Hey guys, I just want to thank you all so much for the support, I didn't expect 100K in ~24 hours after taking such a long break! You all are amazing. This has been the worst year of my life, and I just needed to take a step back. Now I'm sure many of you are expecting to hear from me again in about 2 months, but, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :) Stay Tuned!
dude I think to be honest I speak for a number of your viewers that I think I'm actually curious how many of your strats will be serious innovations or breakthroughs simply because you're tackling a classic problem in gaming with fresh eyes fresh mind and fresh grit with the advantage of looking at all the other developments that others before you added. we're straight up excited and rooting for you to make breakthroughs in Pokemon Science. Although some of the legwork must be grindy as hell for you and up against some walls it might seem like there's not much new to add after 30 years, there's always that CHANCE, what if you actually broke serious record? there are millions of people who are fans of the Pokemon Franchise of course, but of those millions how many are plugging away at Gen 1 to this day? And of the Gen 1 players, how many are Speedrunners, or of the Speedrunners, how many are doing Gen 1 Challenges? Overall I think your Channel has the potential to seriously be part of Pokemon History. I can well believe that strats might already be maxed out for almost everything, but I watch because you're really great at making them very watchable and because I'm hoping to learn something I didn't know. It's also just a really good condensed primer to catch anyone up who's been out for a long time and wants to go back to the games. Last point is: of all the Great Pokemon Runners and Great Pokemon Scientists, how many of the rest of them are Great RU-vidrs too? Even if you're not the fastest I am just plain addicted to the layout you've got for making a Tier List for 150 entries. Good Luck with getting out your videos and finishing your series at the pace that makes sense to you. I like the Channel and I'm cool if you slow down to putting out fewer per year. The possibilities are endless for how much work you have if you were to expand to Gen 4 and beyond, so because of that obviously we all realize it will take a long time to finish Gen 1 and maybe 2 anyway. It seriously reminds me of the Marvel Cinematic Universe except you're doing a lot closer to 1:1 a movie for every hero by at least doing a movie for every Mon. Please don't feel overwhelmed by that comparison, I just think that you're as popular with your fans, that we really like the format and we really want more sequels and content and see where you take your channel and we really hope you get to make as much as possible. I could definitely see myself staying subscribed for 10 years. You're a great PokeTuber and during your absence I did start following Cimoooo's Progression Series in the YugiTubing Community, and I feel like the two main series you do are similar. Wishing for some kind of incredible crossover is the kind of thing that occupies the same space in my head as hoping for a DC/Marvel Cinematic Crossover. 99% likelihood you each just focus primarily on staying in the direction you've been doing before considering anything crazy like that. But man, I just want to say how much I like watching RU-vids about Pokemon and it does feel like a movie series, at least to me, so my expectations for how long you might need I was comparing it to how long I had to wait for Black Widow. You've got a really, really, really neat channel going on here where your main formula is so good, I always want to see more of that, and if you go off formula for something wild, that's headline news to me and a huge deal and I'd be excited to see that too. I am SO glad I Subscribed to you months ago so that I actually got the Notification when I Needed It! :D But yeah don't worry about how long it might take to make your next installments. I for one would wait twice as long and be excited for just having a basic normal episode be what you put up whenever you get back. Hitmonchan didn't sell this episode himself, you did that on your own! He's a godawful Pokemon, but he had a great Trainer and Narrator and he's become part of a larger world! "I'd like to talk to you about the JRose Initiative."
Game respects game. However, slightly more seriously I would like to thank both of you youtubers for literally days of entertainment. Its been a tough couple of years but your videos can still make me smile. Keep it up.
MDB! So great to see you here! I respect the efforts from the both of you. Jrose, as well as yourself have brought much enjoyment to me. I hope the best for you both!
As I understand the gen 1 AI, that's not because of the good flag, but because the AI in general just doesn't really get how its item use works. Though I do get what you mean.
Me: “Time for bed, work tomorrow.” - Jrose video goes live - Me: “An hour extra won’t hurt.” Welcome back! Never be sorry to take some time away! Just glad you’re back and okay! 😀
I never thought of the Badge Boost glitch as a glitch per se. Even if it wasn't intended to work that way, as a kid it made sense to me. Gym leaders tell you that badges increase attack/speed/etc but don't give you any details on HOW they do that. So whenever those stats would suddenly increase during battle if feels like a reward for your efforts.
Me too haha, I loved Hitmonchan because of the strong looking boxing sprite and i had no idea of stab boosts so I thought I have all types in attacks in one pokemon 🤣 until I tried using it and was mucho disappointed
Too be fair a person who knows how to punch knows that you get a lot of extra power if you rotate the fist as you throw the punch, jam the thumb in the eye as you do so and bam, horn drill
*_sees Hitmonchan_* This shouldn't be too bad, right? *_sees video length above 50 minutes_* Oh. Oh, no. *_remembers Agatha from the Bruno run_* OH NO.
