Can We Beat Kirby Air Ride ONLY Using The Compact Star? 

Fun fact: The Compact Star is the only Star that has a base DEF of 0. Since DEF patches are a multiplier, it means that no matter how many you pick up, your DEF will always be 0. This is why Compact Star gets 1-shot so frequently. HP patches are in essence the only way to make it any more durable!

The fact that calling City Trial a “Battle Royale” is actually an apt description back in the early 2000’s is both incredible and hilarious

I actually did most of my playing as Compact Star as it had the most sense of control compared to the other machines as they tend to drag on the ground a lot when trying to come to a stop to turn around, and Swerve Star gets very tricky to use if you grab a lot of Turn badges. Most of these challenges were not difficult at all (I actually think the AI has no idea how to do High Jump, they might treat it as Air Glider instead), but the racing ones were going to be tricky, and Destruction Derby and King Dedede. Gordos are the best for Destruction Derby, yeah, but I believe victory also would have been achieved had the Stadium been course 5. That one has a lot of Offense and Defense drops plus the weapon that keeps your machine spinning for a while. I remember getting 32 kills at one point playing it from Stadium mode. So, I was not worried about Destruction Derby. What I WAS thinking might not have been possible was King Dedede. He's much easier to defeat in Stadium mode by yourself (no AI). I remember using a Bomb and then Needle to defeat him in under ten seconds. The problem with the main mode version is that King Dedede himself also gets boosts depending on everyone's stats, so he can be really fast, really strong, AND really tanky. That win was amazing to see. Regarding the AI getting the Legendary Machines, I hadn't seen a level 9 CPU do it, but I recalled a level 6 or 7 CPU at one point actually collected three pieces in one of my games. I think the event was Destruction Derby, which the Dragoon is not very good at, so it did not work out well for the CPU (if I remember correctly).

Spiky Ball Meta only works if you're in an enclosed space. The beach isn't one of those places. Also, Wheelie Scooter is best vehicle. That doesn't have any bearing on this challenge, but I will swear by it every time.

only thing i can think of when i think of city trial is that one smash run i did where i played as sonic focused on nothing but speed upgrades and then got a foot race challenge lmao literally no one had a chance

Great vid and amazing challenge idea! I will DEVOUR what little content this game has on youtube. Kirby Air Ride has got to be THE most Gamecubey game ever. The rawness of it where some situations are just impossible. The fast physics that have oomph but zero delay . The awesome weird vibe. Incredible game. My favorite star is the Slick Star because it has a huge learning curve that rewards you tremendously once mastered. The way you do turns in races is super effective, being able to basically do sharp turns by going backward into them, so you're already facing the right direction when you release A to complete the turn. You can boost a lot to adjust yourself without really slowing down. Plus, nothing feels cooler than sliding around City Trial as a Slick Star pro!

Correction: Kirby Air Ride is the greatest game modes for the nintendo gamecube... because we all know no one actually cared about the actual game, only the city trial game mode lol

pro tip for slower rides, grab the wing/wheel powers they lock your speed which can help. also shadow star for life, kill your opponents so they never reach the finish line

slick star for life. easily one of my favorites to use that i see a lot of hate for. spam the charge button and you essentially have almost 0 speed loss turning not being dependent on drifting to turn and boost. hope to see more love for it one day. unrelated tip, checher knights glowing portion rails. you go fast on wheels for a reason there, its never explicitly said, but for any other star, hold charge on it and youll basically double your speed on those sections of the rails.

This was absolutely one of my favorite games back in the day. I probably played this every few days for years.

The Compact Star actually isn't half bad. There's a handful of machines I wouldn't switch off of it for without foreknowledge of what the event was. But there is another. A machine so accursed and vile that I genuinely doubt it can complete this challenge. The Formula Star. Its only niche is on Galaxy Nebula... which can't appear in City Trial. Most of the drag races are too short to gain speed, even.

I love this game! City trial is amazing for irl multiplayer with friends and siblings. But even the regular racing is pretty cool; I always liked the way it simplified racing game controls down to only the most essential aspects, making it super easy to learn, but fun to master.

doing this with every machine would be one way to fully identify each's strengths and weaknesses, especially for one such as me who played the game with my siblings religiously when i was younger and didnt really put much thought into what was good and bad. XD I was the one who came up with the bright idea to pick up weight downs and ignore weight ups in my group, not because i knew exactly what it did, but because i intuited that low weight would increase air time and increase top speed/acceleration. Good to know i was right about the flight bit, at least.

Man, this challenge was hell. And I loved it.

Not only have I never one Vs King Dedede, I've never been in a match where *anyone* won. I can't imagine trying to win it with the Compact Star.

It's me. I'm one of the 3 people who like top ride. And it has the best Soundtrack of the 3 modes. I so wish for a remaster or sequel of this game! The core concept has so much potencial and (if done right) could rival mario kart IMO Oh, and pro tip: go to the sky garden and fall down on the star, instead of going through the rings. That way the items don't spread out much. :)

Fun fact: The two people in the world who like Top Ride are youtubers. AntDude and Rebeltaxi have both reviewed Kirby Air Ride and said they prefer Top Ride over City Trial.

Oh also! If you wanted more niche Gamecube ideas you can always try doing challenge runs of rom hacks. Idk if it will be popular but I haven’t seen a whole lot of that content myself. Games like Pokemon XG, Pikmin hacks, Mario Sunshine Eclipse (when it comes out) are all good examples. There are also hella really good Super Monkey Ball hacks but idk how youd make a challenge run out of those.

One nice trick you can use with a base Compact Star is to glide at the Star Pole without going through the rings before them. If your movements are perfect, you can bust the pole while moving really slowly and all the powerups will basically fall on your head, saving you the time to go around and collect them all.

@4:00 If you didn't try ant Quick Spin the red guy, and simply passed him, you probably would have won. Yeah, hitting him like that did do a bit a damage and slowed him down a tad, but it also slowed you down just as much, partly because preforming a Quick Spin always slows you down a little bit.

You should do these with every vehicle as they most likely all have weaknesses (except my the legendaries so if that is the case you can add extra challenge by making you have to do all 7 wins in a row with those)
