On 590 The Fan KFNS, Bernie Miklasz talked with John Denton. They discussed the Cardinals sending Jordan Walker down to Memphis. #mlb #stlouiscardinals #jordanwalker
I watched Walker a lot in the minors and he hardly ever hit groundball. He hit line drives to all fields and HRs all over. I think he was just trying to hit right now in the Majors. I sure hope they dont screwed this guy up. Burleson should be the one sent down.
I’m not mad at this move. As much as I love watching walker, we need the other outfielders to play better. Why you ask? Because we need them to have some trade value at the deadline so we can get pitching. If they don’t get more playing time and get going they will be worth nothing and we won’t be able to get anything back for them. Obviously Walker is the future, but this season definitely highlights that without pitching you can’t win.
It's a common sense move. Get JW more looks at good breaking balls, get the best fielders in the OF, all while upping the value of the guys leaving this summer. Gotta turn more singles & dounles into caught outs. And JW is just not that outfielder right now. Besides, he's been hitting but hitting singles. He's a hr hitting machine that simply need to go in for a tune up. He'll be back after the crowd is thinned down at the deadline. Or a couple injuries. Whichever comes first.
Soooo, they send down the true must see player and call up a guy who is completely redundant. I feel silly giving my opinions as I am not affiliated with the team and not in the clubhouse to help. Like I know anything. Jordan is a bright kid. This won’t bother him. However, I think the team is missing the boat in not playing him, as well as Juan. Getting a real vibe that this group needs to be blown up, and given a fresh start. “Strange things are afoot at the circle K.” Indeed. Wishing the best for all concerned. “I thought this would happen at the big league level.” “It says a lot about the state of the Cardinals now.” Exactly. 🙄😬 ‘are they playing them too much to mess them up.’ Ya think????? “It’s a little bit of an off move.” D.U.H. ‘Motter is an 8th, 9th inning pinch hitter.” So, this guy is better than Yepez in this role????
Why would they do Jordan Walker like that 3rd in RBI on the team 5th on the team on Batting average 6 on the team with Hits.. just do t understand that
For what it is worth, I think Tyler O’Neal and others need to play more. The idea of coming to the diamond as a starter and sharing time, never getting into a rhythm is an absurd view of this generation of managers. Computers never played the game. Let a guy play every day and play better! I do think players were resenting the idea that 5 outfielders can share the games! Someone has to be a pinch hitter. I would have hated Marmol’s plan. You don’t have this start without players having some underlying issues.
This job is performance based and this move is indefensible. Walker has earned his spot at the major league level. He has outperformed all of the outfielders. Let Walker go to a team with more players that look like him and stop trying to ruin his career.
@@coleniebur9049 so the fuq what. War war war. This team is gonna be 10 games out of first by 5/1. Wins aren't gonna start rolling in anytime soon. Beating up the central is a thing of the past you don't get 20 vs them all anymore. Schedule only gonna get tougher not easier. Fuck war and fuck your fantasy baseball team
There are definitely things Walker can improve on but this would not have been my first move... Any struggles Walker has had are not the team's biggest problem. To me, the move should've been to call up Liberatore and either send down Woodford, or move him into a long-relief role like Thompson is in and send down Stratton or Romero since Hicks is untouchable from a demotion. I like John's point about forcing the other outfielders to not have any excuses for production going forward. As much as I like O'Neill, it really is a make or break season for him since he likely still holds good trade value from 2021. Hopefully Walker is up again before the AS break and is more selective at the plate. I don't even know if I care about him working on his launch angle because that's a big part of what caused Carpenter and Dejong to have the struggles that they've had.
Send Marmol to Memphis and bring up Ben Johnson. Memphis is 16-6 and kicking ass! The Cardinals are now officially a roaring dumpster fire complete with dirty air and stank.
Here’s the deal……Walker has hit everywhere he has played and he definitely was not hurting us although he is struggling a bit with the slider on the outer half of the plate. Have we not learned enough by screwing up perfectly good hitters in the past herein St Louis? I don’t give a crap about launch angle or elevating the baseball to hit homeruns. I would rather see Jordan ground out than strike out. He is putting the ball in play and usually hits it hard. One of the games early in the season where the Cardinals scored several runs they hit a bunch of singles and maybe sprinkled a couple of doubles in there and completely demoralized the opponent. I would like to think that the swing from your heels mentality would go away and especially with a kid as good as Walker. Let him do what he does. Also, watching Hicks pitch again on Wed night here, several balls thrown in the dirt and guys hitting him hard. He is not a major league pitcher. Period.
FINALLY! Someone pointing out the obvious! Carlson and O'Neal need to be in this outfield nearly EVERYDAY! Nootbar in RF and platoon Burleson between RF and LF.
