I’m 100% combined disabled veteran. I wonder if I can receive Social Security and if you don’t know how much is Social Security for 100% disabled veteran?
The SSA website states that a Vet must be 100% PT , and must be unable to work for a year, or a medical condition that will result in death. They have a Wounded Warrior program, and the rules are about the same. In other words, if a Vet has a 50% VA rating, this does NOT mean he's gonna get a SSA check, you must be unable to work, or find a job you can do!
Hi, I wish I had known about this eight weeks ago. Local SS office said Vet cannot apply for social security disability once they turn 66. Will be visiting a townhall with VBA and will ask them to highlight this - SS disability could be available and 66 is max age.
I'm at 90% with IU with a T&P totaling 100 % I'm also receiving a disability pension from my civilian jobs. my civilian job we didnt pay into SSI, but I had my 40 quarters before i got on the fire bureau! I've not worked for 6 yrs! Can i apply for ssdi?

I was told by a disability lawyer that I could not receive SS since I was 100%PT and that I don’t have enough credits...also I would not get my SS or what I have put into it until I turn 62

Absolutely file with social security. You can do it online. There is a place on the application where you can say you are 100% disabled by VA. They will fastrack your application. SSDI is earning based, SSI, if not enough work history. Good luck!
I am VA service connected at 20%. My Doctor encouraged me to apply for SS due to blood thinner preventing from taking aspirin, pain meds and surgery of any kind that present risk. I have a torn meniscus and osteoarthritis in both knees. I am still work would I have to hit my job?
If what you say is true. Explain why Social Security, denies everything you are saying? A 90% Disabled Veteran, is told they are not allowed to "double dip;"as they call it. Vets are only allowed to receive their Basic Social Security Benefits.
If a Vet is receiving service connected benefits from the VA and is approved for DIB SSDI (the one they worked and paid into), they can receive both benefits at the same time, they will not affect one another. It is not double dipping. When filing for Social Security, it is a long and challenging process. It can take a long time but it is not impossible. The life of a Social Security disability claim can take 3 years or longer from application. It is 95% common to be denied twice and go to hearing. The hearing level on average can take 2 years alone.
If I am a retired Marine who draws a pension and am 90% disabled from the VA is it what you are saying, that I should apply for SSDI instead of SSI when I retire completly?

I have applied 3 times denied all three times, 99% TP IU. I have a letter from the SS telling me just because the VA declared me unfit to works does not mean they have to. I was told I would never receive my SS once I reach retirement age as well. Spoke with a lawyer said the judge would deny me due to age and female I gave up 3 years ago

Yes, you can get SSI benefits and a Service Connected Disability benefits. I do recieve both, but you do need to get a Lawyer to help you get SSI benefits
Can you get Social Security and tdiu at the same time and if so it's a good applying for Social Security at 62 or 67. I was service-connected up to 90% and I couldn't get it up to a hundred percent that I applied for tdiu and I got awarded for that by the VA.
