Everyone's favourite evolutions are all very good, but can Jolteon's speed help it speed through the Indigo league? Twitch - twitch.tv/Jrose11 Twitter - @TheJrose11 Second Channel - / @jrose122
The paralyzed Dragonite was outspeeding you cause of a glitch (yes, incredible): if a paralyzed Pokemon uses Agility, the game will first reset his speed, and then apply the speed boost. This works the same with burned pokemon using Swords Dance. I know, gen I being gen I.
@@villagemarauder Yeah, unfortunately Kakuna, Caterpie, Metapod and Magikarp can only learn normal type moves so it's literally impossible for them to defeat any of the ghost types. Weedle gets poison sting so Kakuna could work if he allows pre-evolved moves, but he generally doesn't.
Tentacruel is the one part poison type pokemon that is not used by a gym leader or elite 4.(And Beedrill, but Beedrill doesn't count). Even Venomoth and Golbat got a spot in somebody's team.
I have to wonder... can the Gen 1 AI beat Gen 1? The player would decide what moves to learn, what pokemon to catch, and where to go, but trainer battles would be controlled by the game's "good" AI.
I'd add one more trick: you could pick whether it used good AI or bad AI. Though the main problem would be the logistics of setting this up. AI against AI isn't easy to make happen. The way with the least amount of hacking would require two Game Boys, but even that would require hacking one of the games a lot to give the trainer the player's team from the other game, and the player the trainer's team from the other game. And then we have the problem that enemy Pokemon have infinite PP, while the player Pokemon doesn't. You'd probably need to fix that, likely by letting the player have infinite PP, as giving the AI PP would likely make it not work properly, as it was designed for infinite PP. It might thus be easier to just hack a single game to change how battles work. I mean, either way will need someone good with code to change things.
@@ZipplyZane I don't see why you can't just change the move set to make a ppless move unavailable to the ai. It knows how to pick from a move pool smaller than 4!
Fun fact: stat recalculations entirely undo stat changes due to status like paralysis and burn. So the dragonite outsped you basically because the game forgot he was paralyzed
@@bongosmcdongos4190 That's what happens when the coders have to rush to get things out the door. Probably part of why that Jr Trainer in Brock's gym is using ground mons despite it being the rock gym or why most rock mons in gen 1 are dual-typed with ground.
I'm pretty sure in Gen 1, Agility both nullifies the speed drop from paralysis and boosts your speed. That's why that dragonite was outspeeding even while paralyzed.
Yeah. That’s Gen 1 in a nutshell. And, the main reason why Dragonite uses Agility to nullify Paralysis in order to be faster and keep up the Wrap cycle.
I don't know how you're doing it.... This about the 4th upload in a row where I have just sat down, I've got some time on my hands to relax and BAM! "Uploaded 8 minutes ago" Thanks dude
@@SoraDonaldGoofy99 Personally I think because in Celadon there is a few other things that you do... Shopping, The entire Rocket Hideout, and not to mention her Gym is tucked away in a corner behind a HM move.
@@boonski But you need to beat her to get to Giovanni's gym and the Elite 4. Every time I do a run, I just get all the crap I want done out of the way ASAP. When I did my Butterfree run (not for RU-vid, just for fun), I went straight there just to get her badge out of the way. It's usually what I do unless I'm not sure I can win without grinding for exp.
Every other solo run "Let my try it again and see if I can win without a crit, don't want to win with luck" This solo run "C'mon crit, c'mon crit, c'mon crit"
I mean, as I watch these videos I also refer to "Rooval Twoval" and "Rorval Fourval", but at that point one has transcended "a cute gimmick" and is probably annoying people. ...I mean, I got a little annoyed at myself just now as I shared those stupid nicknames with the world.
