What's it like to run 400 km through the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland...
Said to be the hardest Cape Wrath Ultra to date and up there with the toughest multi stage races out there. The Cape Wrath ultra is a 400 km trail ultra marathon with 14000 meters of elevation, completed over 8 days. Starting in Fort William it follows an unmarked and often pathless route through some of the most remote and beautiful places in Scotland. Enduring the worst weather possible and tackling the most challenging terrain, 300 started yet only 100 finished.
This was by far the hardest thing I've ever done and was very pleased with a finishing time of 59hrs 12mins and 11th place.

Hiya Paul, don't normally leave comments on videos but couldn't let yours pass me by. That looked like a proper challenge and the dropout rates and the weather gives us a small idea of how hard it must have been. Wow, what a coincidence. I was walking from Lochailort to Inverie at the very same time and followed your by then very well trodden trail in to Sourlies bothy, Loch Nevis, a few hours after you had passed. Didn't know about the race at that point and was astonished that such a remote path was so well used!!! Can fully vouch for the weather and ground - heavy! Amazing feat by you all - we were knackered after 3 days at a fraction of the distance, but we aren't runners and didn't have anyone to carry our kit! Great ideas for future treks following other stages of the route. Well done on the the event and the video - can't believe you were still walking at the end!

@@paulmanson1 ta. I have the trailfly g300 which are dead comfy but not good in the mud, and some other inov8 with 8mm lugs which cope pretty well. @@TheRandomRunner Thanks Paul, could you elaborate on a training scheme that you typically follow? I started begining of Sept with my training. I do run half a marathon at a pace of 5:42min/km. How would you suggest to plan the coming months. Our aim is to run the trail between 4-14 May 2023. And yes we take one extra day (try to do it in 9 days). Appreciate any feedback you can give us. Also, since this is a first for us, how do you deal with eating during the day, what to you take along, how often do you eat, ... things like that. If you would like, I could set up a video call to have a chat, which is perhaps more easy for you instead of having to type everything. Thanks in advance!
