Can Pikmin 4 FINALLY Catch a Break? 

Can Pikmin 4 finally catch a break or is it all doom and gloom for the series after this? Will we see sales explode or is this our one last hurrah?

Well, considering that the trailer got OVER a million views, I think Pikmin 4 won’t fail in sales

i'm 200% confident that pikmin is gonne do well! the argument of the console being replaced by another one doesnt really count in my opinion i mean, the nintendo switch sold so well, even if there was a new console out there people would still sit on the for a while

It's... certainly gonna interesting to see what happens with Pikmin 4, no other choice really but to just see how it does bc I have NO CLUE what is gonna happen as we get closer to it's release... but hey! Pikmin 3 Deluxe DID become the best selling Pikmin game when it released and it had to compete with Age of Calamity! Still though, I do wish Pikmin 4 released before Totk so that it had more of chance to get some popularity but who knows, maybe Nintendo will market the HELL out of Pikmin for once! We jsut have to wait and see

If Nintendo does make a new console i wouldn't worry too much because the game could get migrated to it like how Wii and Wii U games can be played on the switch

Y know this reminds me of that one scene in the brawl subspace story where all the ships are blasting off into the void but olimars ship from pikmin 2 is struggling and just barley makes it through, it feels like a representation of pikmin struggling as a mainline IP despite how good it is

I predict this will be the most or 2nd most (behind pikmin 3 deluxe) sold pikmin game of all time considering it's finally coming out on a big platform rather than their 2 least popular consoles of all time

I'll be frank, I think Pikmin is always going to be a niche series just because of what kinds of games they are. Pikmin was always one of those series with more "arcade-y" sensibilities, similar to Star Fox and F-Zero. Right now tons of content, story, visuals and brand recognition sells more than actual gameplay, especially with the price of AAA games now, risks can't be made anymore. I don't doubt that Pikmin 4 will have plenty of content, but it likely wouldn't be anywhere near the level of Zelda. The game also has amazing visuals, but I know that the art direction and character design will be a turn off for a lot of people. That said, Pikmin also seems to be Miyamoto's golden child that he doesn't to let die. I also have a feeling that we'll probably get a Pikmin 4 Deluxe on whatever the next Nintendo console will be, especially since every mainline Pikmin game has had an enhanced port. Regardless of what happens, it's important is to always stay passionate about the games. Pikmin will only die if people forget about it.

It's definitely pretty concerning when looking at basically every Pikmin game release, all games doing quite bad compared to other sales, but I have a good feeling about Pikmin 4 since Pikmin has now had time to gather a larger following with 3 Deluxe, and considering how long it's been anticipated and in development, I Think it has a good Shot.

For the past week I have been alternating between Botw and Pikmin 3 Deluxe

Pikmin 4 oddly has a release date that lines up with the day Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were on the moon and July 21st was the day they left the moon. Maybe means they are exploring other planets than PNF 404?

If I'm being honest, as hyped as I am for Tears of the Kingdom I do look forward to Pikmin 4 much more. Pikmin has always been my comfort game (especially Pikmin 3, due to how easy it is, as well as its chill soundtrack).

Pikmin 3 deluxe was the best selling Pikmin game, and it was a simple deluxe edition. Pikmin 4 will definitely sell well. Not as well as Zelda, sure, but it's finally a new game coming on a popular console. And I don't think Zelda will steal Pikmin 4's spotlight. Both can coexist.

i believe that if you make amazing art, people will come to see it; pikmin 4 is amazing art!! even if it doesnt have the fattest sales on launch, it will be remembered as a perfect and polished game!! fingers crossed, atleast..

I think the two and a half month space between the games should give it enough time. In fact, I predict that Nintendo is going to have a span of a few weeks after pikmin 4 comes out when absolutely nothing is known to be upcoming. Miyamoto holds a lot of value to those at Nintendo, so I think he is purposely putting pikmin 4 in a video game drought so it is the only option for people wanting a new AAA game. If the next Nintendo console is going to be revealed any time soon, I think it will be during that live, in-person, Seattle event in September. *TLDR: Nintendo is probably isolating Pikmin 4 from other events to give it more attention.*

Great video. I'm more optimistic. Hey Pikmin and Pikmin Bloom show they want to develop the franchise and they developed Pikmin 4 knowing full well how Pikmin 3 Deluxe performed. I don't need Pikmin to do Mario numbers - but Fire Emblem/Xenoblade/Wario Ware numbers seem really achievable and I'm sure the game was budgeted accordingly.

I wouldn't be too worried, 2 months is still a long time in the gaming space, even something like Tears of the Kingdom will be petering out a bit after that long, and even if it's after the *announcement* of a new system, it's unlikely to end up being after the *release* of that system. People aren't going to stop buying switch games just because we know the next system is announced.

There's a lot riding on Pikmin 4, but I think it will do well. If it does well then Nintendo might want to start making Pikmin games more often, since you don't want the hype to completely die off in between games. Yet, if it doesn't do well this game could be it for the series. Why put in all this effort only to not have it pay off? I'm not worried though, if the trailers are any indication Pikmin 4 is going to be a hit.

From what I’ve heard, Nintendo’s statistics showed that the most-owned game by people who purchased Pikmin 3 Deluxe was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The franchise is appealing to the crowd that bought the switch for that game. And something tells me there’s no a very big overlap between those people and the people who are gonna be buying Tears of the Kingdom.

