Your cad plating is very nice. That carb looks very nice. As someone who has rebuilt hundreds of carbs I appreciate your quality work. Take care.

Thanks so much for the thorough explanation and demo. You confirmed my suspicion that I had a clogged accelerator pump circuit on a Carter AVS. Now to get it clear :)

You're exactly right with doing your homework. I found out the hard way the kit i had for my 4429 avs came with a 3/4 accelerator pump when i needed 11/16. The leather cup binded in the bore and didn't give the shot of gas i needed when cracking the throttle under load. That part cost me getting my car finished in time for a major show after completing a full engine rebuild/restoration. Very good advice.

To everyone out there. If you want your carb to look and work properly give this guy a call. I was going to try and plate my own parts until I looked at all the cost involved. I can say 1 thing ! Screw that I sent my carbs to Harold and what I received back was a new carburetor . I swear it just came from the factory and the price was what I thought cheap compared to what you had to do to get the same results. If you think about all your labor not only taking it all apart but then dealing with all the chemicals if you don't screw it up ! He is cheap !! He's honest and straight forward and that is hard to come by today. I was going to have a guy in NY rebuild my carb for my 68 Camaro and he wanted 3 times more then this guy so do yourself a favor and write him, call him or send it by a pigeon if you have to . You won't go wrong .

great video. I feel connected to someone who values these objects. I had the wrong accelerator pump, too, and had to order another. Also my kit had parts that did not even go with this carburetor. Probably not made in the USA.

I just wanted to say I've watched most of your videos and wow, you are an expert.master of carburation. Thanks ...now all I have to do is get a mill right machine on the cheap ..very cheap.and win the lottery .to make me a tank for zink plating, and call caswell to get all the other stuff I'll need ...lol....Dennis Carb....I also make displays to show a dirty carb to clean carb.and cut,a ways to show what's inside.

Excellent vid describing the theory and operation of the accelerator pump system on the Carter AFB. The AVS design is very similar. I have purchased several kits from Mike's Carburetor without issue and agree that you get what you pay for. In todays E-bay world, everyone is looking for the low cost option and trust me, its not all about cost. Quality kits will actually save $ over time. Have you see carbs with a check ball on top of the pintle? Was wondering if that was per design or if a previous rebuild mistakenly added the ball.

Thank you! I'm rebuilding a Carter 4331 for a 67' Buick LeSabre. The carb was so corroded and one of the float post broke on one side. I managed to drill a hole and wrap some wire to hold the top of the post to the base. Sounds like a hack and it is, lol. Is there a metal on metal adhesive that can withstand the fuel in the float bowl? If so please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Do you know what the screw in the front with the spring on it is for? The big one in the center not the two smaller ones.

Do you ever do custom throttle linkages on these to eliminates slop?

Hi there, I have a 66 Lincoln Continental with what I believe it’s a Carter AFB what is the cost to rebuild that carburetor and shipping cost. Thank you!

With that check weight cut down the carb could go rich when you don't want it too.

Does it have to be a checking ball in the valve? Im rebuilding a carter AFB for a 1959 Lincoln 430 and I cant see that there is a ball in the valve.

Mr Demes, seems like you know your stuff. I have been watching your vids for a while. I have a Carter Q-jet 7043202. I pulled the vacuum break assy. off without taking any pictures.when a friend offered to ultrasonic clean it for me. I am having trouble getting the fast idle spring back in properly. Could you please post a photo or an exploded diagram or an explanation of how that assy. goes back together? Additionally, I ordered a kit from Mike's giving the number to the lady on the phone. When I got the kit, my carburetor number was not on the data sheet so I called her back to ask for the float height setting. She stated 1/4" so I hope that's right. I have been using this quadrajet on a modified application for nearly 20 years off and on and I let it sit too long and caused some of the pieces to freeze up so I am trying to rebuild it. Pretty overwhelming stuff and I have a mechanical apptitude so it shouldn't be so tough. You make it all look so easy. I expect you have been doing it for quite a while. Thank you for any help, Rick

Why do some accelerator pump plungers have a check valve in them and some don't? The first one (you can see it at 4:43 on the timer) shown in this video has a check valve and the second one (at 5:23 on the timer) doesn't. It would seem that a system that has an inlet ball check valve, as was shown at the very beginning of the video, would not need one.

The check ball goes to a hole on the top side of the accelerator pump. This is for top filling the accelerator well below the pump. I see this on the smaller diameter pumps. I think they made them to assist the fill. The large pump has a lot more surface area to fill the well from the check valve only. This is just my theory. You are the first person to ever ask me that question. Attention to detail is what makes a successful rebuild.

@@backnine thanks for the reply... and the excellent video. I have a 63 Imperial with a Carter 3256SA. The pump plunger is 3/4" in diameter and it has the check ball in it. The number on the plunger is C64-258A. I believe it's original but I'm not 100% sure of that. I bought a new pump plunger on eBay that said it would fit a Carter 3256 but when it arrived it was 11/16" in diameter. I did not measure the old one first. I understand that the A suffix means it's a first revision of the design. I wonder if this means the 3256 without the A suffix has an 11/16" plunger and the model with the A suffix has the 3/4" plunger? If I had watched your video before I bought the plunger I would have followed your excellent advice and dismantled the carb and measured the plunger before ordering it. But when I saw the 3256 listed I thought all would be good. Live and learn.

@@SonOfMrGreengenes I keep spares of different sizes. Sometimes I receive kits that will have wrong size pump even though kit states pump size. Just a mistake someone made packing them. I have erasers on all my pencils.
