To avoid breaking a lamp by using pliers to remove it, I used to use a piece of heatshrink tubing. You just pick a size that tightly grips the lamp when you slide it over the top. They made a special set of thin, round-jawed pliers for this, but I never had one handy when a critical lamp failed (usually in a video switcher), so the tubing would get me going quickly.

That button and bulb assembly sure looks like someone though they were being clever in its design! "Clever" of course does not always equal "good idea." I was struck with a feeling of familiarity when I saw the yoke assembly -- the "KV-12" sure seems like something I've seen before on a 2/3" yoke, 40+ years ago. Back then I was in RCA's Advanced Development group & we did build a 3-tube camera with 2/3" Tivicons in Japanese yokes (prototype of the TK-76). Coulda been the same types.

I too have seen the KV-12 yoke in lots of cameras. It seemed to be quite common. The button switch contact and the bulb are in parallel. One end ties to ground and the signal goes out pin 1 of the DIN connector. The bulb is rated for 10V @ 15 mA. A 560Ω half watt resistor in series will let you run the lamp from the 18V supply if you want to. Pressing the button, will force the line low and resistor is the logic pull up. You can buffer this any way you like to activate your particular recording device.

Cool to see the insides of the those old cams. Is the main connector a DIN? What's the working voltage for the camera? Great videos as usual-

Trying to keep it reasonable for the viewer and for the editor. 42 minutes play time, six hours (off and on with interruptions) of editing time. These marathon soldering projects create hours and hours of source material. It consists mainly of deciding what to lose. Not what to keep. I admire people who edit video for a living. It isn't easy.

Really? Thats a cardinal rule? I do it all the time. Never had a problem removing the parts. Good thing I am not Catholic ... no Cardinals coming after me :)
