Canon EOS M50 User's Guide | How To Set Up Your New Camera (Tutorial) 

When you havent bought the camera yet but you're already watching the vid on how to operate it

If you have an EOS M50 this is going to help you get a good starting point with setting it up. This is how I set mine up and hope it helps you out.

Thx for the very informative video, Jared! I wanted to let you know, though, that you CAN use the shutter button for video start/stop if you have your top dial set to video mode. There's an additional option under "button fnc" that wasn't visible in Auto Mode. I was so happy to find this out that I thought I'd let others know about it. Thanks for the hard work on your video here, it helped me a lot.

Hey Jared, Your tutorial is just what I needed for better understanding of my brand new M50. The manual that comes with the camera sucks, plus I needed a magnifying glass to read it. Thanks for excellent Info.

That was pretty good. I think that you should have also mentioned/shown the following: 1. Done a run through setting up the 'phone app.. 2. It would be good for people to know that, instead of the 'phone app, there is a remote that can do most of what the app does - the BR-E1. 3. Showing how the Focus Peaking works would have taken a couple of seconds, so I would vote for that to be included if this phone is updated, and you review the update. 4. Cannot remember if you mentioned that the slow-motion (780p) mode is silent, but it is. 5. And the M50's stabilization is terrible, both 'regular' and digital (I love the camera, though). 6. Plugging a mic. in to the jack on the camera body can obscure part of the flip-screen (if turned toward the person in front of the camera), because of the positioning of the mic. jack. 7. You missed mentioning and showing audio levels, and that the audio levels are (stupidly) not visible on the flip screen when it is turned toward the person in front of the camera. Combined with the fact that there is no headphone socket, this means that the only way to monitor audio levels is when the screen is folded onto the back of the camera and is being looked at by someone behind the camera. 8. Has a timelapse function. 9. The RAW format is a special 'compressed' RAW (C-RAW). 10. In addition to the very few M-mount lenses, if used with an adapter (and the Meike is much cheaper and works exactly the same as Canon's own adapter), lenses from the following Canon series can be used EF, EF-M, E-FS, as well as quite a few third-party lenses.

Try to find Custom Functions: "Enable shutter without lens" Damn that was burried in there. Under the wrench, then 5, then 3, then scroll through that even. Had to enable that so I could use a manual focus lens that I purchased for my M50.

Hey, Jared good morning, I have the FEELWORLD LUT7 7 Inch Ultra Bright 2200nit. The issue that I have is with the display. I can't use both the display and the monitor at the same time! Not on the Canon M50, Rebel SL2, or nither EOS R. I saw many reviewers they have them both but for me? Doesn't work as you have in this video. Any help?

16:51 good to know, that if shooting in RAW and in monochrome that the image when imported into the computer will still have the color data, but if shooting in JPEG and monochrome the image when imported into the computer will be black n white no color data. 17:53 I agree to have touch shutter off. 18:10 super cool this camera has touch n drag AF.

I've watched this a few times to familiarize myself with the camera, but I can't find anywhere what the little green light on the top of the camera indicates. Googling it is a total waste of time. is there ANYWAY way to turn off the blanking of the backscreen if something goes infront of the view finder... i noticed in your video around 3:50, and mine does it too, if you hand goes infront of the view finder to change settings, the screen goes black.. SUPER annoying

The absolute best tutorial! I just received my M50 as a gift (first time using a real camera) I've always used my phone. I was completely clueless and most videos just rushed through the set up which was not useful. This helped me so much Jared! Thank you so much!!

The canon EOS M50 is in a special niche, it's a vlogging camera. I don't know, tired of those niches with Canon, one camera does this, one camera does that, but another camera can't do that because the functions exist but they are crippled or limited. I think the price might attract some people, the ones that are still with canon and could not find a lightweight camera to do the same thing that Sony's cameras I guess. I would personally not buy this camera for photography, but more for videos. How is that bitrate compared to the 80D? It seems better IMO. There are many reasons to buy this camera and many other reasons for not buying it ugh. And it's pretty cheap compared to other cameras. Dang it i am going to buy it.

