That black raptor could really get off the line, whoever did the tuning did a good job.

Seeing Roman in that 1st gen raptor brought me back to the old days

I was honestly hoping for more from the 1st gen raptor. Either someone lied about the power rating or its tired at 200k+ miles. Ram did a great job with the TRX being able to fend off tuned trucks with relative ease, kudos.

Here is the story behind the 2012 Red Raptor in the video. We bought the truck just a few months ago as a company work truck and toy for us. We build custom vans and overland vehicles. A friend stopped by with a supercharged Gen1 Raptor and I decided we needed one to play with. Mostly it’s a parts runner for the company right now. We have many fun build plans for the truck ahead.....just not there yet. Some of those include new fenders, bedsides and graphics, so there has been no reason to waste effort polishing the old paint ;-) It’s a Roush truck that would have been rated at 590chp stock. At sea level where the truck was purchased it was definitely all of that. When it arrived in Colorado it lost so much HP at elevation it seems tame. We contacted JDM Engineering and installed their “700hp kit”. Which is where the numbers came from. What you don’t see in the video is the discussion about how it isn’t performing up to those claims yet. We have been logging data and exchanging tunes with JDM for a couple of weeks now. The truck has been pulling timing and we haven’t sorted out exactly why yet.....so yes, it’s down on power right now. The latest tune installed after the filming is better, but not sure it’s there yet. The 37s definitely took a bunch of punch out of the truck over the stock size tires. But actually tamed the truck to make it a better daily. Geiser front springs and mid perch if anyone is curious. It’s heavy compared to the other trucks present. The topper is heavy!!!, Bedlined, bed rug, cargo dividers, kid seat, rack, lights, etc. It’s focus is more overland work rig than drag racer. Front end has a bind in it that we still have to sort. We might just wait until we do the gears and do it all at once. TFL invited us the day before!! No time to strip it down and finish sorting it out......just enough time to clear some stuff off the schedule and go play!!! The 8-10 speed gearboxes are no joke. Those trucks bang through the gears much faster......now I’m thinking we need to figure out a 10R80 swap for the first Gen Raptors!!.....anyone? It was a fun day of play. Glad to be there. Performed as I expected for the moment.

All nice trucks I'd drive any of them but there's no 700hp in that 1st gen.

It’s fun to see each generation competing and now the “TRX” the Raptor has definitely sparked innovation in the truck market. keep up the good work guys ! PS I’m still in love with my GEN 1☝️

People love to hate the 3.5 in the Raptor but I think it suits the truck very well. I even like the sound since it reminds me of a trophy truck.

For the 2012 Raptor to have over 200K miles and assuming that it got its supercharger early in its life (*and hasn’t been completely rebuilt recently), I’d say a very large herd of its 700 horses left the barn by now. But I’m not looking at it negatively because I bet who ever spent the $$$ and drove it had a ton of fun over all those many miles.

That 3.5L tuned Raptor was nuts. Amazing how much power you can get out of those engines. Even at stock, it beat the 1st gen V8 Raptor with a supercharger. That is technology for you. Not mention the 2nd gen Raptor being considerably lighter.

I gotta say though the 6.2l raptors owner has kept that truck clean and added a roush supercharger. Awesome truck.

I had a 2014 Roush supercharged Raptor, and a 2017 Roush supercharged F-150 with a JDM tune, and I currently own a 2020 Raptor with after market intake, exhaust and a JDM tune. The 2017 is the quickest. With a few more tweaks the 2020 will be right up there with the others. JDM knows what they are doing! And so does Jack Roush!

That RAM looks, sounds, and performs incredibly. Unreal.

So many dogging the first generation. That was a great truck! Also it sounds awesome! However, with 200k plus miles, I am not surprised how slow it was. The truck is heavy, it's rolling on big tires and it has a 6 speed. It's probably geared more for low end torque and work, not speed. It's a work truck made to go off road and turn its wheels in the mud and ruts. Exactly what it was meant to do. The TRX is built not only for speed, but to go off road andturn its wheels in the mud and ruts. It's really a bad comparison. Either way, I would take both trucks since they will do what I need them to. Take me to that hard to get to fishing hole or hunting spot while towing a trailer or packing my gear. Both good trucks.