You knew they would make him the scape goat as soon as he went into any sort of slump. Your telling me that this team has 3 outfielders that are better and playing more consistent ball than Walker. Don’t waste your time, because you can’t! Makes you wonder what an African American player has to do to keep a roster spot in St. Louis. Ha ha I laugh, but it’s far from funny- it’s embarrassing as a cardinals fan!
If this helps Jordan hit more line drives then it my be the best thing for him. He’s really young and trying to change things in the majors might hurt him or at the least make it harder. I don’t think his race has anything to do with it. But the entire league is short on African American players.
Agreed… on the entire league being short on African players- but I’m pretty sure the Cardinals are consistently at the bottom, if not dead last over the last decade with African American representation. Again, I’ll ask for 3 outfielders on this roster, that are playing better offensively than Jordan Walker. On a team that’s looking for offense. No one on this team is hitting the ball with more consistency except Nolan Gorman (my favorite of all the young guys) if you decided coming out of camp that he was your everyday right fielder… what has he done to be demoted?
I don’t think it’s due to his skin color or anything of that sort. CM needs to win now or he’s probably getting the axe because it’s commonly perceived that cards are under performing the teams abilities. We know the pitching staff is poorly constructed but it should still be good enough for a .500 record. Going ten games under par is easily the managerial issue. Not pulling the right strings to squeeze a run or two for a close win. The bullpen could not close out games. Helsley should have been demoted from the closer role because Gallegos is pitching well. These are all managerial decisions that could swing a few games to get to .500.
The ownership & management is completely useless right now! Why not bring up somebody with a little pop instead of a redundant player who at best would be a late inning pinch hit bat🤔 It sure seems like management is making decisions with a blindfold & a dart board with players names on the board! This is truly frigging SAD!
Oli is making terrible decisions! One after another! Consistency definitely plays a part but also giving the players confidence in their new managers plays a big part!
IMO DeJong moved Donovan into a true utility position as Gorman will relieve TE. Only two ways to win ball games. 1.) Score 2.) Keep the opponent from scoring. At this moment everyone in the dugout HAS to be a two way player to get out of this rut. BTW, StL is deep. Too deep. They need the guys going to get moved at trade deadline to get better to maximize their trade value to get better SPs & go after something big. Ohtani? Rarely does s club have a glut of tradeworthy talent. StL has more trade value in total than anyone & they've watched their cash last 2 years. Walker's not going anywhere & better to get consistent practice against breaking balls at AAA. Just my opinion but they've got to hold runs down & that takes the best fielding ya got. Noot, Carlson, Donovan in OF.
If the Cardinals did not plan on keeping Walker on the big league roster, why did they call him up in the first place? They surely knew his launch angle and defense needed work during ST but are only making a big deal of it now. They should have sent him to Memphis to start the season and call him up after the trade deadline, and let him start every game from then on. All STL did now was damage Walker's confidence and start his service time clock way too early.
Dejong and Motter taking up space on this infield is really dumb. I would easily tak walker over both of them at this point. I would take walker over oneill and Carlson right now. Walker isn’t taking anybody’s spot.
I don't think Walker is ready for the Show yet as an Outfielder or DH much like Juan Yepez ...plus Walker's minus 0.4 WAR on a losing team that is quickly cratering from bad to worse doomed his season. They need the strongest outfield now and Noot and ONeil and Carlson are just better defensively right now. Sure Burleson could have been sent down but the reality is Walker was hitting a lot of ground balls rather than liners over infielders and they need RISP desperately now so it was the right move by Ollie and Mo which would have been avoidable if the team was not stinking up the NL like a turd in the punchbowl right now!!! This team has some serious bull pen problems and a weak starting rotation. Walker was not playing everyday so he needed to be sent back down so he gets the playing time needed to continue his development. Let us be clear eyed about Walker, he is not the 2nd coming of Albert and he was not going to hit 30 HRs, bat .300+ or hit a 100 + RBIs. Frankly they need about three more Goldies on this team to compensate for the dreadful pitching with RISP. I don't know if some of the woes are due to Contreras being new to the team or just not as talented and skilled as Yadi, but I do not blame the front office or Ollie for the horrible pitching with RISP. That is on the pitching staff, coaches and also the game calling of the catchers to a lesser extent. Contreras has to learn the staff and that takes time to do. However, this team is already out of time now that they are in LAST PLACE IN THE NL CENTRAL with a 9-16 record for a .360 winning percentage!!!!!!! Right now, they cannot afford to have anyone playing who is not tops defensively and who is not hitting at least .275 because the pitching is just awful even when they get a decent start for 5 to 6 innings with 2 or less ERs. Frankly, I don't think Wilson Contreras can handle the pitch calling duties as the Cardinals now suddenly resemble the Cubs when Wilson C was calling games for them. They stink like the Cubs did. Now that said, the good news is that Wilson can learn and adapt but the pitching coaches and Wilson need to start running simulations and addressing pitch selection mistakes with RISP today!!!! Wilson is not throwing the meatballs up over the plate but he needs to better manage the staff's pitch selection in order to keep the pitches from being hittable with RISP.
