Thanks for the knowledge. Back in the '50s my Dad bought me a Carcano for $14.00 in Kleins Department Store, Union Square, NYC. It was a present for my 14th birthday. I had the gun many years until it was stolen in a burglary. About five years ago the gun was returned to me, under surprising circumstances. Unfortunately the shmuck that had it put Duracoat on the gun . It still fires well, but I miss the blue

Good information here. I have a M38 that I picked up a few years ago that has a cracked stock that I need to repair. The bore is rough as a cobb. I like this little rifles. Looking at picking up one or two of the 91/38's soon. Was stationed in La Maddalena for 2 yrs back in the early 2000's and these rifles will remind me of my time there.

RTI had a sale around July 4th I think. Maybe $50 off each. So I bought a m38 Calvary carbine and 91 TS. They look about like what has been shown on other videos. Not much bluing on exposed metal. They were complete and functional. Today I just got the 91/24 I ordered from Buds. It was originally a 1918 rifle. It has cosmolone but looks a grade or 1-1/2 better than RTI guns

Great video again. I just bought a carcano full length from RTI. Just got it today. Its in really good condition actually. theres is some light surface rust and the rear sight is slightly bent on the one side. I havent fully cleaned the bore yet but im really happy with it. No ethiopian markings or scrubbed off marks. stock looks not bad at all. Its an 1899.

I did make a tin foil tray with sticks to support the walls .soaked the barrel and stuff with mineral oil. Used DN alcohol on the stock then boiled linseed oil. I havent taken the bolt apart or fully cleaned the cosmo out of the barrel. It took me awhile to clean it lol. still needs a lil work. One step at a time but its almost done. If there wasnt a bit of rust i would be extremely happy with it. There was some rust on the receiver bolt track

My M91 TS got delivered from dk firearms yesterday. It's a 1907 production with a FAT 1947 stamp on the stock. The stock has a lot of dings and gouges. There was pitting on the outside of the barrel under the furniture. It has a good bore. Overall I'm pretty happy about it for the price.

No prostate exam please... lol... I will send you a video when i make it here soon. My Carcano looks good accept the stock had a pretty good crack in it. I did what I could and I think it will be ok to shoot, just sucks that buds sent me one that had a crack in the stock as bad as that one was.

Picked up one pre Y2K at a gun show in fairly good condition. Thing was it was 7.35 Cal rather then the normal 6.5. Also was able to get 4 boxes of ammo in original boxes most still sealed with tape (Bologna (T.M.) 1939) Still have the boxes in fairly good shape unopened and the ammo is still unfired. Also had half a dozen loose rounds and a few spare stripper clips. Also the rounds in the boxes seemed to be packed on stripper clips from the one I looked in.

I watched a video review of one of the Palmetto ones and it was a cut down. It had the original rifle length sights on it just regraded for the carbine length.
@terrybeavan4264
@terrybeavan4264 3 года назад
@@Raciris I think there's a little confusion as to what Palmetto State Armory was and is selling--at least I know I was confused! They first sold a batch of 91/24's and those have been sold out for a while--I bought one of those (not understanding the difference between the 91/24 and 91TS at the time) and it was one filthy dirty carbine with some significant rust under the receiver and some mild surface rust in a few places; and while the bore doesn't look bad after some serious cleaning, it's stamped with a star which I understand means it's been rebored and I can insert a PPU soft nose round into the muzzle all the way to the brass--haven't shot it yet but I suspect it isn't going to do so well! Now here's the important part: after these sold out, Palmetto State put out ANOTHER ad that at first glance looked identical but reading carefully these are 91TS's they're currently selling, and I just bought and received one of these and do believe I really really lucked out on this one! I most definitely got a 91TS not a 91/24 when I placed this second order, and got an early one, dated 1918 and made in Brescia, it has the early bayonet lug same as the carbine he has at the top in this video, wood is very dark and of course has the usual dings but is in great condition with no visible cracking; it's dirty and covered in cosmolene but NO visible rust other than a wee bit of surface rust on the cleaning rod, though I haven't disassembled it to look under the receiver yet; the bore is filthy (aren't they all when we get them?) but appears to be in good shape, and inserting a supposedly slightly undersized 6.5 Carcano softpoint PPU round into the muzzle this one's tight, there's a little over a 1/4 to 3/8" gap between muzzle and brass so I suspect all in all I've gotten a great one! Of course it came in the usual nice Palmetto State packaging I've come to expect from them. I should send a message and pics after I finally am able to get to the range and shoot these. I also bought a Cavalry Carbine from Classic Firearms but that's a whole other story, what seems like the usual pattern with them, what I got wasn't NEARLY as good looking as what they showed in their pics and video despite my choosing "hand select" it's covered in surface rust, though it also appears to have a good bore and I think after some major cleanup it'll also do fine--the same bullet test the bullet leaves well over 1/4" gap between bore and brass so if anything I think it's got a tighter bore still than my 91TS. Hope all this helps!

