It's definitely not the worst bass to guitar conversion I've ever seen. In fact, it's one of the better ones I've seen. Not perfect, far from it but still pretty darn good. I'd rock.

Agreed. Putting a chrome-plated triangualr plate beneath the T-o-M bridge, using the old bass bridge screws, would have made it a tad more prettier. But I'm still impressed.

My Gretsch Baritone is at 29.75" scale, so it's not totally unheard of. Granted, it's a reissue of a Bass VI that they redesigned for baritone play, so...

The jazzmaster baritone squier did a few years back is a full 30in scale. I have one and modded the crap out of it and its a fun guitar, but can be a pain to play just by how the neck is out from the body.

This is pretty sweet. I almost did something similar with my Epiphone EB0. I fell out of love with the VI though. I think I might try and fit a full scale fender neck to it somehow.

As long as the new bridge has enough intonation adjustment it should be fine.

Looks like they got the angle. One conversion I did by putting the bridge on a block of wood (approximately the correct height) centered the saddles and moved it around until the intonation was super close. Then drilled straight through mounting holes to pilot the bushing holes into the body. It was scary but worked out. PS, the harmonica bridge I used had a lot wider range of travel on the saddles compared to a TOM, so that helped.

normally see these types of conversations with the 3 point gibson bridge, by switching out the bottom part and putting a wrap around on the existing tail piece.

The best part about that bass mod is that we seriously could use more examples of the Bass Six architecture. Too many people seem to deliberately confuse it with the baritone. A bass six is a bass six, and a baritone is a baritone. Strangely enough, I've long resisted indulging any interest in the V shape, even though a few players I admire have weilded it. Of all things that should spark that interest, it would have to be the passing of Leslie West - the first player I heard live to potentially damage my hearing with his amp settings. *And, the V wasn't even his primary axe!*

I did a acoustic guitar to bass conversion. Normal guitar scale, so regular tuning was a bit too low for it. A D G H tuning was fun to fool around with (E tuning without the low E.)

Short scale bass to baritone conversion is pretty simple. Danelectro short scale basses and baritones are the same neck and body with different bridges, nuts and number of tuning machines. I converted a Squier Bronco bass (bought used for $80) into a baritone (tuned A-A). The biggest challenge was filling in the bass tuning machine holes with dowels and drilling for guitar machines. Other than that all I had to do was swap the bridge and nut. A great project you can do for under $150 with some luck in finding a used Bronco bass

The Bass VI is really an Electrified Bajo Sexto w/ an Extended Scale Length. Gibson made an SG Bass VI:reverb.com/price-guide/guide/497-gibson-eb-6-1964-cherry & everyone from Duane Eddy, to John Lennon, to a number of Musicians have used it.

I would be surprised if the intonation was anywhere near correct. If this was a first attempt at this mod I'd make a floating bridge first to get in the ballpark before I installed permanent studs.

I had a 30” scale Danelectro Baritone. It had the twang from hell. Sold it after I discovered the Tom Anderson Baritom. Like going from a Fiat to a Mercedes. At 28 5/8” it has the perfect balance of playability and clear piano-like tone.

If you put a Kahler Wammy on it you could cover the the two set screw holes in the back. Back off the lead pickup to cover the last one and it would look stock.

As a builder I'd say that's a pretty good setup there 👍 Usually the tail goes about 1-2" from the bridge and same goes for the bridge hummbucker. Working out were to put pickups is actually quite interesting... (I won't tell you how to do it) But if you know the scale length then..

This is kool. I have done it but in reverse. I took Gibson Maestro les paul Jr. And made into 24.75 scale Bass. I have made 4 this way. First one way back in 1979. Took a Lark Gibson Headstock lawsuit les paul copy in cherry and made into A Bass. I wanted a Gibson Les Paul Triumph but was way costly. So made my own style. Music store thought I was nuts but helped me with parts. It got stolen. So 2019 found same looking Lark. Cherry les paul copy and made..."Dixie Deuce". Deuce because second one and double pickups. 1979 was called "Rebel" because 6 string being a bass thus a rebel. The other two are Gibson Maestro les paul Jr. Made two. One white "Dixie Rebel". The blue other "Dixie BluBelly". My "Dixie Guitars". 24.75 scale. Red, White, and Blue. Stay in tune great. Intonation is good. Sound great. They say famous Bass player also have 24.75 basses but have never seen any. I have made 4. So this 6 string out of a bass is kool idea just reverse of my idea. Thumbs up to that 6 string player. Mine have like 500.00 investment each with hard shell cases and way better parts then in 1979. So 1000.00 in to that well was a good Bass.

Lots of epiphone EBO conversions kicking around the world. My bass is an LTD EC-54 the Eclipse single cut.. Very familiar idea to that bass starting point. I'm more of a $250 guitar guy.

I have been thinking about doing this. However I want to purchase a capo and set it on the third fret so that the scale length is closest to normal as well as the distance between the first few frets. I can come close to matching the neck of a Start/Tele with my short scale Hofner Beatle bass and a capo~I hope. I have yet to purchase a capo though so the project is on a back burner for now. I also have an Ibanez short scale bass and I may use the capo on it as well and install 4 guitar strings the E, A, D and G.

Well Trogly, you get plenty of opportunities to compare Gibson's sister brand to their overlord counterparts, say a epiphone les Paul special versus the Gibson one. You could get both a Dean v and a Washburn v and see how they spec out each price point in their business model. See how it compares to gibsons way of doing it.

But I'm still impressed. White pristine Flying -V - Yummy as... Blueberryburst LP - Truly scrurmptious! Dean Flying-V - Ewww.... Yuk.... Can never get used that horrible inverse headstock. The fitting of that Kahler vibrato was probably its only saving grace.

Im intrigued. I'm just wondering if it could actually be played along with another instrument thats set up to proper scale. I think you should investigate. I've seen attempts with neck swaps where the scale was different. I've never seen it actually work where it was playable with other instruments.

the average bass is 34" scale. 30 " is a 'short scale' bass.

As a bass player my question is why would you want to ruin a perfectly good bass? Guitars outnumber basses by at least 10 to 1, seems like an absurd endeavor to me. Color me jaded.
