I'm amazed by how much information Tim provides to the general public. It is rare fore someone to share the secret recipes to their success. Keep in mind that Tim and his crew have had years and years of experimentation. With that said the techniques Tim is sharing works well with his products. Not all composite panels will respond like Tim's. Difference in resin systems, fiber quality, laminate construction all play a roll in the end result. I would suggest if you want to get results using these techniques use the same materials Tim is showing in these videos. You wouldn't run down to Lowe's and buy a piece of MDF when you really needed a piece of marine grade plywood just because it was the same shape and color. This is how he makes fantastic race cars if you want similar results you better pay attention to the details.

I will always pay for good tools vs chinese junk and Dynabrade makes some of the best out there. I worked in a bodyshop in the 90s and their DA sanders were the only ones that held up. A second plus was they didn't make your hands numb. I will have to check out the little belt sander. Thanks for the great videos Tim.

Thanks for the vid. In my experience solid carbide drills work well in carbon fiber sheets. Will drill nicely and stay sharp in a way that HSS simply cannot. Probably cost prohibitive for anything but the smallest diameters though.

Hey Tim, for cutting carbon, have you tried a pencil grinder like a dremel or an air pencil with a 40mm diamond coated cutting disc? It's very precise and can do any job, big or small. Through my 9 years of motorsports composites, this is definitely my go to cutting method.

What do you recommend if you want to join a vertical piece to a horizontal piece as far as a bonding agent ? For example. You make a custom instrument panel cover and have to trim it to fit and remove a couple of mounting tabs in the process.

So... question... I'm looking at making my own carbon fiber panels for a small hobby project I'm looking at doing, and I'm looking for information on bending carbon fiber... i understand how you explained how to do a bend with heat, as well as how to do a bend with a straight boaded machine, but i was wondering about doing a heated bend. Is there any kind of minimum thickness of the carbon fiber sheets, and is there a limit on the types of carbon fiber that can be heated? Also, would it be possible to take and sand the print-through area, andadd another layer or two of carbon fiber cloth on top, on one or both sides, to restore the original looks? Maybe you guys can help answer a question or two on carbon fiber strength as well... I'm looking for something to use as a core material, and I've seen "soric core" mentioned, byt can't find anything of that name readily available on Amazon. You guys talk of using something like a fiberglass mat, but I'm wondering, if there's something that's both cheap and readily available, that isn't fiberglass, as i honestly don't like working with anything that has fiberglass in it? i can't stand the itching that accompanies stuff, such as fiberglass insulation, so i wonder if there's a cheap way to get around that... to be clear, all these panels will do, is sit on the side and back of a tiny bicycle baby trailer that has had it's canvas covering deteriorate from being left outside, that i got from a family friend for free... Also, just say that I was to have my back piece made, and my 2 side pieces made, is there an easy way to permanently connect them together? Another related question would be, how would/could you do nice looking upholstery corners when attaching the carbon fiber cloth connecting the curved back and side pieces together? I assume that it would also include a bunch of sanding to make it more or less flat? Again, those questions assume that's how you'd connect panels together... think of ut like this, yhe sides are held upright with a bar spanning the width of the frame, with a plastic headed tightening bolt on either end, which is probably what I'd mainly use to keep everything connected to the frame... whether i used more or not, i don't need the resultant sheets, either separately or as a whole, to be too strong, just enough to possibly deflect a few rocks, as I'm not planning on running over it with a tank or something so it should be good enough if it can withstand a bit if wind and rain, as i DO hope to make it somewhat water resistant for usage in light rain, if need be...

Carbon splinters are the worst. Good to wear at least a really good dust mask if using air tools with carbon.

My biggest dream is to buy a car from your shop, it should be awesome..

If its cosmetic it dosnt matter but if its not use diamond saws and bits and never ever fracture a cured part make it to shape from scratch and dont use epoxy use Vinyl Ester.👍

When the wife raises hell because you walked off the snap-on truck with a $300 set of drill bits. $700 set of wrenches. Call Tim, he will explain why all the cheap stuff is a piece of shit and waste to even buy. On your level buy once cry once is a way of life. If you want to be the best, buy/use only the best.
