@@casualjay909 they cover most of the spend categories with decent rewards. VX is your travel, plus catch all card. S1 is your food and entertainment card. The only significant spend category missing is gas, if that applies to you.
I was lucky to snag this card last month with the 90k bonus offer. The 2x on everything else makes it a good addition as a catch all card. So far its definitely a card I'll keep in my wallet and I can see myself having for a while...Great vid Daniel💥
For those wanting to apply but unsure if they’ll get approved: I have 752 credit score, only Chase Cards, and applied off the hip after watching this video- and I got instantly approved. My card came in yesterday. Other people have different stories but this is my experience.
The Venture X is a card that I don't see myself canceling with how easy it is to get positive value from with even just one trip a year through their portal, but at the same time, I don't think it's as premium as people make it out to be. It's a great middle ground between cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and a true premium card like the Amex Platinum which puts it in a category of its own, and that's good and bad in some ways. Definitely still a powerful card as it sits right now though! Great video as always brotha 👊🏼 Side note: The Hertz Presidents Circle status has been one of the most underrated benefits of this card for my personal use. It's been amazing!
I think the Amex plat lost a lot of its exclusivity and Amex customer service lacks what it once was. Though I agree with your overall statement, it’s hard to call the amex play a “true premium” card
Please do a video on your 2-player strategy! I've been trying to convince my girlfriend to move on from her beginner credit card she got since college, and since I've personally only got three cards we're basically a blank slate for an optimal strategy
If you don't mind travel portals, and don't care about hotel status, the Venture X is a great card. My wife and I travel about once or twice a year domestically (internationally every couple years), plus buying travel for her family. None of us care about status or a particular hotel chain, so the portal works great for us. If status matters to you, or you only stay at a certain hotel chain or fly a certain airline, or you don't like portals, the VX might not be the card for you.
We can keep picking this card apart but no card is perfect. It comes down to personal preference to be honest. This card is still one i will be applying for and combing it with my Amex gold card.
C1 was really smart giving 2x on everything. Since this is my catch all card I will probably never get rid of this card. Also that I visit their awesome lounges 2-4 times a year doesn't hurt either.
Great video Daniel. Thanks. My wife was recently approved and I am an authorized user. After watching your video I realize there are more benefits then I thought such as a lot of transfer partners to yield better points value. Also the price match option on the Capital One Portal.
P2 was not getting pre-approved for any C1 card for the longest time. Three months after I added her as an authorized user on my Venture X card, she was approved for her own personal Venture X card. I would also suggest indicating that you often carry a balance when applying for any C1 card.
Just don't get why it's so hard to get this card. My credit is excellent (750+) miss no payments, hold barely any balances across my cards, have no capital one cards. It's just frustrating.
@@Shawn.creditCapital One is very odd in their underwriting. I was approved and I had 31 other cards open at the time with a combined available credit of 4x my annual income. There doesn’t seem to be a reasoning behind some of their denials.
@@andysok06 Capital One uses a proprietary algorithm to approve people. There’s some data points that show they have a tendency of declining you if they think you aren’t going to be profitable (ie, you’re not going to be accruing interest and late charges). I applied for the Venture X for my mom and she was declined. She has an Experian score of 784, no debt at all, 3 credit cards in her entire life, and an income in the mid-six-figures. It’s a bit of a crapshoot. At least they’ve been kind enough to create a pre-approval tool so people aren’t getting hard pulls anymore.
I have 752 credit score, only Chase Cards, and applied off the hip and got instantly approved. My cards came in yesterday for my wife and I. Not sure why the experience varies so much.
If you spend more than $400 per year on travel (flights, shuttle, etc) it is more than worth it. And all the other perks are cherries on top that you may want to use at some point. Capital One price match is simple and makes the $300 credit very easy.
Similar to you, I'm actually hoping to add the Venture X to my 2 Player Setup as well. Actually having my wife Lucia apply for the Card this weekend in hopes of getting approved due to flying out of DC twice next month (be able to utilize the new lounge) & also because I I love how simple & straightforward the Venture X is, if you are able to maximize the Travel Credit. Great video as always Daniel!
Thanks! I decided to get the card for the travel benefits after watching your video. Like you said, I was concern that I might get denied. So I gave the sign up the spouse trick you mentioned and Viola, instant approval even with a 750 score.
does capital one price match travel sites? I struggle to justify using a portal for $30 in travel points when a travel site has it for $50 cheaper. Yet, if they price match everything then this is great. However, it seems like there might be some fine print on the price match that i am not aware of. Any ideas on what the catch is?
