This Creative card isn’t the youngest in the series. No, the X-Fi Elite Pro is among the first Xfi’s that where released! And where the Music version, which covered in another review, was a stripped down version of the series and the Fatality more aimed at gamers. The Elite Pro was supposed to be the top of the line and aiming for the musciancs, audiophiles group! You can tell the Xfi is top of the line, because the SNR was 116 dB, while the rest have a SNR of 109 dB and that is because it used a better DAC. In this video I'll tell you all about this soundcard and the console that came with it.

Irda remote is a great thing to use your pc, even on youtube or your local music files to volume up or even go to next song. I miss remotes like in old cards. You stay on bed and just change song with one click. To bad new soundcards dont support app to change it manual by smartphone.

I had one of these sometime ago, with a working console and everything. I got it cheap from a local garage sale. The console was basically useless, unless you use it for recording musical instruments or digitizing videotapes and records. The card itself was good, but marred by a terrible driver package, typical of Creative. Its numbers looked impressive on paper, but in actual use, it sounded no better than my old Audigy ES and Audigy 4, which I'm certain was due to the driver. It sounded very flat without the Crystallizer and EQ, but once you turn them on, sound quality and fidelity go right out of the window. It seemed like it was designed specifically for gaming and certain types of music, and nothing else. I know many people like the X-Fi, but I'd rather use a card based on the VIA Envy24, like the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 and ESI/Audiotrak Prodigy 192. Their drivers are much better and less bloated, and if you wanted EQ or 3D audio for FPS games, you could just use a "wrapper" like FxSound that you can turn on and off anytime.

"but marred by a terrible driver package, typical of Creative." So true! And I'm one of those Xfi lovers. Mainly because I like a bit more flat sound. The Envy24 was also very good. I like the Prodigy 192. But I like every ESI card.

@@AntonsHardware What disappointed me was that Creative had good, clean drivers for their Live and Audigy series, but made a bloated mess for their superior X-Fi cards. Do we really need 3 separate modes for gaming, media, and content creation? Certainly not, but I guess they had to reallocate on-board resources for different tasks, so you lose something in every mode. Do you have the original Prodigy 192 with the red PCB? Were you able to get it to run in Win 10? I have it, but couldn't find any drivers that would work in Win 10, and the generic VIA drivers don't recognize it. The M-Audio Revolution 7.1 (same Envy24-HT chip) works perfectly, but not the 192.

Personally I cant tolerate the pretty flat sound of Sony Z7 headphone, without turning on Crystalizer/bass on the Blaster Z panel. Thanks for another interesting video!

You are welcome! Haha, So Crystalizer does have it's use, even today! Thanks for pointing that out to me.

I appreciate this review of Xfi. Creative was including great software too, like Cakewalk and Sound Forge, with their Sound Blaster Live series. You could also connect the card to an expansion dock for better access on the front of the computer. So, which one was better at 24bits, the Xfi series or the Live series? Or, which one Sounded better?

I hope you can try some e-mu stuff, i got the 1616m pcie and the older 1820, they basically both come from creative, so they use many of the same parts as the sound blaster audigy series, but they come with many improvements, especially when it come to dac/adc and support for pro features, and for those i am even maintaining os x/modern macOS open source drivers

I actually have the EMU 1212, ready for testing! It's been laying in a box for about 2 years now and I want to make a review about it. But I just cannot figure out how the software works and actually get some audio out of it. Windows 10 doesn't seem to agree with the card, even with modded drivers.

I’ve thought about getting some other sound cards but after scoring my 1st gen Evga Nu Audio for $50 I don’t think I will ever need a different card for my System. For on the go I have the Schitt Fulla E that I scored for $89 that is perfect for using with my Tablets for Cloud streaming. I also have a Mayflower Arc Mini I need to sell, after getting the Schitt to replace it (I didn’t realize the Arc didn’t have any voice communication features until it was in hand after buying it new lol)

I finally got a pair of the Hifimann HE4XX’s for $89.99 directly from hifiman (open box but pristine and $100 off). It’s my first ever experience with Planar Magnetics and I am blown away with just how comfortable and enjoyable they have been. I am strictly a gamer, so I can’t really give a music opinion on them but for both open world games like Cyberpunk 2077/Horizon zero dawn/God of war the amount of detail I can get from lower volumes is absolutely amazing. There also great for gunshots both directional/elevation PUBG/Warzone.

50$ for Evga is nothing. I got Creative g6 for 50$ used and still its a great card i dont feel i need to upgrade cause quality of sound is enough, of course evga is better. I tryed 2 other older creative usb card like xfi 5.1 and xfi hd usb but only g6 met my requirements.

It is! I forgot to mention that this is a PCI card and not a PCI-E card. So most people couldn't even use it today. But if you build a retro machine, this would be great! No, awesome!

I was talking to one of my friend who also interest in sound cards and we have a common ground that the sound card industry is boring and nothing new would come to excite us, so, I have a little question for you, what should sound card industry do to go further and become interesting again?
@AntonsHardware
@AntonsHardware Год назад
That is a truly good question. I mean truly good. The industry has become boring indeed. Let me think about this one for a while.

@@AntonsHardware to add comment from him "the hardware is stable for a while and starting to stuck, the market is now more aiming at plug and play and everyone turns to more wireless headsets"
@AntonsHardware

Your question has been on my mind the last couple of days and then I remembered I've already sort of answered it. I made a video about the Audeze Mobuis and this was what was in my script: "There is a trend where a lot of hifi audio manufacturers have moved into the gaming market. Companies like Teufel, JBL and Beyerdynamic have tried to take pieces of that market. Some have succeeded, but most just have failed. The move has thus always been problematic. They are good at creating speakers and headphones for the hifi market and think that the move isn’t difficult and gamers aren’t that demanding when it comes to audio quality. So they use their knowledge about great speakers and start out. But their choice of other components and functionalities is very poor and scrape together what is cheapest." So for the industry to become more interesting, I think they need to look at what the market wants. Create high quality audio equipment for the masses and not ask outrages prices for a quality headset. Beyerdynamic did just that with the MMX300. No frills, just qulity audio, but that is an exception. For the internal soundcard market: That will become an extinct component. Everything will become external and I cannot see anything interesting coming. One thing I see happening more and more is that everything is becoming account based. I'm currently writing the script for the Creative GC7 soundcard and that has SuperXfi. You need to create an account to used this. (And I refuse!). Razer does this. Steelseries does this. Others do this. And I find this extremely irritating. I paid for the product and want to use it to it's full potential. There is no advantage for me to use accounts and the only reason manufactures want this, is so they can monitor the usage for their own marketing goals. And I find this disturbing. I feel monitored with a 1984 undertone to it. Thankfully we have the GDPR in Europe, but that doesn't stop a lot of companies to do just that! I think (or rather I hope) that in the future a lot of people agree with me and companies will stop this nonsense.

Great video. I got a few internal X-Fi cards and recently want to give the card that came with the external console a test but i dont have the molex power cable. I just want to make sure that a floppy power cable will work and not blow anything up? I have plenty of floppy power cables but i want to make sure before i try. Thanks

You should be able to use a floppy connector to molex. I've used it the other way around loads of times. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex_connector

Fake 3D sounds good for gun shots only. Anything else (like ambient occlusion in tunnels) sounds like gaming NFSU2 or something on a Audiophile 24/96, a very bassy sound card.
