Well, Wizard, you did better than me. I found a local Unicorn - one of the 107 Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG's in the US. Went and test drove that 507 HP van with my wife and kids. Got the conclusion of "not this one". ... or so I thought. I learned that the wife's perspective was that "not this one" meant "nope"... when I bought a lower mileage, fully sorted example. Oh by the way... the one I bought was about half again as much as we talked about for the other one. On the plus side - I sold it in early May for $3500 more than I had paid for it in October, just about making it a zero sum game for me. So good on you, sir, for getting Mrs. Wizard's *clear* approval in advance.

The 308 was the best looking of the 3 Car Trek cars. It may not have been perfect, but it was the one I would have wanted.

This is the most iconic Ferrari and I am glad it has found a loving home. Well done Wizzard.

The 308's, and 512BB from that era were my favorite looking Ferraris.. If cost wasn't crazy I'd opt for black instead of that brown, and at least 16's. 205/55R16 front and 225/50R16 rear was an option.

I picked up the same year, 1978 208GTS from an estate sale late last year, I never intended to be a Ferrari owner though I spontaneously purchased it for shockingly on the cheap! It's in great shape including MANY extra parts such as tin Ferrari "posters" hung in original owners garage, tools, carbs, doors, seats, various steering wheels, not yet installed roll cages, fuel (gastanks) cells, NEW old radiators, stock piston kits, rods, crankshafts, bearings, lots of misc bolts & fasteners, even high comp piston kits, two NEW engine blocks, various performance cams for the original 2 valve per cyl engine among multiple other(s) for the 4 valve heads including multiple sets of "DOHC" 4 valve heads! The driving computer still works along with everything else. The owner ran "engineered" gasoline he purchased at hardware store which explains how clean the engine is along with running waterless coolant, I've inspected engine with a cheap video inspection "endoscope" I ordered from Amazon. The owner accumulated the various parts over the years after he purchased car from original owner in early 1990's, I remember seeing the car for many years even as a child at local parades & car enthusiast meetups, his family didn't know much about the car but claimed they had many memories & stories about it growing up they were in an apparent hurry to sell off the estate with the pandemic situation & all I lucked out being the only person who offered to purchase it, being where it was located people were more interested in the various tractors & Ford trucks from the estate. So far I've driven it in a local parade & plan to drive it this holiday weekend, if it doesn't rain.

I love your vision for taking it back to pretty close to stock. I grew up watching Magnum so the 308 is my favorite Ferrari. I think they are beautiful and this one is a really straight and clean to start with. I think that it's going to be a great car when you get done with it.

This looks like the 308 that Doug Turner and David Diem used for their NY to LA run! They did it in a red Ferrari 308 as far as my memory goes. It can be verified by watching “APEX” on amazon prime! May the force be with you Wizard!

My 308 was a '77. The UK's first steel-bodied one. It had a red dash and interior and I've never seen another 308 with one. It was also so early, that it had the bumper for the previous fibreglass edition (with the indicators and reverse lights in place). Proves that even the mighty Ferrari raid the parts bin for their early models!

We have a saying here in Australia for our locally made Holden 308 V8 powered cars of the same time period, "You're never late in a 308!", this most certainly applies to the Ferrari 308. My father had a metallic blue carburated 308 back in the 80's. It was the composit body not the steel one. He said the carbs were painful and needed regular synchronisation. I'm really looking forward to this series of videos!

I was a bit saddened it ended up on Car Trek, kinda similar to how I got sad when Top Gear would ruin cars with their car challenges, sure it had seen better days, but it deserved to be saved, well... in my mind at least. So seeing this pop up I'm pleasantly surprised, I'd kinda visited this channel now and then at random, but this had me finally click that subscribe button, and realize I'm missing out on good content, so gonna go through the backlog of videos a bit now. But before my ADD has me go off on another topic, what I originally attempted to write: I'm glad this car ended up in your hands, and I look forward to seeing you tend to it, while it'll probably not be attending SEMA or competing in Concours d'Elegance, just seeing it get sorted out and put back into a usable state once more, warms my heart. I owned a '79 308 GTS back in the '80s and will always have a place in my heart for these cars. For that reason, as long as Freddy didn't have time for it, I'm glad to see the Wizard bought this car. I know it will be in good hands as he brings it back its former glory.

If he starts collecting hoopties at this rate, Wizard might have to sell one of his yachts!

I had an 85' 308GTS QV and the previous owner added a power amp and old time GPS anti-theft tracking system. I had to rip it all out and re-wire everything to bring it back to stock. You don't mod these cars, they are rare in great condition, they need to be saved. Mine was exceptional when I finished it and finally sold it. I used to just sit in the garage and look at it, they are a work of art.

I look forward to seeing how this one progresses. It's obviously in very good hands and I found myself nodding in approval of everything you have planned for it.

Fun toy ! Spent a lot of time in a 76 GRP bodied car with some head porting, a full exhaust and bigger venturies etc in otherwise factory Webbers. Its easily the most fun I have ever had in a slow car. The mechanical noise of an older Ferrari is something every petrol head needs to experience, after spending time with one its immediately apparent why people love these cars and gladly afford them.