The 4 wheel drive wheel hop on that 2018 😳😳 the power that truck makes out of the hole must be ridiculous!! Put factory 35s back on and it would be a rocket! Nobody can deny that a simple tune, and intake and exhaust on a eco-boost motor turns them into a monster!

If only you guys had some stock Raptor wheels and tires to bolt on.... oh wait!

Shows the difference and something to consider between super vs turbo charging at altitude. Turbo are more efficient at altitude because they can spin faster, the supercharger is locked out to a specific speed range.

That's impressive. Remember when a stock 2nd gen Raptor was like the fastest truck you could get? Crazy to see how far we've come in just a few years.

i really enjoy the run what you brung series. I thought that supercharged 6.2 would have put up a better fight. But that tuned Ecoboost held its own very impressed. It just goes to show that Ram really did there homework on the TRX.

Hey guys this was one of the best videos of all the years you’ve been making videos it was totally awesome I’m so surprised that you can purchase a stock raptor put a tune on it and it will out run a TRX I know that one did not with 37 inch tires but let’s face it if it had stock wheels and tires it would’ve beat the TRX wow and I mean wow that’s impressive so can you imagine what the new raptor will do with the 5.2 supercharged engine it’s going to be ridiculous

The first gen raptor is still my favorite. I would still choose it over the new gen turbos or trx. I don't care about speed in a truck. It's a truck.

not gonna lie, first gen raptors are extremely sloppy, the engine is decent, but it's heavier and supercharger systems on the gen 1 never were good.

I am usually biased against dodge truck of any trim. But you guys are sure opening my eyes and broadening my horizons. I find myself rooting for the TRX anymore. Love how that truck eats the EcoBoost raptor for breakfast and lunch! Lol. Love the content guys, can't wait for next week

This was awesome. Really surprised how close that Raptor made this race. I think 35s on the tuned Raptor would have taken it. That's barely 6k in mods in the Raptor.

I’ve been saying for ages to try a tuned Gen 2... Thank you! I have a similar setup on my 19 but without E30 and it’s Savage 👍 Also, upgraded Icon leaf springs make the truck put down power far better than stock setup. No more skipping

Whoa that was nuts. That 3rd raptor should have been much faster, it had a ton more power and super charge but I guess after 200k there's no making up for that milage.

Have to do all this extra tuning and stuff to even compete. Trx put at a disadvantage right off the bat but prevails anyway.

I'm a RAM guy but in my opinion the Raptor still looks the best, the most baja and the meanest. I think the 5th gens already looked very 'spophisticated' for a truck, but they should've made the TRX look much more beefy and macho imo. The only thing missing in the Raptor is the sound. I would've even preferred a slower, naturally aspirated V8 just for the awesome sound and the fact that it's a truck: it doesn't need to go insanely fast. Awesome video!! Can't wait for more.

Pretty impressed with the Raptor, given it's stated power output. Turbos probably help a bit more to mitigate the air density deficit at elevation as they can spin up independent of rpm like the supercharger. Would be cool to see how they run at sea level against one another.

I had a Roush supercharged ‘14 Raptor. 590hp. I thought it was bad at 11.4 MPG. Nice truck, but the TRX is nicer. But that single digit MPG is making me reconsider...

I want a run between the "fake" rear camper, and the one with a REAL camper!! Done! 1st Gen with options, was about 0.5 seconds slower. But, It probably weighed 1000lbs more!! If I am going OVERLAND, for 500 miles, I'll take the 1st Gen with a hard-top camper. I know your 1st Gen on here has a supercharger and extras, but I would still take the standard Ford V8. I'd rather deal with a single V8 than 2 turbos 500 miles out in the desert.
