In this video I tested essential oils (Lemon Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, and Liquid Coconut Oil) to see if any of those could stop bacteria from growing on a Petri dish. Do you clean with essential oils? I would love for you to put your DIY Essential Oil Cleaner recipes in the comments. I am searching for recipes or ratios of essential oil to distilled water to test in a few months. #essentialoils #cleaning

@@FieldOfFocus I'm in Australia so we don't use quarts here, but i just looked up a tonne of recipes. the all purpose cleaner recipes vary per recipe. some have 1/4c vinegar to 1 3/4c water to a ratio of 1cup each. the drop concentration ranges from 20-50 drops per 16oz (30 being the average for a recipe) and most say it's just for the smell but at those concentrations i wonder if they work! I'd probably test out the 30 drops first. Before bothering lower in case it makes no difference. But if u go too high one could be potentially spending so much money on the oils! Or it's still not an effective concentration. thieves oil seems to be the "germ killing" recommendation: rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus, cloves, cinnamon. But it's clear from your tests that thyme and cinnamon and to a degree tea tree oil are very stellar at their germ killing ability too that there is a ring around it where germs don't grow, so one woudl suspect diluted it might have the best chance of being effective.

Thank you so much for this video. I have so many plant therapy essential oils that I need to use I was so excited that I came across this video. If you do another essential oil test video I would love to see plant therapy which is not a multi-level marketing company so it's more affordable. For those that are concerned they do give you the test results of each batch and have aroma therapist on staff for any questions.

Hello! I haven't explored other brand oils yet, I have a viewer suggestion list of about 250! I have heard of Plant Therapy and good to hear they have the certificates, doterra does the same, that was one of the reasons I chose them. Is there any particular oils you would like to see petri dish tested like this? If I have it I could do it sooner rather than later but if I have to order it I might wait, although it will be the doterra brand for now. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@FieldOfFocus Plant Therapy is about an average of $10 to $15 for a 10ml vs deterra I think is an average of $35 for 10ml. I didnt know that DeTerra gave the test results that is nice, I mainly lookied into Y.L. and it was crazy pricey. Plant Therapy has a germ fighter (not kid safe) and germ destroyer (kid safe version) which I think would be intresting to see if it does better than the single oils that you have already tried or the same. And/Or they have 3 differnt Multi-Surface Cleaner Concentrate ( 3rd is a Christmas tree blend that is discounted $1 for being after the season) that are $8.99 for two 30ml. That would be intresting to see how good they are and they say that the cleaners will cut through grease. In the cleaning set of essinal oils they also have a blend called Citrus Burst that might be intresting to see if it works better than the single blend of Lemon, I bet it smells amazning. If you get the Planet Therapy oils from the website vs Amazon you get a free sticker, I love stickers, they also have a 90 day money back guarantee, and shipping is free to the US, it might only be the lower 48 states. Kid safe vs not kid safe there is a list of essientail oils that considered safe for kid under 10, 2, 1 years of age and 6, 3 months. Robert Tisserand is the world expert on modern day essential oil use and he is who places like Planet Therapy follow for what is kid safe and what is not. Cinnomon, clove, peppermint, eucalyptus are some that are not safe for kids under 10. Please forgive any mis spellings, I am bad at spelling and I always hit the wrong lettings on the keyboard due to not paying attention.

Another great video! I'm binging on you today, and I really need to get back to work, but you're just so much fun, I Can't. Stop. Watching. LOL A comment re the coconut oil: I've read over the years that coconut oil is supposed to have antibacterial properties, but I'm pretty sure that was always referring to full-on coconut oil. I wonder if the processing required to convert it to fractionated coconut oil removes any of those antibacterial properties? I'd be curious to see a comparison of pure virgin coconut oil versus fractionated coconut oil on the sink and toilet. Not that anyone would necessarily use those as a cleaning agent, but for wound care, as another viewer pointed out, it could be good. And for me, it may be helpful to know if it's possibly coincidentally keeping the germ count down in my sink as a by-product of my cleaning process. My cleaning routine for my sink involves first spraying it with OnGuard cleaner, letting it sit for five minutes, then coming through with a paste of citric acid, lemon juice, a few drops of OnGuard, and blue Dawn dish soap. I let that sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse with hot water, and smile at the beautiful shiny (stainless steel) sink! But as a final step, I keep an old spice container that I filled with some regular full-on virgin coconut oil (Kirkland brand) plus about 10 drops of OnGuard (oil) mixed in, and I put about a teaspoon into each side of the double sink and buff to a shine. This process helps the water to bead up and keeps the sink looking great all week until I rinse-and-repeat. I usually keep an empty sink throughout the day, and as I use it, I wipe it dry, and sometimes midweek, I'll make another pass with the coconut oil/OnGuard mixture. I have been doing the coconut oil wipe strictly for the water beading effect and to maintain the shine, but I wonder if I've also been contributing to reducing germs and bacteria by way of the OnGuard mixture (which I mostly use in that mix because it smells so good). So I think a great experiment would be to clean the sink with whatever your preferred and most effective method is to reduce the germs, then do the coconut oil/OnGuard wipe on half of the sink (I suppose you'd need to use a paper towel to ensure a germ-free wiping medium), then use the sink as normal for a few days, then swab both sides of the sink and see how the germs and bacteria compare. Your To-Do Wish List is never going to stop growing. The possibilities are endless LOL! Keep up the good work. Now excuse me while I back awaaaaaaaay from the Play button, or at least try to, so I can earn some money LOL! ~Karen :)
@FieldOfFocus
@FieldOfFocus Год назад
Hi Karen, Thank you so much for the great comments!!! I appreciate your thoughts! You make a great point about the coconut oil, I agree that I think the coconut oil is more for wound care, as putting it down a drain could cause a drain to clog as it solidifies. I would like to test pure virgin coconut oil versus the fractionated one… that would be an interesting comparison. Thank you for sharing your sink cleaning routine, it sounds super effective at disinfecting as well as keeping it looking shiny! I do have the OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate, I just purchased some last month, so I have an unopened bottle. I will be testing that out soon with my bacteria testing. You are right, there are sooooooo many things to test!!! It is crazy! I have to let my house get a bit dirty and grimey between each cleaner to ensure I have enough bacteria to perform an adequate test.. But I will keep plugging along!! Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and enjoying my channel!!

Great Test! I wish you would do the 'bleach' over, because I suspect that even the 'fumes' can affect bacteria when 'closed in' a container and I'd like to see if that's true or not and to what degree, (how much bacteria growth near the drop of bleach, compared to how much bacteria on the other side of the 'closed' dish). ~Also to be fair, I think it would help to have a test done on the actual type of 'oil' which is used to make the essential oils, so we could be certain if the lack of bacteria was due to the herb vs the oil.