Another fun night for the Birds on the Bat. 🙄 Goldy with a career night. 😃👍☝️💚However, what a mess. Between errors and 0 - fers, and the huge disappointment Matz continues to be…..
Ollie doesn't even wear a Cardinals uniform and looks like a bum. Cardinal cap is too big and I haven't even mentioned his managing skills. lol Memphis is right for Jordan because no one in St. Louis can't teach him.
So is there a certain amount of time that Walker will need to stay in the minors or is the extra year of team control gone when he made the roster out of spring training?
This was the right call. He's 20 year's old! There's nothing wrong with him getting some more at bats in AAA. But this in no way addresses the REAL PROBLEM with this team. Personally, I'm happy He's down so "Lolly" Marmol can't get his hands on him anymore with terrible line up cards.
At 273 vs Burleson 230 average both were sitting on 2 homers. 11 rbi vs 3 . Walker has better numbers and if Walker was batting in front of Goldy I'm sure his 2 homers would be double that. As far as arm an glove experience both are weak as AA players but Walker would have the nod. So it makes no reason to send him down. Weak hitting coach. Its about like this with our hitting coaches and our above 75yr + old staff..i see guys trying to hit a golf shot with no back swing. Especially Oniell. Waiting to see ball till the last second or react to it. Is like hitting a driver yet your backswing is about as in depth as your putters swing path if not littler. Walker has a tweak to be adjusted to but I doubt our boys can teach it to him so go find it elsewhere is the answer so Burleson can get more time in and he is at 2 homers or was up until today..its horse bull..bring up Winn to play an outfield position..bring up any one who can really play defense and batt over 300..Walker was much closer to it than the other and wasn't in front of Goldy every ab.
I'm sure Paul Goldsmith and Nolan Arenado would have said that that's the best move to make for that kids confidence he needs to learn a little bit more
Nolan arenado what's a world series ring they're going in the wrong direction he'll get free agency and find a team that knows what they're doing 😁 goalie also will have a long wait as long as John and oli are there
How does an organization hype a player as much as they did Walker to be the next Willy Mays and then send him back to Triple-A THEN give Motter a MLB Contract?? Are they trying to lose?
@@TylerBunchanumbers I don't think Motter is a trade piece. Any team could've had him (in the offseason). More like an insurance plan/bench bat, while this log jam of middle infielders (i.e. Paul Dejong or Tommy Edman) max out their value, and one of them are traded for pitching. Motter is a much cheaper bench bat, than having expensive DeJong on the bench.
@@Wobu27 No doubt. Ya know he aint going to replace Arenado. Heck Gorman is a 3Bman so I'm guessing they're going to play Motter (& others) just enough to raise their value. Even just a bit.
Respectfully, I love Jordan Walker, believing in his character and future, but I do think they had no choice. If hey thought he needed to develop his swing, then management made the mistake (as some of you are now saying). I thought he needed the beginning of the season to train for the outfield position they wanted him to play, and he needed to work on the swing. The Cardinals are panicking, and I cannot help but wonder if they feared they faced some resentment of the kid taking the other outfielders’ playing time. THEY MESSED THIS UP!
The truth of the matter is Cardinals SUCK and Bill DeWitt Jr, John Mozaliak should have made more moves in the off-season than they did! Now they are 9-16 and they should chuck it up to a bad season and CALL IT QUITS NOW and WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!
This is the Cardinals Way they are reacting to the pressure of losing and not staying the course of their decisions. I pray this young man can maintain his positive attitude about his future. Even if it isn’t with the Cardinals who have proven time and again that Black players are not wanted on this team. I will not be surprised to see Walker and Winn packaged for a starting pitcher which is the real problem for this team! I’m just totally frustrated with your takes on the issues with this team.
As a black man brother this is not the issue.. they hyped this kid and knew he had flaws in his game and rushed him out..one thing about the Cardinals they do not develop players well they depend on the players determination to get better instead of guiding them to a better career. look at Hicks ain’t no way his confidence should be down from his rookie year that he had a few years ago like look at our players we got players who have mental breakdowns who was good and now can’t find their selfs that’s a problem with the organization and you doing Walker like this can hurt him mentally but I believe walker will be OK
With moves like that they need to be in last place they have the two best pictures in the national league and trade them off to Miami for a washed-up outfielder