My 91/24 from Buds looks very good including the bore... haven't had a chance to fire yet. I own one other Carcano from JGSales several years ago, but cannot seem to pin down the variant. Clearly an 1891, stamped 18, straight bolt handle, barrel few inches longer than the 91/24, still has the 2000 m sight and no bayonet lug. The stock does not appear to be designed for a bayonet, with a nice finish out to the end. Does this sound familiar, or could I have a 'mix and match' Carcano?

20+ years ago, surplus firearms were inexpensive and the surplus ammo was also inexpensive, giving the purchase of surplus firearms an incentive. I’m not sure what the point is now in purchasing surplus firearms unless you’re collecting. Even the AK74’s which were abundant and inexpensive are now very rare and triple the price of what they originally went for. But again, I don’t think I would’ve bought most of my surplus firearms unless the inexpensive crates of surplus ammunition weren’t available.

I don’t agree necessarily. I really think it depends on the rifle and condition. I have a 91 TS that is smoother than my Gew 98 by a mile. Both in similar conditions. It’s all personal preference really sure it’s not the best rifle but it’s definitely not the worst I could’ve been given in either world war.

If you man the Cavalry Carbine with attached folding bayonet like he had at the bottom of the screen, I bought one of those from Classic and paid for the hand select and what I got sure is NOT like new and despite the hand select isn't nearly as good looking as in their pics and video, it's basically almost covered in surface rust. But I think after some major cleaning it'll shoot fine as the bore appears to be in good shape and passes my put the bullet into the muzzle test with about 3/8" of bullet sticking out between muzzle and brass. Still, I wish I'd have saved my money on the hand select, and I'm WAY happier overall with my 91TS I just got from Palmetto State! (As I note in another message above, Palmetto State were originally selling the cut-down 91/24's which I got one of those and while it's a nifty piece of history I suspect mine won't be a good shooter based on its apparently rebored bore, but they're currently selling the 91TS's and if the one I just got is any indication I'd hugely recommend them for the $249 price! No rust, dark stock but no cracks and apparently a good condition bore!)

@terrybeavan4264 3 года назад
SGAmmo as some have said sells the PPU factory loads, that's where I got mine, they have both soft nose and FMJ; this stuff is supposdely a little undersized which with the 91/24 is probably not good as I suspect like my 91/24 they've all been rebored--watch this guy's video on it and you'll get the gist of it. (not dangerous to shoot or anything like that, but it's probably gonna give terrible groups and even "keyhole" where the bullet isn't stabilized so when it hits the paper you see an outline of a bullet instead of a nice round circle. I suspect this ammo will do a lot better in the 91TS and Cavalry Carbine I've just bought which both appear to have good or even great condition barrels. A friend of mine does hand loads and we're going to try to do some loads with slightly bigger diameter bullets and hope we can make something work with my 91/24!
