Great Video. I was comparing and watching so many different reviews, I found yours is the best. I had Canon t4i then t6s. Now Canon 6d. I love 6d result, specially works so well in low light and big time difference in colors and sharpness. I love Canon 6D. I guess, if you ever buy Full Frame, you will never go back to crop sensor. Pictures are wider and sharper, vivid & crisp. I wanted to thank you once again to make such great video, helping people like me to pick right body.

I just upgraded to a full frame Sony a7ii, maybe I will upgrade the 70d to a 7d markii someday since theres always sales and rebates on them.

T&C - Yet another fantastic (and ever improving) video! Thanks for all of your awesome work! Can't say enough great stuff about you! BTW, the Sony a6300 was slow to focus in low light in your example because you used the especially cheap & slowest focusing lens for it, the SEL50F18. It's insanely sharp (per DXOMark and my own experience) and fantastic in every way except one: focusing speed! I got mine used but mint for around $200 on E-Bay. Try the SEL35F18 for faster focus.

Great video guys! You really helped me determine which camera of all these to buy (the 80d). The 6d mark ii and 5d mark iv won't be coming out till the end of 2016 or early 2017, and the 7d mark ii doesn't offer full hd @ 60fps. Either way I can't wait that long to upgrade.

Hello Tony and thank you for great vids! I have been trying to find a comparison between 7D (Mk I) and 80D but it's useless. What is your experiences between those two when it comes to autofocus and to change settings/work with in the field? I am planing to buy a new camera and the 80D seems like a very good candidate, especially since I plan to do more vids but I don't want to have worse autofocus than I have now. So is the 7D Mk II better choice then or does the 80D hold up against 7D? :) I would love to have an FF as well, but they are either to expensive or lack some features like dual pixel af. And I bet that the new 5D will be very expensive as well. Thanks in advance!

Hi Tony, thanks for the informative video. I am looking at Canon EOS 80D, my primary focus will be taking pictures in sports ( outdoors and indoors ) like my daughters playing soccer , I am looking at a bundle that includes 18-140VR kit lens, is that a good choice? or what other lense would you recommend?

I watched a lot of review and comparison videos of the 80d and 6d mkii but this is the first one that covered the autofocus system extensively as well as low light capability. I think you helped me decide on the 80d (love the touchscreen focusing) to supplement or replace my 600d (Rebel T3i?) that just doesn't cut it anymore in low light situations. The focusing system just throws itself out of the window at very low evening light and "handshake secure" 1/60th. Can't compensate with higher ISOs because I think anything above 400/800 ISO looks very noisy even with a 50mm/f1.8 Thank you!

If only the a6300 had a fully articulating touch screen. : ( It would be the perfect camera for me. The 80D lacks 4k video but the auto focus is amazing. Maybe the 90D will be the prefect camera with 4k video. Or maybe the Gh5 will have amazing auto focus and be the camera to beat. For now I have a Panasonic G7 and love it.

I bought a D5500 at the beginning of the summer for a trip back to Hawaii (partly based on your review!), Back in the Darkroom days I was a Canon buff, but have since owned a D200 so I went with the D5500. My pics are ok. I bought this for both vlogging, kids, and landscape but haven't had the performance for either pics or Video I was hoping. So in short, should I go with a Prime and Shure hotshoe mic to fix the D5500 issues for video/focusing or do I just need to offload the D5500 on eBay and go for something higher end like the D80? I've loved how small the D5500 is but don't want to sacrifice too much for that. Thanks again, you both make a great team!

I've been a huge fan of your channel. Currently am in a fix, I want to upgrade form a 600d, and I cannot choose between 80d (which costs 71k in my country) and 6d (which costs way more at 91k), both body only. I mainly shoot portraits. Should I 20k more for a old model with older autofocus just for the full frame sensor? Or should I got with the cheaper newer 80d with superior af as well? Or should I altogether wait for the 6d mark ii? Please help me decide. Thank you

Thanks for the comparison! Honestly, I am still conflicted though. If I have hopes of shooting professional quality photos and videos, which should I choose, 80D or 7DMII? I plan on using Sigma's 18-35mm and 50-100mm both f/1.8. I will be primarily using the camera for indoor sports, most close range, and video(to make gym promo videos). I hope to get good enough with my photos and videos to sell packages for people building websites. These cameras are at the top of my budget, which should I choose.....