I see you going through menu 6,7, and 8. Mine only goes 1-4. Why can't I go to the same settings and levels?

Great timing. I got my M50 about two weeks ago. Went to a fandom convention this weekend, really loved shooting with it. I bought the camera to be a companion and backup to my 80D. Now I am thinking it might be replacement. Biggest headaches of the weekend, short battery life and bouncing the lens adapter between my 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8. The EF-M 22 f2 took the place of the EF-S 24mm f2.8 in my camera bag.

You’re forgetting to mention that “switch” on the battery cover, is not actually a switch. It’s another door for a cord you put in the camera if you want to connect your camera to the mains power. Try pulling that rubber bit open, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. It on nearly every canon camera, not just the m50.

Thank you so very much the video is well detailed, just bought my EOS M50, having difficulty setting it as most of my videos are recipes as times when i shot the video will come out so dark and blurry and my pics too, i noticed that you didn't talk much of the picture settings, but every other aspect was well detailed. A suggestion for new owners. While setting up the connection to Canon Camera Connect app - do the bluetooth part first. It can then talk to the camera and they agree on wifi password, joining network etc. so you don't have to do any of that manually (as another "how to use M50" video by other youtuber showed). I have a Motorola Moto X4 which have NFC and the camera has that too but I didn't get it pair just by holding them close together though.

That ring around the rosy game is supposedly in reference to the "rose-colored" ring of inflamed lymph nodes, which was symptomatic of the plague. The last part of the game, where they say, "we all fall down" is symbolic of death. It's kind of creepy that they let kids play that game up into our childhood isn't it? Make me shudder in my twenties when I discovered it's supposed meaning.

Jared, thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I just traded in my Canon 70D with the 18-135mm stm for the M50 strictly for the smaller size and lighter weight of the kit. I also purchased the EOS M adapter so I would be able to use my 55-250mm and 40mm pancake lenses with the new camera. I used to be able to custom set AEB on the 70D and have it retained even when the camera was POWERED OFF but on the M50 after setting up AEB as a custom function when you POWER OFF to save battery life and then POWER ON you have to re-enter your AEB settings again. If you or any of your subscribers know of an alternative way to retain the AEB settings that would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you have a minute to answer, I just bought the M50Mark II, while downloading photos via wifi/bluetooth to iphone 11Pro, I import the photos to iphone. They import, but when I pull up the photos they do not load. Right now I have tried RAW and JPEG, and just RAW. I have not been able to automatically import to photos even though they are imported successfully.

I just got an m50. For the VF Settings, I use "display 2", which shrinks it down a bit, because then I can easily see the whole viewfinder image while wearing my glasses.

Just an FYI - SERVO AF is not compatible with Eye AF. If you want Eye AF, you need to be in ONE SHOT AF.

The menu that you start going through at roughly 10:10.....you state that the settings you go through are for modes P, TV and AV. As an absolute beginner, I only wish to use Full Auto mode (green). Must you not also go through settings for this mode? If so, are they the same settings that you go through for the other modes (P, TV, AV) ? Thanks

Just a question, I think the explanation of the Drive Mode that you say is one part wrong, at least my Canon does it differently , in the last one, if you choose (in the C) 5, it does a timer of 10 seconds and then takes 5 continuously photos, it's great for group photos, because, some people blink or look away, etc. If the M50 does like you said I'm sorry, My is a Canon 800D or T7i

I just bought m50, I am having 700d too. I went to canon lens registration tool to register my ef-s lenses to m50...And I was shocked to see that I can register only three lenses as compared to 40 lenses in 700d. No RU-vid reviewer is talking about this huge limitation

Hi Jared, I'm new to all of this and I just got EOS M50 Mark ii also got a sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN lens but it doesn't seem to fit do I need to send the lens back and get a different lense or is they a device that will allow me to fit the lense?
