A solo challenge with Beedrill? Surely this is going to be one of the most difficult I've ever done, right? Be sure to check me out on Twitch at - twitch.tv/jrose11
Coming soon is some Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl content. Even if you don't love the new games, I'm sure it'll be cool to see these challenges in a different Generation!
@@TheWrathAbove It's been a goal of mine to do runs of the newer games. I missed the opportunity with Sword/Shield and I don't wanna make that mistake again!
Right, but they haven't broken through the window have they? Therefore their abilities with bodyslamming are bad, like he said. They're _attempting_ it but failing.
That's basically every video. They're 50 minutes because the last 25 are running into the Elite 4 way too underlevelled only to realise some extra levels are needed to beat the game.
Unless you’re doing a challenge like this one there’s not even really any reason to use the badge boost glitch if you’re playing a normal play through of these games tbh. You have stat experience the AI doesn’t, on top of that the AI is notoriously bad.
I think porygon would be pretty easy. It’s got recover, psychic moves in a gen full of Poison types, ice beam/blizzard (in a gen full of flying and ground types), is a normal type (arguably the best type in gen I), gets two boosting moves by level up. It’s stat total is bad, but they’re well rounded. It’s biggest negative is it’s low speed. So it’d be interesting to see
@@johntarver5684 Oh way worse lol for sure. I just think it might be deceivingly easier than it might initially appear. But, sometimes things look good on paper but suck in practice.
Obviously so situational that it's useless, but Focus Energy actually COULD be useful for a set with Swords Dance to guarantee no crits and maximize damage.
Thats clever but I thing is better take the risk of two Crit hit per battle than waste a slot move and a turn Beedrill Crit chance: 14,65% *First case* Turn one: use focus energy Turn two: Crit hit Total Critical Hit Chance: 3,6625% *Second case* Turn one: Crit hit Turn two: Crit hit Total Critical Hit Chance≈ 0,021
@@EvidLekan while thats true it would change if you take a free setup pokemon into account, then it would just improve the odds for the rest of the battle
I always give my pokemon 2 attacking moves, and 2 buffing/debuffing moves. If an attacking move either causes a status effect, or works with a status effect move, i use that.
The fact that these videos never get old truly proves how turn based combat can be done well. There's so much depth and variety, granted there are things that are broken and stupid weak, but that dynamic really brings out mixtapes such as this double edge/mega drain, timing level up ditto, and using rage unironically. Ya love to see it
Beedrill is a really nice specialist in gen1 nuzlockes. Ita really good against the otherwise troublesome psychic mons, has good stats for the early game and a high crit rate. Its just really frail.
I love beedrill in gen 1 solely because they gain access to the only viable bug move in the game. Bug type was an offensive juggernaut in gen 1, hitting so many pokemon super effectively or doubly super effectively, but only one pokemon really gets to enjoy that. Shame it got nerfed offensively after it started getting more moves.
UN-fortunately, beedrill was simply not powerful enough to compete against other swords dance users such as scyther and kingler. Thus beedrill plummeted down to the lonely Never Used.
I honestly like bug and poison being super effective againt each other. It makes more sense to me at least. This video proofs that Sabrina can be beaten with bug types like it was always intended, not like many people said.
I was actually inspired by your vids and did this run a few months ago. Beedrill was my favourite pokemon back in the day, despite it being quickly overshadowed by other evolutions. Thanks for all the great content and for motivating me to dust off my old game boy and red cartridge.
I love this channel and being able to experience how broken gen 1 is without having to go through the pain of playing it. I often listen to the videos at work to make it more bearable. thanks for the nice content and keep it up :)
Is it even possible a Weedle run? I mean, i know that JRose tried it but couldn't beat Agatha. I think it's actually really impossible to do it, since her last pokemon is immune to struggle
@@anlev11 There's probably some odds where weedle can do it given the right ivs at the start and extremely good luck it would be interesting to see if someone has calculated it. Also where is the video of that run?
