Eunice meets Mama's new boyfriend. Guest starring William Conrad. Unedited as it originally aired on January 25, 1975. (This sketch was reworked to be an episode of Mama's Family called "Mama's Boyfriend")
Vickie Lawrence began on this show as a teen. She must have known she was made for acting. She is majorly talented and a real study in how to perform... She is able to go from aging "Mama" to one of the dancers in heels and seductive costumes. She can play such a variety of characters. She has cut records and ended up in the top 10 with great singing talent as well. Her one woman show has been performed around the country as well. She is amazing.
Eunice cracks me up when she be looking at Ed when he laughs and when mama Beau smacks mama in the behind lol her look is priceless 😂 and then Everytime Ed get up she sit him down lol her look are priceless
Same me and my grandma and the whole family would gather Friday nights around the TV set to watch the Carol Burnet show. Brings back such beautiful memories ❤❤❤
Carol Burnett is a national treasure. These ‘family’ segments are some of the funniest, most brilliantly acted and timeless comedies ever done. At times they also have a definite undercurrent of pathos. I imagine they hit home with a lot of people.
A lot of long lost sketches from The Family I bet this person just found them and decided to upload them to share. Most of these lost sketches are the first time my generation gets to see them!
This was one of the regular sketches from the Carol Burnett show that was airing back in the late 60's and 70's. I remember this one in particular with Eunice banging her head into the refrigerator screaming "Oh, this is a BLACK DAY, a BLACK DAY..."
I love that Vicki Lawrence is in her EARLY 20s here... the talent that was brought out of her at such a tender age... Amazing. I applaud Carol for SEEING that spark in her at 17 yrs old!!! They're both simply genius! ❤❤
@@wilykat that's just amazing! Thank u for the info, I knew she was very young. I didn't know Carol was preg at the time, how funny! It was destined to be.... 🥀🌹❤️
@@ColleenDaumen2 Indeed it was. Out of Carol's own mouth she said that when she saw the newspaper clipping of Vicki, it was like looking at a younger version of herself.
Dang ! She said “ I wish I never brought you home from the hospital ! “ Only this show can make me laugh at that. Oh yeah and Eunice was just too jealous. 🤣
OMG I just howled through this Family skit - they are all perfect for the characters they're playing, and they must have had the greatest writers alive!! How I wish the Carol Burnett Show was still on, we'd all have something to actually enjoy on tv!!
Forty five years later and Vicki Lawrence can still play Mama and would still look like someone impersonating an old woman and she’s actually now older than Mama. Lol
This is some of the funniest stuff that ever hit the TV screen! Vickie, Carol, Harvey and Tim made magic with this “family” theme. Hilarious!!! It’s not a wonder this became a sit-com. They don’t come funnier than Vickie Lawrence-Shultz. Wish Carol, Harvey and Tim would have permanently joined the cast on the TV series “Mama’s Family” when it first aired. The show would have ruled the airwaves into eternity!
Cuz of the point of the show/premise. Their reactions are half the laughs. Besides, Eunice was right, Mama wasn't being her true self. And that can feel like a fuck you from a loved one, (for those who can relate know what I mean). Plus, what end result do you expect from "Mama's Family". Which is kind of the first thing I said.
What was Eunice thinking? If Thelma and Willie got married, and Eunice was more nice to him he would've helped her out with her "show-biz career", maybe she would write her own play ( with herself starring in it) for that Pepperpot Playhouse!
Ikr ~ she should’ve known Eunice would throw a jealous fit 😂 ~ these crack me up so much but omg Eunice in real life would not have any friends ~ I saw one where her husband left her and it was kinda sad but I was like it’s about time cuz she treats him like crap 😂
They offered The Carol Burnett Show on DVD a few years ago and I ordered it. I got a DVD set which they claimed was every episode it wasn't but at least I have a lot of them. For the price I paid I didn't complain since it wasn't that bad compared to other sets I have.
These skits and the Mrs. Wiggins skits are the best of the show. I wish they would put out a dvd set of just these. So much of the show was just so-so. These are the Honeymooners of this variety show.
"Imogene passed away, God bless her soul - I guess" - How I love Vicki and Carol in these roles! I actually watched "Mama's Family" for years when I was younger and never knew it all originated on Carol Burnett's show, why wasn't IT on reruns back then?
Now that would be great to have some of the old variety shows like The Carol Burnett Show on re-runs. I have a list of several of my favorites I used to watch. Hey Cablevision people, this is a great idea for a new channel.
Amen. Hollyweird is on the decline from their sexual behaviour to the reality crap they call entertainment. Let's not forget their self congratulatory awards shows which are downright ridiculous and embarrassing.
