If it had a six speed Id have gone for one as Ive got an old 9N. Honestly bar some parts around the footwells and the door cards, the Fiesta interior matches up quite well and the seats hug you so well. But for me the the Fiesta is a car you feel so invested and involved with to drive, 1L ecoboosts are fantastic.
You compare it with the Fiesta? But did you drive the new Fiesta automatic ? It is so sloooooow compared to the Polo DSG and sitting in the back is a real challenge in the Fiesta compared to the bigger Polo. So Polo is a clear winner, although Fiesta has traffic sign recognition :-)
For the new Fiesta Ford gave up their dubble clutch gearbox and went back to a traditional torque converter box. I guess, this is because of many technical issues with the dubble clutch system and poor market acceptance outside Europe, where Ford have most of their sales. Still its a bit of a step backwards, so if you want an automatic, the Fiesta is not the obvious choise in Europe. However the vast majority of B-segment buyers in Europe go a manual. And here Ford is actually ahead, since the 100 hp Fiesta comes with a 6-speed, whereas the 95 hp Polo only get a 5-speed.
Im deciding on a new Polo or new Micra to replace my 15 plate Golf. Not sure what to get but pricing will definitely be a big factor. BTW that wasnt status quo!
I bought the New Micra as the Polo was too expensive and I'm happy to say how impressed i am with it. Not only is it a stunning looking car in Energy Orange, it has a great level of equipment and handles like a go cart. It's peppy 0.9 turbo engine suits the car but it's power delivery does take a bit of getting used to. This new Micra is a strong contender for best supermini, it really is a great little car.

He's basically saying, i couldn't afford the Polo so i got the Micra and i was surprised at how good it was for how much cheaper it was. Also it really isn't a bad car, not because i settled for one or anything.

I do not like how this car drives. To me it feels like the car has been disconnected from the road. This is the kind of car I would get sea sick in. It may be very well suited for a granddads kind of driving style but not for me
Was really looking forward to buying this new wee beastie. But it's backside looks terrible. It's like they used up all the design budget on the front three quarters. The rear lights look like lego bricks (unlike the smart looking ones on the Golf). And no three door version :( It seems, to me at least, that buying a new car has become like voting in an election - go for the one you dislike the least. Top review though.
No Sleep Pete Yes! that was the first thing I though when I saw it - looks great from most angles then I saw the rear light cluster, which spoils the overall look and doesn't look much different from the old model (which wasn't a looker) .
"The residual values have been set around 5% higher than blah blah blah". Last time I checked in free market economies residual values are a function of supply and demand, so you can't simply set them. They do like to think that they run the place don't they. All the fucking time.
Dave, of course but once the lease is back on the market as used car and the market values it lower than the artificial residual value someone has to absorb the difference. In socialism it's the state that does it. In what we have here it is also the state that does it because once the cheap finance house of cards backed by these artificial residual values/creative accounting comes tumbling down there will be a need for another bailout. Bailouts is what created this cancer.
I'm looking at my first car .. and to be honest even if I had the money I think I'd go for the MK5 Polo . I am not a fan of 5 door only or the colours on the dash , also in my opinion the older Polo is of a higher quality . That is not very VW at all .
Dan L you don't have to have the fancy colors, you can choose silver/grey or black ones as well. The MK5 better quality? Definitely not. You need to see these side by side in the showroom, I did, the Mk6 Polo is really up there, only an arm's length away from the Golf VII, equal to a Golf V I would say. The deals on the remaining MK5 ones are nice of course, which can be great for a first car.
Always thought the Fiesta looks like shit inside and kinda ugly on the outside. Polo lost its character, now it looks like a woman's car full of colors and fancy