@@MrCharrrles someone said in a comment in a previous vidro that he made a Twitch stream, but didn't posted on yt About Weedle, the problem is that it can only learn poison sting as an attack. If we suppose a Lv 100 Weedle with perfect IVs, stat exp and luck, and also full PP ups, it would need to beat her before running out of PP, but that's hard since all her pokemons resists poison and 3 of them 4x resists, and Weedle is very weak. I think it may be really impossible, but we need to actually calculate that
@@anlev11It's possible, a German RU-vidr called Creepfan LP did it. Agatha took him thousands of attempts and the strategy boiled down to pray for critical hits.
Having mega drain was such a good compliment to beedrils skill set, imagine how much time u would save if it had mega drain or even absorb from the start so Brock wouldn’t have been such a brick wall
It's stupid, but honestly with badge boosting, there is a use for focus energy. Since crits ignore your badge boosts, using focus energy ensures you'll never crit so your badge boosts will always be good
When I saw your new video was out I realized two things: You have the cleanest looking thumbnails You are my favorite RU-vidr based on how excited I got! Keep up the great work! Glad to see you back at it!
I'm watching the first Lance battle and screaming at the screen that he should use mega drain on the dragonairs to get hp back since they can't actually fight you
For me, the timbre of your voice in this video sounds like youre feeling better, calmer. I love that. Im always so excited when a new Jrose video comes out! By far the best challenge run content. Best regards
Yay you're back for another one without the massive time in-between!! I'm so thankful. Your content is everything to me. I've had to rewatch everything twice. Thank you for this. It REALLY does help some of us more than you could imagine!
You didn't mention that twineedle is the only actual decent move that's super effective against psychic types in the entire game. So it's a nice benefit to beedrill.
Another awesome Solo Run for the books~ I was never one for Bug Pokemon when I was a kid, so it's cool to see the different strategies that are good to use with Beedrill. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Beedrill, my all time favorite Pokemon of all time (and yes, this was before he got the mega). I understand he's not great by any sense if the word, I can't help but love his design, his ferocity in the anime, and the conceptually cool move pool he receives. Seriously, look at it. X-scissor, Drill Run, Poison Jab, Fell Stinger: if we had a trainer in the anime who's primary pokemon was Beedrill (and they weren't treated as a joke), I believe there is a lot they could do with the design and style of his moves.
Honestly, I love coming back to some of the older videos on your channel, as there's just 1 thing that I miss with your newer ones - the intro, it brings me so much joy 😂
@@aepstein824 sorry for the delay, but it was actually really close! I finished at lvl 67 and another hour or so of game time, but I also did go grab hyper beam(super thankful for the no recharge on faints in gen 1 haha) and never used double edge. Also I spent some more time grinding in the early game, so I think between that and the game corner is where the time was different. I also had an easier time with the elite 4 but some of that might have been luck and some might have been just my lvl. But yeah pretty comparable for the most part. Lastly just shout out again to jrose. Love the videos, I never did solo runs like these until watching these videos. I even listen to them while running haha thanks for putting out such great content!
Hey man, I've been watching your videos since the start of this year and they have been awesome! I've recently started a new job and have to get up super early in the morning and your content is my favourite part of the day (along with a big cup of coffee haha). Just wanted to say thanks for giving me the motivation to get up early in the morning and start my day with a positive attitude. Also I'd like to shout out to Scott's thoughts for the exact same reason. Both of you guys are the best. All the best for the future
I was just thinking about how this run would be cool to see! Can't wait to see one of my favorite pokemon, vulpix, go against her eternal rival growlith
I LOVE these videos, it’s such a good idea. I thought I was weird for beating this game at least 20 times with different scenarios/giving myself huge disadvantages but there’s clearly others out there who think the way I do 🙂.
I got out of bed to watch this. Couldn't sleep anyway, too hyped for Pokémon tomorrow! Always happy to see an upload from the best badge booster in the north! Keep it up!
That's going to be the most boring run ever. Just level up to 100 and pray for critical hits. Weedle can't learn any moves and without items, there's literally no strategy.
