IM NOT A CARBURETOR EXPERT BUT IVE BEEN REBUILDING THESE AND DRIVING THEM ON CARS FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS without any problems
carburetor is an aftermarket CARTER AFB COMPETITION series 750 CFM MANUAL CHOKE probably purchased in the early 1990s
just an idea on how to rebuild or put a kit in your edelbrock or carter carburetor
this carb is going straight on the car after this rebuild
I MAKE THESE VIDEOS FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO IDEA OR ARE WONDERING ABOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS OF REBUILDING A CARB

Chris Thank you so much for this video, I watched as I rebuilt my carter it had been in my shop for years and it works great. The video is clear and easy to understand which is good as it was my first time rebuilding a carburetor.

thank you for this video, i found out exactly what i needed. while cleaning my carburetor the bb and the brass weight came out and i had no idea where they went so thanks for this video

Good video man. I've rebuilt many Holley carbs but just bought a truck with an Edelbrock that's been sitting awhile so it needs a rebuild for sure.

Great video, bud. It gets old always watching these "experts" how to videos and how their way is the only way it should be done blah blah blah. Thanks for keeping it real and I feel confident enough to tackle my 1405 on my 302 f100 that I just bought. i Worked on fuel injected cars for the past 15 years and rebuilt countless small engine carbs but never tinkered with a car carb.

just make sure you soak it in the chem dip and blow the passages out those are actually the most important..see carb run at end of cam break in part 2

The literature included with the rebuild kit does say to only use one large screen or the two smaller screens. Not both. Not nit picking just though you should know. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Hi.. I really need your help... I have an edelbrok 1406 and a I have calibration kit, I would like to know the correct order of the primary and secundary jets because I have a problem when I accelerate the car, the secundary jets do not respond and the car does not run, and I would like to know the metering jets, the metering rods and springs to calibrate it in the best way.. I´m from Venezuela I hope you can undertand me! Thanks a lot!

I followed this vid and rebuild my 1405Put carb on new performer intake put gaskit on timed it out set idle everything man --I put in drive and it dies even if I Advance My timing it still dies driving me crazy any suggestions ?? Does jump a little bit here and there like there is a vacuum leak somewhere when in carb ??

+WastedSpinhead mine was doing that too, went to the speed shop and they told me to get a spring kit for the metering rods, 4 sets of color coded springs with a chart on the back of the package, started with the heavy springs and kept swapping them out with lighter spring until it worked

when adjusting floats you need to have gasket in place when taking measurements

the only reason it says to adjust with the gasket is because if you don’t you have to take the floats back off to get the gasket on.. it doesn’t effect the float adjustment in any way..

Unless i'm mistaken, when you check the floats you're supposed to have the gasket on the top piece first THEN check for 7/16th gap

yes you are.. but it doesnt matter if you dont use the gasket...

@@chriscraft77022 It does matter if you want to get the float height set to the value that Edelbrock specify! Having said that these carbs suffer from a rich bog when braking hard (and cornering hard). If you set the float height about 3mm higher than specified (at around 14mm) it will reduce the fuel height which helps stop the rich bog. The reduced fuel height has very little affect on the carbs other fuel circuits. If the carb does not sit level on the engine using a wedge plate also helps.

@@sidecarbod1441 the rich bog when the car shakes is because the damn fuel runs out of the bowls and the only place it can go by design is down to the intake.. nothing to do with float adjustment.. ive been running them for 15 years on all my cars.. i did finally make the switch to holley in 2017

the reason for that is because you cant put the gasket on after the floats are installed... it does not matter

You should have ditched the small screen at the seat inlet instead of the bigger screen at the fuel inlet. The reason? If the small fuel inlet screen becomes clogged, you have to take the whole carb back apart to get at it. If the big one got clogged, you simply take off the fuel inlet and clean it out and you don't even have to take the carb off the engine.

Loved the video, but... You marked the measurements on the 1/8 inch markers, not the 1/16 inch marks! So, you gaps are twice what they should be!

Anybody ever have trouble with the accelerator pump seal tearing? I've been through two in the last week since my new rebuild.

I've never worked on a carb before but i would check the bore that the plunger sits it. if it ain't smooth, there's your problem. also, your pump jets might be clogged causing an over pressurization of the plunger seal. just a wild guess

ive built about 20 different carbs in my life and never had that problem.... throw the carb in the trash... it has to be a casting issue

gas smell maybe.. it would evaporate from the fuel bowls maybe... I don't know but ptabably little stuff like that .. maybe a littlr bad gas milage

+Chris Craft so randomly my truck started starving for fuel in 2nd and 3rd gear, idk why, can't recall what I did during the time it started acting weird. but I took it apart and cleaned it out cause damn was it dirty but that didn't fix it, I noticed today that one of the idle screws didn't change the idle when I moved it idk what problems that can cause? and I also didn't take the top half apart, I didn't think there were screens in there so maybe they got stuff in em? I'm ordering a rebuild kit and doing it over. only thing I forgot was that bb and weight thing but that shouldn't be the cause of the starvation of fuel.

If you forget the weight and BB then the vacuum in the carb will cause fuel to continually flow from the accelerator pump, not very good really!

@@chriscraft77022What will actually happen is that the vacuum in the primary venturies will continually 'pull' fuel from the accelerator circuit which means that you engine will run rich. (Fat as you guys call it)

After some research I found that Edelbrock only has one horn gasket for all their square bore carbs. Not sure what the second one is for either now.

I don't know about that. As I said I researched and scrubbed Edelbrock's website and the only gasket they have is the one you used and they say it is used on all their square bore carbs (Marine and Auto). To be honest what I'm trying to find out is the difference between the venting for the street carbs and the venting of the marine carbs. So far I can find no difference. Tower is the same, gaskets are the same. Guess I will have to take apart my 750 marine and compare it to my new 800 (1913) when it shows.

Shiny carb= 750 bucks, rebuild kit=60 bucks , he also said he has had this carb sitting around for awhile. hope that helps