You know, the one thing I wanna see is: Can you beat Pokemon Red/Blue with JUST an arcanine? At first people might think "PAH, Easy! Arcanine is one of the strongest non legendary pokemon in Gen 1, and one of the strongest Fire Pokemon even to this DAY! That will be a no brainer!" Except you realise that arcanine can NOT learn a single attack by Level up! It only has 4 Move from the get go: Ember, Leer, Roar and Take Down. And the only moves it can learn from TM's are: Toxic (Poison), Dragon Rage (Dragon), Dig (Ground), Reflect (Psycho, not even attack, but can be useful), Fire Blast (Fire) and 11 more Normal Type moves, of which only 8 are actual attacks, and the only noteworthy ones are Skull Bash, which is bad in Gen 1, Swift (kinda useful to hit targets in the air and in the ground), Body Slam (actually useful since it can paralyze enemys... except normal types in gen 1) and Double Edge. So I say an Arcanine Run would be pretty, pretty challenging actually =) Also a fire type with only 2 Fire Moves, and both are Special dispite Arcanine actually being more of a physical Powerhouse, since it's Special Stat is only 80, compared to his 110 Physical attack xD EDIT: I edited the last part. forgot that the special Stat of arcanine in Gen 1 is 80, not 100 xD'
Fucking impressed JRose at how fast you’re churning these out now with no drop in quality. Always enjoy your commentary and analysis, takes me back a decade.
Oh about Dragonite outspeeding even though it was paralyzed. Boosting your speed even by 1 stage in gen 1 gets rid of the speed loss of paralysis AND gives it the extra speed it would normally get.
Pokemon as a formula really is something special. The fact that a game this old, buggy, and rough around the edges mechanically is still fun to play to this day is evidence enough.
Transforming as a Ditto while paralysed also negates the speed loss of paralysis. To this day I have no idea if this was an intentional design decision or not😅
Yeah, I think Flareon will be the slowest, because it's key stat is attack and it only has 1 gym it's good against, but 3 that it's bad against. Vaporeon's obviously gonna be the fastest. Even though it's got 2 gyms it's not very good against, it's got 3 it's good against.
16:13 I just wanted to say that Psywave was SUPER rare since it does a random amount of fixed damage from 1 damage to 1.5 times the user's current level. Alakazam actually did close to Max damage at 61 with Psywave here(43 X 1.5 = 64.5 Pokemon rounds down 64 damage). I've never seen Psywave do this myself.
I would say Caterpie but its only attacks are Tackle and Struggle which are both normal and he would literally be stuck either at Pokemon Tower or Agatha
@@kevmasengale6903 I forget if during his Magikarp run if that was the end or if he found a way past the trainers in the tower. Cause I know he made it to the e4, forget if the challenge was over and he just moved past it to see if he could get further or if he legitimately made it past that somehow
As a sorta consistent fan of your content, I wanted to bring something up I rarely see elsewhere. It's a breath of fresh air watching you do these challenge runs since it feels so obvious that you're having fun with each and every one of them which is something I don't get to see often and it makes watching you a very pleasent experience. Thanks for the now dozens of hours of entertainment you've given me and many more to come
Ayy Jrose, really appreciate the effort you put on these. ESPECIALLY after hearing you on streams too, you really do dedicate a lot of time just to edit these videos. Like god damn, mad respect.
I predict that Flareon will be faster than Jolteon thanks to 130 base Attack letting him get past Brock quicker and -Dig for coverage giving him a better match up against later Rock types.- Edit: it can't learn that in Gen one turns out.
I would agree until the elite 4. Lorelei and Agatha would be trouble. No good moves to take out Ghost and especially Water since it does not get an electric attack. In some ways Flareon will do well against Lorelei due to Fire Blast being neutral but he will behind all of them in the Brock and Misty selection.
@@JamesSonOfBaboonzo Flareon can't learn dig in gen 1. And it's going to have an awful time with Misty right afterwards. And Giovanni. Then it won't have anything for Bruno, and Lorelei/Blastoise will be very scary. Not to mention it doesn't get a good fire move by level up until 54 or fire blast (post blaine)... Flareon gets to look pretty though!
I love how exciting your narration gets, keeps me metaphorically on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to how the rest of the eeveelutions go if you're willing
Love every time a new upload hits. Great content and excellent work. I’d struggle to sink that kinda time into Pokémon but I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thanks a bunch for the amazing content
I love your content, thank you for doing what you do. It's one of the few good things of 2020. Also, you should have some sort of indicator on the tier list for min battles, like a star next to the name or something.