Aloha. I thought this channel's comment-section/s, if any place, would have smarteristic and smarttastic people. So i wanted to ask your opinion of a Project of mine, trying to help youtube help itself - getting it to become less of what can only be described as 'Messy' without wanting to use hard swearing... P0rn, Racism, Sexism, Scam, Spam-Bots, P0rn-Spam-Bots and much more. Oh, and of course the new Kid in Town: The Covid-Denier/Mask-Hater. I used the reportbutton as it was originally intended; not as Cancel-Culture but to help. Just this week, i got 1 Covid-Denier-Channel (yes, the entire thing, not just 1 video) and 2 Open Racists (Users, not RU-vidrs) removed. And this feels good. No, its not a 'Wonder-Miracle-Solution!!', but who needs that? Do you need that? If so, ok, i dont have anything for you. Yet, i feel confident about this enough to ask: Wanna join the Fun? The helping? Both? Sorry for the long comment and sorry there is no Miracle-Hyper-Super-Solution, but hey, its costfree and totally-your-own-time-schedule, as well as just plain fun, so i hope such Package is good enough for you.
I agree with using a single agility to outspeed. But using it 2 additional times explicitly for just attack is definitely exploiting the glitch. In terms of opponents using leer or something, it's really just luck like anything else - a crit, a miss, etc.
Hitmonchan is a boxer, Machamp is a wrestler, bodybuilder, and general-purpose martial artist. Hitmonchan is meant to be better at punching because that's its primary thing. Of course, in Gen 1, Hitmonchan's movepool is so limited and so weakened by its crap Special that it's better off using Submission (a wrestling move) than any of its actual boxing moves.
If we were to count the Special twice as an offensive stat and a defensive stat, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee would actually end up with a lower base stat total than Machoke in Gen 1, which is just ridiculous to me
it makes sense when you realize that they made a fighting type pokemon based around punching with such low special when most punching moves are special since, y'know, that's pretty revealing about how much game design they used when designing their game
Dude, break is fine. Chill. We're here for jrose, not his burnt out twin. I'm more worried about how breaks affect your income, viewer retention, or anything else that keeps you afloat. I'm sure people would be willing to support you in other ways, given the chance.
@@MimonJesus67 Shockingly, the impact has been minimal. Obviously a dropoff, but not *nearly* as dramatic as it should have been. Speaks volumes of how dedicated you all are.
@@drakerose3789 Yeah, the trick with that particular fight is getting Hitmonchan's speed high enough to outspeed the lank shark, because there's no way he's gonna tank any of Garchomp's moves (except Crunch).
"Sorry for the Break!" Nah fam, you take all the breaks you need! You've got plenty of stuff for us to rewatch if you need a break, take care of yourself first and all that. Plus, whenever you release a video, it ends up at the top of my recommended, so the algorithm seems to like you even when you do go on a hiatus!
Squirtle really deserves a remake where you use Withdraw now that Badge Boost Glitch has become such a core part of these runs. It's current ranking is kind of unfair.
I've been watching other pokemon challenge runs in your absence and I must say, you do it the best. Nobody beats your quality and content when it comes to pokemon challenges. Welcome back and simultaneously, take the time you need!
@@theeorigin4651 yup you cannot get statused by moves of your type in gen 1. Meaning the beedrill and venomoth lines for instance are the only lines fully immune against poison status as beedrill has a bug attack that can poison and can poison poison types.
I love watching these to fall asleep to without any bad thoughts floating around in my head to keep me up. My new fear now is running out of videos to watch. Thanks for all you do, you can't imagine how much this helps me. (And yes, I do usually skip back to the point I last remember if I fell asleep)
The man is back!! So glad to see it. Hoping you're well, Jrose! Your first summer of these challenges, I listened to every video the day it came out as I walked my dog. Doing the same now. You've become a key part of my routine, good walks and some good videos. Thanks so much.
@@Ayporque And having an actual STAB move in double kick and high jump kick. Hitmonlee is maybe the second best fighting type (The best one is Poliwrath because of amnesia)
I think you should, in your own time of course, revisit some of these runs where you may be able to improve time and/or level with the strats you know after all of these runs. Not to overwrite the original times on the tier list, but mostly just for fun. Great videos, man. Keep up the great content!
I’m so happy to see you back on the Tube!! I really love these videos and I just can’t say enough how ecstatic I am that you’re back!! I definitely understand that we all need a break now and then, so a big welcome back and an even bigger thank you for returning!!!!
We appreciate all the grinding I know you working hard thank you for the content bro After 20 years of playing Pokémon you’ve made this as exciting when I first use to play it gotta give you your jroses now
I'm glad I found this channel again. A couple years ago I watched the magikarp run, top 10 annoying evolutions, and top 10 laziest shinies. Nostalgia is in running through my veins.