When I saw a new jrose upload I gasped so hard I choked on my mac and cheese!!! I love these videos so much!! It really makes my entire week whenever a new one is uploaded!
Beedrill is actually fantastic in solo runs; in fact it was my favorite solo run I've done. Then again, I haven't watched the video yet. Edit: Ah, I think I see the issue. Beedrill is one of the best users of Hyper Beam in a solo run. I think that had you swapped out Double Edge for Hyper Beam before Lance you'd have been fine.
It brings me joy to hear you did bug only runs, as I did a gen 1 bug run way back in the day. If I remember, the gyms were a breeze but I got stuck on E4. Excited to see how you’ll tackle them…
Beedrill got slammed as a bad mon, but honestly, he was always my go to for dealing with psychic grass and poison. A lot of friends couldn't grasp how I was perfectly happy taking beedrill into the elite 4. He ain't super strong, but he's stronger than the credit he's given.
Well, Beedrill *is* a bad mon. It just is way better than anywhere else (aside from gen 6 with its Mega, arguably) in R/B's Kanto because of bug being super effective against poison, which turns so many neutral/NSE matchups into suddenly being super/doubly super effective. A fifth of the pokémon in gen 1 is part poison type, and Beedrill is the one Pokémon with a good STAB bug move. Thus, I'd absolutely understand anyone taking Beedrill in R/B PvE. if you pick Beedrill, might as well do it there to maximize its potential.
I was glitching Pokémon Yellow recently. I captured Lickitung using trainer fly glitch just to find out it was pretty pathetic - I wonder how it'll do in a single Pokémon run :) Do you plan to do such thing with this licking tongue?
I was just thinking about your videos earlier and whaddaya know, next time I'm on YT this pops up in my recommended! Only now though, almost a week after you uploaded it...I really enjoy watching these runs though, I hope you keep doing them!
I went the extra mile to give my beedrill hyper beam in one of my recent playthroughs. Don't regret it at all, the move was one of their few saving graces in the late game
such a cool build, couldnt believe it would even work let alone an awesome build the way all moves fit - favorite build I've seen so far. tho im now making mimoc a necessity for some non recover based pokemon
I know the whole point is "just" a beedrill, but would be interesting to know how much doing the evolution line would help. i.e. Having both poison sting and harden in the early game.
You actually can't get Harden by level up in the Gen 1 games unless you start with it as a Metapod or Kakuna. Except in Yellow, but that only happens with the Butterfree line.
Hey Jrose, I know these videos take a long time to make, but I just want you to know that I really enjoy your videos and I'm genuinely excited whenever you post a new video. Your videos are a perfect combination of nostalgia and empiricism. Thanks for doing what you do.
I'm really curious about how well Tauros might do. Edit: I took it upon myself to try Tauros. With a very unoptimized run, and not exactly minimum battles, I managed to beat the game at level 58, at 6 hours, 22 minutes.
Id be curious as well. Tauros is amazing in gen 1 OU obviously, and has a good movepool. Teach it body slam, earthquake, blizzard/ice beam and t bolt, and you’ve got great coverage
@@Machoke. That's exactly what I did. The main problem with Tauros, in a speedrun sense is getting past Brock early on, due to Tauros only knowing Tackle. Being in the slow level up group is also a downside. Jrose also has a Tauros run on the channel where he explained the downsides. He did manage a much better time than the one I got, but I am sure that if I re-did Tauros, I could get a similar time, or even better if I gave it my best. In short: You can't get through the game before Brock with minimum battles, but after that, you can pretty much do it.
@@Machoke. Indeed. Though, there are certain normal type pokemon that can get past him early on. Snorlax being one of them, due to starting with Headbutt, which is twice the power of Tackle, and he's got lots of HP and a high attack stat. Also, getting past Brock can also come down to RNG, if let's say his Geodude only use defense curl, it will be way more difficult for a Pokemon knowing only a single-turn move. Onix is much easier to deal with, unless you get unlucky with Bide, or many screeches
