I purchased this amp. Its crazy that even the highest gain settings are completely quiet. No hiss or hum anywhere. The tones are to die for. It matches perfect with my Les Paul . Sweet cleans and enough overdrive to do anything from Blues to classic rock. The attenuator is icing on the cake. I cant say enough good things about it. This blows his previous version out of the water and most every other amp I ever had.
@@johnc.martin9347 Might need to check your power supply and signal pathway through and through. Connectors, cables, wiring, soldering, discreet components, etc. A small impedance mismatch can cause noise. Make sure the tubes are well-seated. Or if you can't isolate it on your side, send it back for evaluation? Possible a component went bad or something came loose in shipment?
Aww Man, I just wanted this to go on all night! Mr Gene Jr you are without question the consummate professional, delivering the very best equipment demos and musical experiences on the interwebs. Thank you kindly sir!
Mark, thank you for the listen and thank you for such an AWESOME and generous compliment! That really made my day! Really appreciate it! All the best - RG
Rodney, you are a true treasure. Enjoyed your chops and the demo. I was fortunate enough to get to play a Mercury V yesterday and you did the amp justice sir!
Thanks! l this is probably the BEST VIDEO I'VE SEEN ON U-TUBE--Great playing and man, what a way to show off that little Mercury V amp--it's unbelievable.
Next time I'm in Austin I'm hunting you down man. You are simply one of those guys. Great playing with a no BS vibe. And, you invoked a pretty damn good Paul Kossoff style and tone when you wanted it, kudos.
I just love Rodney Gene Jr. ! Such a tasteful player ! I also owe you one Rodney . My main two drive pedals on my Board = Ethos TWE- 1 and Fully Loaded Ethos Overdrive with HRM option. Got both after seeing your Demos on these Gems !
Rodney, WOW! This video convinced me to place my order for a Mercury V. Thank you so much for taking the time to demo so many different guitars and styles in a professional manner. Well done sir!
Rodney.....if I had your talent I would travel the country in a nice motorhome and earn a living doing guitar and amp demos for any manufacturer that wanted to present their products in the best possible light. In my humble little opinion about 90% of You Tube demos are simply unlistenable. Keep these videos coming....they are terrific.
@@RodneyGeneJunior I speak the truth.....most of the time anyway. Seriously, those folks at the NAMM SHOW are in dire need of a real player like yourself to showcase their guitars and amps. Most demos are really bad, just horrible.
One of the best demos I've ever seen. Lots of tasty playing on different guitars and amp settings with no Blah Blah. Love it. The problem is now I have to figure out how to come up with the money for this thing. Maybe I could eat cat food for a couple of months ?
Beautiful sounding amp. Excellent guitar work putting it through its paces. You are a hell-of-a good guitar picker!! This in my kind of channel...now subbed!
Great playing and great variety of tones, I wish we could have seen more knob twisting and heard the difference in real time. I really like hearing this amp in another review by Lance Keltner, you get to hear it sound a little more lively and hear the gainier side when pushed, and the different wattage sounds. Beautiful sounding amp either way. Nice playing. Almost too perfect, lol. Sometimes you want to hear an average Joe guitarist do one of these, and hear it in the room as opposed to being miked up & going through expensive audio equipment.
Thank you, I appreciate the good words! I understand. Lance and I often demo Carr amps back to back (it’s the same amp) as we both live here in Austin. We all do what we can to contribute to the multiple approaches and examples and cover as much ground as possible between us all. I feel that ‘live’ cell phone or similar style videos have value but really cheat you out of the amps subtleties, nuances, and spirit. It makes all gear sound identical and truncated. I also like to remove the room contribution as all amps sound VASTLY different depending on room. Plus I appreciate ensemble examples as that is how I want to hear an amp as I do not play alone on stage. When demoing an amp alone, the settings are very different. Bottom line, all demos are incomplete and I just hope to add some of the value.
@@RodneyGeneJunior You are absolutely right, every room is different, and cellphone mics can really ruin a good sound. I find that sometimes people who use those overload the mic's capacity and you don't get the full spectrum, just like listening to music & reviews on your phone or devices don't convey the quality of the recording of the amp. I don't know what you ran that through, so I can't say it was too much or too little, but some reviewers def overdue it and you're not hearing the "real" sound coming out of the speaker, and the cab. I appreciate the response Rodney, it's nice to be able to communicate with your peers & those who musicians you really look up to & respect. I'm going to subscribe & listen to a lot more of you sir, your playing is very inspiring, and your reviews intelligent & thought provoking. I really like the semi-new wave of guys like you, Lance, Pete Thorn, and Shawn Tubbs who are great players who participate in demoing & reviewing the myriad of gear out there. Thanks very much for your personal & quick response. Sorry for the long ramble! Lol. I like to talk shop.
