Canon EOS M & M2 LCD Replacement

@@spidiq8 Hey man, just want to let you know I completed the repair today. Was EASY, most difficult part is handling the ribbon cable carefully to prevent damage. Some points that I learned: 1) The replacement ribbon cable had an adhesive backing applied to it already, remove the white sticky tesa branded white backer and you do not need to use additional glue, do NOT remove the white backing that faces the buttons if present 2) the ribbon cable doesn't even need to be prebent, simply insert the end of the cable into the camera, and slowly watch and press the back housing on, it may require little to no coaxing to bend the ribbon cable in the proper two places, make sure it does not get crushed and damaged when mating 3) if you remove the dial/q button assembly as one, and carefully punched out the black pins in the back the minimum amount possible, no glue is necessary to put this back together either 4) fully functional camera again! thank you for the tutorial!!!!

I've done an LCD and rear button panel replacement on this same camera only.

Do you mean the catch that connects to the lugs on the side? If so, I suspect you'd need to order from canon directly as I've never seen another type like it.

Sakaloo7 It was either there or eBay, it's full function touch screen and indistinguishable from the original, even with the canon logo, I'll try to find the link later for you when I finish work.

@@VivekSingh-og2nf For the screen? Any link I'll have will be long expired, I filmed this year's ago but if you search eBay for EOS M screen you should get a few hits.

I can only show you what's in this video, I don't intend to unecessarily strip the camera again, they're not designed for that hence the need for replacing the ribbon for the buttons. You might be able to leave the lens attached but I'm unsure why you would?

I guess it's possible but I imagine the connections would have to be the same and I honestly have no clue if all touch screens have the same connectivity. A larger screen would of course mean higher battery drain. I'd like to make a swivel tilt screen for the M, I think that's the one missing thing.

@@spidiq8 well, I suppose there are some datasheets which contain data about that connections

@@dennypilot9856 Probably but I'm not very good with electronics unless it's straightforward plug and play or only has a few connections. I'd be interested to see if you can do it though.

But a dead LCD panel renders the camera useless anyway, what would you have to lose? The ribbon cable can also be replaced and I have a video covering that. 🙂

@@spidiq8 true! I just wanted to say that if you can somehow get around opening it then do it because cable breaks easily hahah

@@INSTINCT777 It does, sadly that's the nature of these ribbon cables. They don't like to bend too often. But if you have a blank LCD screen you have a pretty paperweight. You literally can't do anything except point and shoot and hope for the best.
