In my opinion Sunil mount is busy guy maybe he is not able to follow everything happening here in India, and I felt he is more emphasising upon the customer psychology and how similar the customer is on the both sides. Maybe I am from Punjab and Pakistan got chunk of Punjab that is why I resonate with his thought process.

They are trying to compare $250 billion economy with a $4 trillion economy. Even the GDP per capita is double that of Pak despite 6 times the population. Pak to us is no diff than a Sudan or Uganda. I wonder what makes this Pakis say "hamare same hain". Pak wheels is probably one of the bigger start ups in Pak and I doubt if even that is a unicorn. India's added about 120 unicorns last few years alone.

Yes, India has local brands like Tata and Mahindra, but just having a domestic brand doesn’t guarantee global recognition. These brands are mostly limited to India and have a minimal presence in other markets. Pakistan’s car scene, with its love for JDMs, unique imports, and strong tuning and modifying culture, drifting and racing groups, is also significant. It’s not about the size of the industry but the passion for cars, and Pakistan’s market is equally dynamic in its own way.
I believe you haven't conducted thorough research on Indian automobile brands. If you do some investigating, you'll find that companies like Tata, Mahindra, Hero, Bajaj, and TVS have manufacturing and assembly plants outside of India, and their presence is growing rapidly.

Commenting after listening to the whole podcast: 1. Gagan looked meek infront of that guy, he didn't counter his guest. Maybe Gagan was trying to be civil & polite infront of his guest. But one this is sure, the guest took Gagan for a ride, badhiya phenka Pakistani maal and Gagan bought all those maals. Gagan acted like one of those 90s Kid who's standing outside Audi-BMW showroom and dreaming about owning those cars one day, proper fanboy moment of Gagan. P.S. I could be wrong, maybe that's how Gagan is in real life. 2. Whenever Gagan mentioned something about India (not boasted), the guest took him to China and subtly compared Indians to Chinese. 😅 3. You should have discussed Honda's situation in India Vs Pakistan. In India, we only get the Amaze, Elevate, and City, with only two engine options (1.2 and 1.5 NA iVTEC). Meanwhile, in Pakistan, people have access to the BR-V, City, HR-V, Civic, CR-V, and Accord, with engine options ranging from 1.2, 1.5, and 2.0 NA iVTEC to the 1.5 VTEC Turbo, etc. If Honda can launch the HR-V, Civic, Accord, and turbo engines in Pakistan, why don't they do the same in India? Instead of launching the Elevate, they should have launched the HR-V, which looks far better and would have sold in great numbers. Honda really needs to take the Indian market more seriously.
Honda imports in Pakistan..... They can not import in India as there is 100 percent import duties, so the prices get double. Nobody will buy those cars and they don't produce in India because their market in India is not that big.

Exactly when there is an Auto industry there will be tons of auxiliary industries. When Tata first came to West Bengal, Singur people (specially that times opposition party in Bengal) threw them away without realising what they were doing. Today just see what sanand has done soo far. It was a historic blunder. Being an Auto geek Ik what we loose as a people of west bengal.

Pakistan has a lot sedans and suvs with big engines like v6 and v8s. But in india v8s can be counted on fingertips, only few celebs and politicians has those. Pakistans most selling cars besides alto are corollas, civics and cruisers which are 1000 times better than indian cars. You missed the most important topic to discuss: Honda launched the new Civic, HR-V, Accord in Pakistan, with the 1.5 VTEC TURBO and other engines, but not in India. It's so sad that Honda is giving more importance to Pakistan than India.
Importance ka issue nahi hein it's acyually jese podcast mein bola, apna joh import policy hein woh strict tha pehlese, whereas pakistan ka abhi jaake 2016 mein strict hogaya, toh udhar pehlese mil jata tha whereas idhar bohot cost effective tha aur logon ki mindset bhi alag thi due to huge population or economies of scale ke bajese ajj Civic, Accord nahi bikti. Plus agar unka car localisation acquiring dekhoge toh alag hein India se.
Its easy to introduce a product in pakistan because companies have to pay very less in import dutyfor parts in initial years but in india you have to set up a unit and full market compatibility r&d