@@InfernosReaper he said on the video that thunder punch was intentional to help with gyarados also like other person said if a pokemon gonna need more than 7-8 hits to ko then just use the 30% accurate ohko move plus that was his first time reaching that far on the battle so he not knew what to do
@@RaphielShiraha64 He straight up said he accidentally gave up the wrong move to get Ice Punch. As for spamming moves with that low of an accuracy, that's straightup luck-based strategies and worse than double-team + accuracy lowering mess. Dude was off his game on this one.
Glad to see you’re back, I hope your break was a good one and with much rest. Still my fav solo Pokémon run channel but never hesitate to take rest for health
It does super high damage and has a chance to sleep a Pokemon but lowers defense drastically if it KO'S the Pokemon (because you'd lower your guard if you knocked out somebody as well)
Love your videos man! Get such a sense of nostalgia watching these. Keep doing what you do best bro, there definitely helping to keep me happy during these shite times
Welcome back! Omg I missed your videos. Dang, I don't like the Fighting type in general, but it was like.... unfairly bad in gen 1 lol. Idk why they made Hitmonchan so bad; it didn't deserve that. It really should have been one of the best Fighting types back then, but it just sucked. Luckily, it's much better now that they made the Punches physical.
My initial viewing of a Jrose video is always with my full attention, usually eating a snack or a meal, very much interested from beginning to end. After I watch them fully, I will use any previously viewed videos to help me fall sleep. Thanks for being intriguing enough to hold my attention, yet comforting enough to ease me into sleep.
Good to see you back in business here! Haven’t had much time to follow the streams lately so it’s nice to be able to watch this freely. Good luck on the platinum challenge if you haven’t beaten it already
You know ive been watching a lot of Scott'sThoughts versions of these and dont get me wrong, his videos are great and i love his work as well, but it feels good to be watching someone that actually knows what theyre doing again. Edit: "If i cant beat koga i can always go to blaine first." Welp, pack it up boys, i misspoke
Honestly, it's good you use the badge boost glitch. Imagine how many fights you'd have to reset because the enemy used leer or screech on you. The vids would end up becoming so less interesting if you enacted on that.
Sorry but this logic makes no sense. There's a difference between passively benefiting from a glitch you can't avoid, which is what you described, and actively abusing the glitch by making plays that only make sense if you're trying to trigger the glitch, which is what he's actually doing. Nobody wants him to reset runs if he accidentally bemefits from badge boost, but when he does stuff like spams agility when he already outspeeds everyone, fidgets with his xp so he doesn't level up while he has the glitch active, or mimics useless setup moves like harden just to get the glitch like he has done in previous videos, he loses the right to call his runs glitchless imo. If you get to select which glitches are ok to abuse, then any run whatsoever can be considered glitchless. Would you consider the crazy any% speedruns that use artificial code execution to beat the game in minutes "glitchless" if the runner made the excuse that if he wanted to press the buttons he did in that order, it would inevitably lead to glitches, so those glitches shouldn't count? No you wouldn't because that makes no sense, neither does the excuse Jrose presented in the video
@@exantiuse497 You can't just be arbitrary. The only fair way to ban it would be to ban all use of boosting moves, and that would just make more runs unbeatable. If you really have such a massive problem with it, do them yourself instead.. It's just that Gen 1 is so ridiculous. He'd technically have to reset every time his health goes red, or if the opponent gets 256'd. BTW, glitchless Pokemon speedruns also abuse badge boost as well as the Pokedoll Lavender Tower skip. So, if you want to compare to speedruns, he's actually being more restrictive than the actual speedrun.
@@TechHug Did you actually read what I wrote? I literally said benefiting from a glitch you can't help and actively invoking the glitch in order to benefit from it are two completely different things. And I wasn't talking about speedruns, I understand why they can't ban badge boost glitch in speedruns because they need to have strict and unambiguous rules. I was talking about Jrose's videos, where he sometimes specifically gets on a high horse about not using glitches, calling out speedrunners for using the Marowak pokedoll exploit because "he considers it a glitch", then spends half the run explaining how he abused the badge boost glitch to make the run easier. It's not the glitches that annoy me, I have no issues about people abusing glitches for speedruns/challenge runs. It's the hypocricy at irritates me
@@exantiuse497 It's a consistency thing. Basically, it's not reasonable to completely avoid getting benefits from the badge boost glitch, and any rules about what's considered "abusing" it would be arbitrary and result in arguments over what abuse is. The only consistent options are to either ban stat changing (which would make the runs both harder to complete and less interesting to watch due to grinding being the only way out of most situations), or to just completely allow it. That said, you do have a point, especially since the whole Pokedoll thing isn't really a glitch (if you think about it, everything in that situation is working as intended, with the only thing missed being the fact that Game Freak forgot to add a flag to prevent that from happening).
Man, Hitmonchan's lack of coverage really is so devastating. It certainly says something when your strategy for two of the final gauntlet is mimic hypnosis and pray.
It's got exceptionally amazing coverage: Normal, Fighting, Ice, Fire, Thunder... it's just that the one Fighting move it has access to is really bad, and it doesn't have the Special stat to support those elemental punch moves. So that coverage is mostly wasted.
