetmanual.com/musculoskeletal-system/lameness-in-horses/thrush-in-horses
@SarahJSwift
@SarahJSwift 3 года назад
@@NatetheHoofGuy yes, exactly. If it's one type of either, and it isn't responding to a certain type of disinfectant, or cleansing solution, a swab can help identify which bacteria/fungus and point in the direction of which topical solution would work best. For example hibuscrub, which is chlorhexidine sulphate, gluconate? (From memory, haven't used it in a while), doesn't kill every single type of bacteria out there. But there's so many different families of disinfectants and not all can be used in animals because they're toxic. I've used oxytetracycline before, a few times, sometimes it's worked and other times it hasn't. But I came across a simple spray that works to alter the pH of the foot to stop it from developing thrush. Apple cider vinegar and water at a fifty fifty rate. 👌

You just made everything I've seen you do, understandable. I've never spent much time with cows, by time I was old enough to understand what was going on, my grandpa done sold off 90% of the livestock, he was getting too old and out of his 3 son's, only one was interested in the farm life but him n gpa didn't get along and it wasn't until he past away, that my uncle took over the farm and by then everything was falling apart and it's taken us about 3 years to get it somewhat up and going, we're only able to handle some goats, chickens, roosters, and a donkey, for now, because we all work and the farm is far from self reliance. Anyway, I've taken a liken to your videos but didn't understand why you did things a specific way but comparing it w the hair and nails really got me

It's just over growth of cells is my understanding. I seen one removed in Ireland dairy farm it was on the side of the cow. It was bigger than a softball they cut double amount of skin with it without touching anything inside the cavity of cow. It was as if you peel an orange. They took skin off completely. It was so cool. And then they sewed it up. Very cool

Seeing the thrush between the claws answered a question I’ve been curious about. I’ve been learning more about equine hoof care, and seeing the near constant battle some owners have with thrush in and around the frog just let me curious about other critters with hooves. I figured that it would be something cattle had to contend with, but hadn’t seen it explicitly said as the same equines deal with. Thanks!

Very interesting video. I would be interested in more like it. Also,, I'd like to know what a trained dermatologist would say about that growth. The only impediment to excising that growth would be vascularity. If it's not a cyst, it could be a lipoma and that would probably justify just leaving it since dairy cows are usually destroyed after their fourth or final freshening. I'd still be interested in knowing what that growth actually is, though. 🙂

I take issue for the veterinarian not taking action faster or most likely the owner never noticed it or until you saw it and did a ‘work-around’ that helped to ease the obvious discomfort. Were any tissues samples taken of the growth to determine exactly what it actually was? Was the cow due to calve in the next couple of weeks, and then be put down? If a dairy cow and not knowing exactly what type of disease process it was. How long did the cow live with the mass, and did it continue to grow? After death, was the growth examined to find the cause of such a unique growth. Lots of questions and I apologize, but I just needed the last puzzle piece & chapter of her story to complete the picture and find the answer of such a interesting case. Thank you for presenting these cases❣️☀️🌷
@NatetheHoofGuy
@NatetheHoofGuy 3 года назад
The owner and veterinarian had looked at her well before this. We treated this foot for about a year and half up to this point. My job was to make her more comfortable. The vet didn’t want to remove because he said it was full of blood vessels and it may have permanently damaged the rest of her foot if removed. If it did, that would be fatal for a cow.
@margaretmorris4419
@margaretmorris4419 3 года назад

@agua9999

Even if that growth was benign, it should’ve been removed by the vet (imho). Any other part of the body could be ignored by the cow, but a foot tumor would’ve been assaulted with each & every step. I feel bad for that cow.