Tony, GREAT review, very thorough. Question: how is it that the 80D was far superior to the a6300 when focusing in low light for stills, but the results were reversed in video?

Was thinking of upgrading my Canon 760D to the 80D for my astrophotography videos. I'm after faster video frame rate @ 1080p and keen on slow-mo speed ramps. 60fps @ 1080p vs 24fps @ 1080p means I can ramp down. I'm not sure if its worth it. I can get 50fps on the 760D but it's 720p. The Sony seems nice but the lack of articulating screen is a right deal breaker. I might rent an 80D and see if it really makes a difference. Thanks for the review

You mentioned the 6D a couple of times in the video as one of the full frame alternatives to APS-C. I've been thinking about making that jump from the 70D as I want more dynamic range for low light photography. But I hesitate because of the age of the 6D. Should I just go ahead and pull the trigger and worry about upgrading whenever the 6D replacement comes out? I rented a 6D last year and liked it.

Hey Tony. I am a huge fan of yours. Could you please answer a question for me? You say at the 6:00 minute mark of this video that the 80D does not have single point auto focus. I have seen other reviews on this camera that show the single point auto focus in use. I almost always use single point so I can focus on the eye of the wildlife I shoot. That is a deal breaker for me if the 80D does not have it. Did they release a new version or offer a firmware update that added this feature? Thank you sure for your content.

Great video as usual. I am getting into video. Focusing is my biggest concern as this is by far the skill set I need to develop. Do you (or anyone) know if the 80d will focus well with the 85mm f1.2Lii lens? For that matter, also with the 70-200 f2.8L is original?

Hey tony,I was in a full mood to buy the 80d but found that the nikon 610d and canon 6d have nearly the same price and probably slight better image quality. Considering only the image quality for wedding, group portraits and landscapes as well as sports which one do you prefer a low full frame or a high end aps-c?? ps: i just went through ur book photography guide and u mentioned d610 as the budget camera...and also i will be buying a new one as not many used ones are found in amazon in our country...... plz guide me ;)

Nice summary, I have always admired the 70D and even more so the 80D. I consider them to be the ultimate Daddy cameras for covering the family documentation on all fronts very well. But already being in the Nikon system I am glad my D7200 is still the king of crops for IQ that you didn't show in comparisons. I love mine more than ever now that I own a Sigma 18-35 I can see all the 24MP goodness.

Tony you have shown one sample image showing a comparison between image taken from Canon 80d and Canon 6d showing marked difference in clarity in Canon 6d as Full frames have better low light performance. But please tell whether there is marked difference in image quality between Canon 80d and Canon 6d even when there is adequate light..

I like your videos especially when Chelsea joins for balanced reviews (haha). I’ve an 80d and use ef 70-200 (+1.4extender occasionally) for long shots and ef 100-400 for air shows. So, all the ef range of Canon ef glass is really open to apc cameras, not just ef-s lenses. And my ef-s 17-55 f 2.8 for dimly lit museums and ef-s 15-85 for street photography fit their purpose perfectly.

Hi Guys...love the channel...you hit the sweet spot of excellent technical info plus good overviews for the non-expert. I have a specific question about Canon 80D....I returned the first one and now on a replacement which has same issue...when 4gb files which are shot continually and shot well within the 30min limit the audio does not play seamlessly between consecutive files....there is about a 1/10 sec gap at the end of each files so when files are in the editor Premiere Pro/Vegas Pro the video plays seamlessly but the gap creates and audible drop out. Have you come across this? Thanks, David

+stelakistha Pentax has promised to loan us the K-1, so hopefully we'll have a review of that around the end of April or beginning of May. Fuji doesn't reply to our emails, so we probably won't be able to review the X-Pro2.