Great video. As they say mileage may vary. I travel 99% of the time with my family and value transferring 120k Chase points more for a Hyatt resort for a week then for a nicer round trip flight, that being said 100% of my Chase points go to Hyatt (I have gotten well over 4cpp on redemptions) and the VX is my PP airport lounge card that mostly sits in the sock drawer aside from the once a year use of the $300 credit because I book direct with hotels and airlines and not through portals. The VX transfer partners are not great from a hotel perspective and with their airline partners I would have to search for award flights and that does not allow for flexibility when traveling with family
@@annwaltzer I have the CSP (with CFU and CFF) and I have the Hyatt card too, I’m still within my first six month promotional period of the Hyatt card so the 2x now is better than the 1.5x catch all on the CFU. After the 6 months the Hyatt card will be only used for Hyatt stays / free night as the multipliers are not beneficial and less than the CFU etc.
With lounges dealing with overcrowding, I think they should both charge for extra cardholders, as well as not let them bring in guests. That should be a perk for the primary card holder.
How to make sure that a) the prices in the portal to redeem points aren’t higher than cheap sources such as Google flights? b) earning the miles/ points is better than cash back on everyday transactions and then again in a flight purchase transaction?
Caveat Emptor: Capital One continously takes away benefits. Priority Pass restaurants now only lounges. $300 travel stipend that allowed you to earn points on spending now only a coupon that forces you to use with their travel portal. Hertz President's Circle elite status ending in 2024. Lounge access might be next on the chopping block. No Capital One lounges in Boston Logan airport only DFW, IAD, and DEN. Chase Sapphire Reserve is easier to use and return value for slightly higher annual fee.
One thing I will say about the Capital One portal is they really are limited in rental car options. I'm currently in Montreal on vacation and wanted to try out the Hertz status that comes with my card. Unless I wanted to book from the airport I had to use another company, like Budget and Alamo, as there were no Hertz locations offered besides the airport. I even found a Hertz location in downtown Montreal with cars available for my dates, but it was missing from the travel portal. The same goes for Enterprise and National. Ended up booking an Alamo car instead.
Heads up Hertz presidential status doesn’t rely on use of the Capital One travel portal. You just have to register for it through Capital One and you can book directly with Hertz. Once you have Presidential status you can then status match with a couple other rental companies.
In situations like this, it helps to call Capital One. Capital One travel agents will book a car for you and they can often find something on their end that you couldn’t find within the portal.. it’s a little weird and perhaps annoying to have to do that extra step. But it’s worth it if you’re very particular about what agency you like to rent cars from or what cars you get 🤷♂️ I’m sure there’ll be times when even Capital One agents can’t find what you’re looking for, but it never hurts to try.
The only reason prevent me from getting this card is because I hardly travel. And the annual fee is not helping with my the decision. Honestly I don't like annual fee cards.
But, if you book a hotel through the. Spiral One Portal you will NOT earn hotel points (at least at Marriott’s or Hilton’s). Something to keep in mind.
Everyone loves to talk about the card, but no one has tried to take a crack out how they will justify the annual fee increase when it inevitably happens. I think Ive seen someone say that the fee will be 495 which sounds right, and the travel coupon/credit will be broken down to two 200 credits where you use one in the first half of the year and the other in the second half. Anyways, thats where the conversation needs to head surrounding this card.
A fee and credit structure like you described is similar to what the CSR and other premium travel cards have and people seem to find value in them. Capital One is taking a loss on these cards to capture market share. Just be ready to re-evaluate the card when they decide to bring the fee up to market rate.
You have the power to be the go-to channel for how to visit certain countries on points, how hotel and flight cards work, and underrated cards yet we keep seeing the same videos every month. Please consider branching out more but I understand you know your business and brand better. Just feel your target audience has already heard these tips and tricks before and for me I consider turning notifs off or unsubbing.
Honestly it makes me wonder why Sapphire products don't have 1.5x flat amount like Freedom Unlimited, or Platinum/ B Platinum like BBP. Would be nice to actually use my premium card and give it a reason to be in my wallet not just booking travel
There’s a few of those videos out already. Capital One is the better card based on its fee structure. A big variable is how you value points and whether you’re loyal to any particular airlines or hotel brands. For example, if you prefer Hyatt hotels, then CSR is a substantially better card.
Your reasons were same reasons why I was denied for venture x. It's been over a year. Thinking of trying again so I can pair with my savor one. But looks like you been denied over a year later again???
Hi Daniel, question for you. I recall you saying that your fiancée had the Venture X as the primary cardholder and you’re an authorized user. Which one of you is the primary cardholder for your Savor One card? My husband is the primary on our Venture X card and I am the primary on the Savor One and we are not able to transfer our cash back rewards from the Savor One to the Venture X. Do you know why this may be? Does the primary cardholder have to be the same on both cards?