Ive never played it but my nieces and nephews love it and i love watching them play it. Im very excited to buy it and bring over a pizzas and a bunch of snacks and just soak up the joy on their faces!

With the Nintendo Switch having already been the main console for 6 years with AMAZING SALES, I heavily doubt that they’re gonna introduce a new console any time soon.

I'd argue the Nintendo resurgence from Mario Movie and Tears of Kingdom will benefit Pikmin 4 sales. Both releases of Pikmin 3 launched only weeks before next-gen consoles. I just wish we could get another Pikmin animation. Fun fact: Pikmin Occupational Hazards will soon have more trailer views than Breath of Wild.

I don't think 2 months is *that* close. Most people who pay attention to Nintendo's marketing will have finished Tears by then. Also, this is pure speculation, but if we get a Switch 2 in the next 18 months, games releasing in the leadup to it are probably made with the Switch 2 in mind, to support better graphics/performance when played on the new console. A purported leak from a few months back that got things right about an upcoming Pokemon game said that they were working on a performance patch for the Switch 2 for the most recent Pokemon; assuming that's true I think it's safe to assume other games released recently will get similar patches. And so, a year or so from now we may actually see a second set of marketing for Pikmin 4 to show off the improvements on the Switch 2 (although obviously larger games would get a larger focus).

I'm trying to figure out if the target audience between Zelda and Pikmin are different. But as far as I feel, there is a very large overlap between the player base for Zelda and Pikmin, at least it should be. Perhaps some parents are more happy to let their children play Pikmin rather than Zelda, I know my parents would have when I was younger. Pikmin is undoubtedly more cheerful in its tone, with fewer overtly dark themes. ( But the more you think about it Pikmin is pretty dark too 😅)

Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the best selling game in the series for obvious reasons, but I think one often overlooked aspect of that is that it released during the pandemic, specifically towards the end of 2020. Correct me if I’m wrong but new releases around that time were… few and far between. Pikmin 4 doesn’t have that novelty, so I’m very worried… If Nintendo REALLY starts advertising Pikmin 4 like crazy, which it kinda seems like they might do considering the sudden huge surge of Pikmin representation in stuff, I think it could make enough of a name for itself to do well. Not to mention the fact that Pikmin 4 has been such a meme for so long. People will hopefully see advertisements for it, and it’ll really catch their eye because “No way! They’re finally releasing it?”

In my opinion, if pikmin 4 flops, this is the last pikmin game. If I was nintendo, I would just abandon it and never speak of it again if it flopped. Totk isn't gonna help. But in all reality, who knows

Is there any sign of a new Nintendo console coming? I kinda assumed they were just like "the Switch is doing numbers and the technology isn't really advancing at the rate it used to, so why do we need a new console?" It feels like Nintendo have accepted being a console generation behind because they know that they're no longer really competing with Sony and Microsoft in terms of audience - a person who wants a Nintendo console isn't going to buy a PS5 or whatever the hell the current Xbox is, they promise a fundamentally different experience.

Personally don't think this will be the end based on a few things -Bloom probably sparked Nintendo seeing it is absolutely a franchise worth keeping (given Bloom while not Go levels if sales us still popular) -Given Pikmin 3 Dx got the highest sales of the series this far and had to fight that Spin off Zelda title and still hit so I think it'll still hit which will show Nintendo it's worth keeping

Pikmin 4 will do well. I believe Zelda will make MORE hype for Pikmin. People will be playing their Switches, paying attention to Nintendo, and just be hungry for more Nintendo anything after Zelda. People will be talking about TotK for the rest of the year and beyond, but I believe Pikmin will carve its own niche from word of mouth, streamers etc. Especially if it gets another chance at the spotlight in a June Direct. I don't think Pikmin 4 will sell 20 million copies or even 10 mil, but I am going to say it will be the best selling Pikmin game. Whether it reaches Nintendo's sales targets is up to them

Considering how many people saw the Pikmin 4 trailer since it was chosen as the big opener for the February Nintendo Direct, I have hope that a lot of people have their eyes on Pikmin 4. I just hope Nintendo is smart enough to plan Pikmin 5 for the next console so that it doesn't start development on the Switch and get delayed because they have to move development to the new console. Surely that won't happen again though... right?😅

Dude your not worrying about nothing. I think about that all the time. The thought of a new console being revealed before pikmin 4 is out is very much something that could happen. But here’s one thing pikmin 4 has over all the pikmin games before it… the internet. Sure the internet existed when the others were out, but this internet saturation in our culture is fairly new, like within the last decade. People like you are talking about this game on line. People with a bigger fallowing are too, such as Arlo. Nintendo in the past hasn’t known how to market pikmin but now the fans are doing it for them! I don't like the release date either but I wouldn't be too worried about it. look at animal crossing, an incredibly niche series sold over 30 million copies, same for metroid dread becoming the best selling game of the franchise. every new game that releases on the switch becomes the best selling game of the franchise, I'm sure this will be the case with pikmin. now of course I wouldn't expect it to sell 30 million copies but neither does nintendo!

Don''t say pikmin 3 on the wiiu didn't do well. it is the 16th best-selling wii u game. 9.36% of wiiu owners onw pikmin 3, but only 1.81% of switch owners own pikmin 3 deluxe. obviously the switch is not discontinued yet and pikmin 3 deluxe was only a port instead of a new game; but pikmin 3 did as well as it could on wii u in my opinion and the numbers only look low because the wii u was a flop in itself
