Thank you for posting. I'm here in Canada and at 3 am my furnace belt broke and after searching RU-vid I found your video and had it back up and running. 7:22 am and I finally have heat coming through the vents. Again thank you, really a big help.

I wonder if some 50lb fishing line would work. Every loop would double the strength. Could probably do 5 or six rounds to get 250 to 300 lbs of strength.

Your awesome!!! I'm a chic, an older one and started learning how to work on my own vehicles when I was 16 cuz my husband always bought cheap cars. They were always breaking down and I had to figure out what was wrong in order to fix it and get back home again. Or fix em to leave. And fix them I would. We still had carbs, 8 cyls and rear wheel drive, the old days. I'm not complaining I learned so much and have found I am pretty resourceful. If I had it all to do over again I would not change a thing. There's not a whole lot I cant do but sometimes I run into problems and I will check your videos before any others. Your down to earth and easy to understand. Right to the point. I wish I found you sooner. Thank you so much for sharing

Looks good! I have the same situation with a pillar drill and have a problem sourcing the exact part. As for the wire, I might try putting the "bump" on the top. Then there is the panty-hose technique. Used this 39 years ago but lasted only a mile or so. At least it got us off the motorway (freeway in US?) Keep up the good work!

I tried this and searched and found this 😂. It didn’t work for me then I watched your video so I decided to double up on the hay waiter and it still snapped. Snowblower. Problem is my machine got a cheap belt. I only used my snowblower 4 times. Brand new decent unit too. I have a 35 year old rototiller stall it out on massive rocks many times. The belt has never broken. Store it outside in the elements all year long. They just don’t make stuff like they used to.

Great fix! One suggestion: Once you've sized the wire and angles on it, push it through from the BOTTOM of the belt. Those nice recesses you notched out will protect the pulleys and the excess wire you can twist together without interfering with anything around the outside of the pulley's-at least on this application.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 6 лет назад
Yes, in a standard application that would be ideal but also the bottom of the V in the pulley never touches the belt.

GREAT VIDEO!! In the old days people used to do this with the flat belts to run sawmills and other types of machinery. I remember seeing a piece of metal that joined the two ends together. Brilliant! Nice fix for a mower and such. would there be a reason why you wouldn't put the baling wire "joint" on the top of the belt? It seems the solid wire in the "V" of the pulley might be less damaging to the pulley and the slot you cut would receive the wire much better. I realize the top of the belt would be rubbing on the tensioner pulley. However, that's less critical than the trough of the shaft pulley. Your thoughts.

Wondering how this will improve using the 3M Scotch-Weld and which PR number would be better? I was just looking at a Singer 758 belt repair that has those gear teeth like design and someone cut the belt at an angle like face splice so each gear tooth had a small pin pushed through one side to the other reported as leaving the head on the one side and bending the other worked best. I was thinking adding PR100 or whatever the best number to use is... alone to try and with the needles in the holes so can cut the pin end on each side or at least not have to bend.

If you find that magic piece of donor rubber...... I think some good glue (contact cement maybe) along with several small metal screws, wood screws or shortened drywall screws placed every couple of inches apart countersunk would make a good bond. I like your idea, you will figure out something. If you wanted traction and was desperate you could use the screws alone leaving them out a little to get a bite as long as it doesn't tear the grass up too much. That would look a little crude for sure but if it works, what to heck.
@wtam69
@wtam69 9 лет назад
John Michael I was thinking of contact cement too and maybe a section of BMX bicycle tires. Since the 2 new gear wheels cost $50, a diy job is worth doing. Like you said, I have to find that right piece of rubber.

Wow, I didn't think it was possible. I will be tossing some bailing wire and a hole punch in my emergency travel kit for now on!! I'll practice on an old piece until I get the hang of it. ...you make it look easy especially that angled cut what did you use? I guess a box cutter should be tossed in my kit as well. Thanks again for the great idea.

George Serrano The belt was just roughly cut to the same angle with a pocket knife. You can use fishing line as well with good results.