Man, you make each amp sound better than the last! Excellent! Thanks for the demos on all the Carr amps. I am currently shopping for one, how do you think the Rambler compares to the Sportsman or the Mercury. I just play at home and do small bar gigs with minimal pedals. Country, blues, jazzy funk stuff - a lot like you!
Thank you! Really appreciate the listen and the great comments! That is a big question with so many variables - but the easiest answer is: If you get your breakup from pedals and you play mostly with single coils - Rambler. If you want to gig with/play with classic amp slightly flubby breakup w/ singles or Humbuckers - Sportsman (Master Vol). For Marshall crunch and british semi-cleans tone at ANY volume - Mercury. My amp of choice is the Impala.
Love your playing! Glad I found your channel. All of these Carr demos you've done sound great, but I was wondering if you had a personal favorite? I came looking for Mercury V demos, and wound up watching all of the ones you've done for them. Now I'm confused!haha
Thanks Glen, appreciate the listen and cool comment! Tough question, beyond tough as these amps are voiced uniquely. My personal favorite, is more pragmatic than tone based. Carr Impala 1x12 (My first and most used Carr I have) Big sound (44 watts), Bassman vibe that takes pedals well. I always know what to expect. Not very ‘exciting’ initially (Meaning a bit slower response), but highly pleasing how it sits in the live mix. For instant ‘wow’ factor the Rambler. I played 90+ shows with my Carr Rambler during a single year playing modern and classic country. It was stellar gig after gig - Deluxe Reverb vibe with deeper cleans and such a nice feel. If I HAD to choose with a single Carr amp for all my gigs/needs, it would the Sportsman (The 1x12 version) Handles humbuckers and singles equally well, master volume, great response and takes pedals exceptionally. And lastly - For pure fun..rock n roll, Zep, AC/DC, Classic Rock: the now discontinued Carr Lincoln. It is still on my bucket list! Honestly, Steves amps are so top shelf you cnnot choose wrong, it is evident when you plug in! Enjoy the journey! RG
AWESOME!!! I play death and thrash metal and absolutely love this demo! What was that blue Les Paul style axe with the Charlie Christian neck pup? WOW! Thanks...
Thank you Fovea for the great post and listen! I sincerely appreciate it! That is a Dan Dunham Plankton - Great builder, great guy! And really unique guitars! www.dandunhamguitars.com/Dan_Dunham_Guitars/planktons.html Keep rockin! RG
Thank you Rossco! Yes sir, appreciate it! For some hot country, rockabilly, gypsy jazz swing check out last years California Gypsy! Several of my friends are guests (we do a lot of guitar duets) T.K. Smith, Chris Cassello, Redd Volkaert, RJ Ronquillo, Dave Biller, Tommy Harkenrider and a few others. It’s a cool mix! Cheers! love the tones, and your playing Rodney, but to be honest, the backing tracks were distracting...it would be great to see a few 'direct from the amp' tones from you without the background fluff the whole time. this amp however is a beast!
Thanks for the comment and the listen, I sincerely appreciate it. I understand where you are coming from for sure. As a producer I always demo in context of my own situation. Context is key to me. Dozens of examples of raw Merc V amp tones. Speaking only for myself, without context, it loses relevance as it is easy to get an amp to sound great alone. You don;t see too many cats on stage alone with their gear, least not around here. Thanks again and keep rockin man!
@@RodneyGeneJunior fair call, and I totally understand what you mean...the difference to me between the slew of below-average RU-vid examples and a couple from you, are that yours would've actually been worth listening to. :) context is awesome and an important side of the amp to show, to me though, just a couple of 'raw' tones would've been an excellent addition to your great video. cheers man!
Cheers, that's Bowie Rebel Rebel and and original. Other than Bowie and Ghost Riders, these are original jam segments to show the character of the amp. Thanks for the listen!
I don't think you can get a better amplifier than a Carr regardless of how much you pay, I mean the leather handle is even top notch quality and their customer service is very good.
Thank you, classic Stan Jones - Not my genius! My instrumental version of Ghost Riders In the Sky with a generous amount of tremolo! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ka90ERKLTJQ.html
I have been thinking the same thing! I came here looking at the Mercury V, but then watched a few other of his other Carr videos, now I'm not sure which one to buy. His Sportsman demo is great too!
Cheers Mike, thanks for the listen and comment! Agreed! Carr dealers are everywhere - my personal recommended shop is SoundPure - super folks. These amps are about $2500 - $2700 out the door. Worth twice that! RG
I would be cool with it if it were. I personally don''t see it or hear it. 1/2 the power, very different circuit style layout and design, 6L6 tubes (not EL84) switchable attenuator, original tone stack and certainly different tonal palette when I played it. Which part (for you) is the AC30 copy?