It essentially comes down to whether you’re going to spend at least $400 in travel to offset the annual fee. The card is great for everyone based only on the 2x miles per dollar spent. You just need to make sure you can organically use the travel credits to offset your annual fee.
Capital One has horrible customer service. There are a few no annual fee cards that offer the same 2X. At least three no annual fee cards offer more than 2X.
Is it worth trying to apply and use it even if I'm not sure I could reach that bonus? I'm basically waiting to get a travel card when I travel or I guess wedding expenses when I someday get married
so from what ive looked at recently most of the airlines have a 1:1 conversion ratio, if not lower. I havent seen any higher than 1:1 as per capital ones website. Is it different after applying for the card and actually having the points to transfer? I was most interesting in the 2-3 cents per mile you mentioned
Cap1 won't give me any more cards because I have too many accounts. I have 20k credit lines with two other card companies but they won't give me more than $750. They don't like me 😞
@@pysky4uI Have Currently 5 And Got Denied, Even After One Year. I’m Waiting Until August To Apply For Venture X. I Will Have 1 Hard Inquiry On August.
@@pysky4uHello I I Know This Is Late But I Had 7 Hard Inquires At The Time And I Never Got Pre Apporved And I Just Got Approved For The Venture X On Sunday At 4 Hard Inquires.
doesn't adding the annual $300 travel credit into the evaluation assume we will be booking the travel through the Cap 1 system? so for Year 1 if someone only wanted to book directly, it would be a $435 value? and Year 2 and beyond the AF would be $295? But the $300 annual travel credit could be combined after paying the AF for Year 2 to book a trip through the Cap 1 portal.
The $300 can’t be combined from year to year. But basically the $300 travel credit in the evaluation assumes that you will use it if you travel even 1-2 times per year. The good thing with Capital One travel is that they price match like I talked about - so from a pricing perspective it makes sense to use that travel credit first instead of booking direct
I started paying rent with this card and the 2x is a nice way to rack up the miles. I am aware of the Bilt card, but not certain I want to add it to the mix.
Im sorry but i have to disagree you are overlooking the value of this card Chase Sapphire Reserve . I do not like being locked into a portal for redemption 👌
@@TenaciousT1198 They will. You book it, then call up and tell them where it’s cheaper and they’ll give you a travel credit for the difference. You still get the 10x on the full amount too, so it actually works out better than a price match.
How accurate is the pre-approved Venture X process/site? I went through it and was pre-approved. Back in June, I was denied through the actual application process. The same reason Daniel received.
If the Capital One portal says you're already approved for the card, you can trust it. I was approved for 4 cards with them and grabbed the regular Venture card. Chase does the same thing, I was pre-approved for both the Sapphire Preferred and the Reserve so I took the Reserve.
@@cfpzona I've seen a few instances of pre-approvals for Venture X still resulting in a rejection when you finish the application. Especially with high-score bonus churning users. I appreciate the reassurance though!
If you get added as an authorized user on this card, when does it count towards your 5/24 status? Is it when the card was opened by the primary card holder or when you got added as an authorized user?
@@Jiggy609 I get that but their ultimate goal is to put people into debt. everything is an incentive to get people to use the card and end up in debt. cant find the logic to pay an annual fee.
Not a waste at all! We just booked a resort for our vacation that was $760 for 2 nights and we used points for this luxury hotel! We're satisfied with our points redemption!
Question. Since there’s no interest for the first 15 months, if I didn’t pay the full balance on my first statement, would my credit score take a hit? I have full plans on paying the statement in full, but I am curious about this
It depends on what your utilization is. If you rack up $6,000 on a $10,000 credit limit then yes your credit score will tank. Up to 30% utilization, ideally less than 10% will have the least affect on your credit score.
If you don’t have the CSP or CSR to transfer out Chase points for greater leverage then I would recommend the VX. I have the CFU, CFF, CSP and VX, I transfer all Chase points to Hyatt and the VX is effectively my lounge and benefits card
Not a mistake, I’m talking about the cash equivalent of redeeming for travel which is 1 cent per mile. Explained it in more detail here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E4pFwoCgG-o.htmlsi=xEhCUY3pL_CSPK6C Never settle for 0.5 cents per mile for cash back with Capital One. Sorry if that wasn’t clear in the video 👍
Technically no but there’s a work around. You can’t go into the portal and use your points to pay for the annual fee BUT you can use your points to erase $395 worth of travel purchases made after the $300 travel credit has been exhausted.