Did you notice that the sound effect was slightly off que on the last time Eunice struck her head against the fridge? It's noticeable if you watch it a few times.
I sure miss these family sketches. I often wonder who on the Carol Burnett show came up with the concept for these family sketches. The writers were pure genius.
I think the only episode she wore something else in was the one where they were all getting ready to go to Aunt Mae's funeral. Eunice wore black in that one.
@@andos2923 I think this was one of the few times I sided with Mama lol Mama was in the role Eunice is usually in in this sketch and Eunice was acting more like Mama usually acts
Yeah, even that prostitute in "Cellmates" said it. She said that she thought they were the same person: "I won't love you unless you love me!" She also added, "Now don't you think it's about time you two grew up?"
CrazySexyCoolmeisha funny I always thought she was jealous of having mama taken away from her. Like if mama left town or something Eunice would be all alone.
My mom and I used to watch the Carol Burnett show every Saturday night. Mama's family skits were our favorite. The talent was unreal. Those were the days. I miss those days and I miss my mother. What a masterpiece of down home Americana.....
Carol, Harvey and Vicky are also amazing actors, as usual! It's good to see special guest star, William Conrad (Cannon, Gunsmoke - TV Shows), doing this small bit. Great actor as well! Thank you for sharing!
Who ever thought of these characters was genius Eunice, momma, and Ed are very well played bravo 👏 so funny. Their voices, facial expressions, the ward robe all good 👍, love to watch them!! 😂
It was the BEST when it was on Carol Burnett Show....lost all its "grit and realness" when it went to the sitcom Mama's Family. NOTHING like this awesome ensemble cast!!! Nothing can touch this greatness right here!!!!
Yes, Mama's Family was not up to the standard of these sketches, and I noticed right away in the first episode that Mama's voice was different in the series from what it was in these sketches. In Mama's Family she sounded more like a caricature than a character.
The character was purposefully toned down at the suggestion of Korman to make mama less one-dimensional and more likeable since she was carrying the show.
And I’m guessing the voice change may have had to do with Lawrence herself. That screaming tone is one thing to do for 10 minutes once a week on a live show, but to use it for the amount of hours it took to shoot a weekly sitcoms? Just guessing, but I bet it hurt!
They make me laugh! 😀 It was so well written and performed. I saw Carol on Broadway in "Moon Over Buffalo". I saw her at Carnegie Hall for a tribute to her. Vicki, Tim and Lyle were all there! She did her Tarzan yell and it echoed throughout the Hall. Other stars were there too. I saw Maggie on Broadway in "Lettice and Loveage". It was quite funny and well enacted. Such happy memories of seeing them all and watched them with my Mom on television! 😀😁😁🌟
love MAMA'S FAMILY. watch reruns of it on ME TV in NY. it was on 6 years and I never get tired of seeing it. it brightens my day. TY for posting The Family from the Carol Burnett Show. She is on ME TV too every nite.
Thank you for these great episodes! It is the middle of the Coronavirus / COVID-19 Pandemic. Watching these videos brings much needed brightness and laughter. I love this show!
This was definitely one of the best family sketches. The whole "wake up and smell the coffee" bit in the kitchen was priceless. Whenever they show the best clips from the show, that one is frequently shown.
I'm only 41, so, this was before my time, but, 2 of THE FUNNIEST WOMEN ON TV EVER, WAS CAROL BURNETT & VICKI LAWRENCE. THE SKIT WHEN THEY'RE PLAYING SORRY IS MY FAVORITE. LOL. WHEN CAROL MAKES THE FACE & HER VOICE GETS LOWER ALWAYS CRACKS ME UP!!
Mama's Beau was played by William Conrad, who was one of the top radio actors ever. He starred in Gunsmoke for years and was on every show in the golden age of radio. Such a dynamic voice!
I first became familiar with him as Frank Cannon when I first started watching his other TV show "Cannon". Funny that I have been watching "Gunsmoke" from time to time and never noticed him. I just do not remember who he played on that show. I will be looking that up.
My dad loved these shows, he was without his kids while they were growing up. It gave him a look at the future of a dysfunctional family(i think) of yet to come. .... It gave him a laugh (Thank God) Clever people saw this coming, that is all I can say! I can definitely laugh now! People really think that all families are not dysfunctional, sorry dad we are all dysfunctional in one way or another. Love you dad!!! I always did and always will!!! Just knowing my dad just watching these shows could give me a laugh from the grave now! Wow!! To all of our fathers who could really makes us laugh!😂❤