You're easily my favorite channel on RU-vid right now so glad I found you. That said, on any of your videos in the "how fast can you beat x Pokémon game with x Pokémon?" Series, the videos always have the same answer: reallllly fuckin slowly lol
i've been stuck in hospital for the last 2 months and these videos are literally the best for when I'm sitting in bed just trying to pass the time and watch something cosy. thanks a ton, jrose. hope you never stop pumpin out the content xxx
For that Lance fight, the reason Dragonite outsped after Agility even though it's paralyzed is because boosting a stat undoes the loss from a status affliction. So for example, when paralyzed Dragonite used Agility, its speed returned to normal and THEN was doubled. Same thing works with Burn and Swords Dance. I'm honestly a little shocked you didn't know that, I feel like it's less obscure than the Badge Boost Glitch.
I was also surprised he didn't know not to use Pin Missile against anything it's not x4 strong against that resists Thunderbolt. On average, Thunderbolt always does more damage to neutral targets than a x2 Pin Missile unless it gets a crit or hits at least 3 times. And even then, it has to have incredibly low defense. It's basically only good against Exeggutor and Venusaur.
It’s super interesting to see that you’ve spawned a lot of ‘how fast can I beat Pokemon _____ with (insert super strong Pokémon here)’ and I love it! Keep up the work man, I’ll be here to watch every video you put out
About the “why does Koga have psychic users in his gym”, I think it’s because his gym is made of invisible barriers and, in canon, I guess you could say that is created by the psychic types.
To the ones not understanding how a paralysed dragonite outsped jolteon after 1 agility, even tho gen1 paralyse does a 1/4 speed modifier, it's simple : The same way as badge boosts triggers again after stat modifiers, stat-related shenanigans are fucked up in gen1. Speed boost from agility cancels COMPLETELY the speed drop from paralysis (the 1/4 chance of not attacking is still there tho) so dragonite there just had a clean x2 speed, thus outspeeding jolteon. For more info about all the stat-modifying glitches of gen1 (in fact, there is more about paralysis and burn), check on bulbapedia at the "generation 1 list of glitches", at the "Stat modification errors" part cheers and I love your content Jrose, everytime your videos are released is just a "alright, time to have a chill time for a bit". Thanks for your hard work, take care !
!!! Eevee getting the spotlight again! Of course this excites me, I'm the Eevee guy (literally)! Can't wait to see the other two, although I don't think Jolteon will be being beaten..
Koga's only a Poison Gym because gym's had to have types. What he's actually meant to do is teach the player about how powerful statuses can be, and he lists his specific ones. Sleep, poison, confusion. His modus operandi is stalling and a death by a thousand cuts. And then end with Explosion if he's backed into a corner. Of course the AI isn't quite up to snuff, and teaching the player types led to the much more easily parsed gimmick of having each trainer be a specific type. They do this even worse with the Elite Four. Lorelei has that Slowbro for Disable, and she's meant to freeze you. In practice she almost never does and she just hits with Water/Ice power. Agatha is the closest to keeping to this trend, with Confuse Ray, Glare and Hypnosis in her wheelhouse. I was sort of hoping with better AI the Gen 3 remakes would do better with it. They kind of do, until they mess up in the postgame and just make everyone monotype. In game trainers are more interesting when they diverge from their one type a little to focus more on an aspect of the game. I wish they did it more like that.
Funny thinking I have watched the Pokemon anime for years, kept up on several channels like this that do weird things with pokemon... Never played the game in my life cause I didn't own a Gameboy.
You could always download visualadvance emulator and some pokemon red/blue/gold/crystal roms. Takes like 5 minutes and winrar. Relive your never experienced childhood memories.
@@knuppel8875 Lol funny thing is video's like this kind of make Pokemon a joke. How easy it is to beat the entire game with one pokemon, no items etc really points out how easy these games were if you had a proper team. I always wondered why the difficulty level of pokemon games seemed so low.
Was really hoping for and excited to see this run as Jolteon was one of my favorite Pokémon from Gen 1 (and still is to this day) -- I remember as a kid thinking Jolteon's having Double Kick and Pin Missile and having great speed made it really good, which was especially true in Gen 1 for the crit chance. I thought Double Kick and Pin Missile would make an impact in the run, and it was cool to see they turned out to be the difference in the final battle. Love your content!!
