When I have one that won't turn over, the first thing I do is inspect the battery and wiggle the terminal clamps. Then I use jumper cables to bypass everything between a known good battery and the starter itself. Usually the starter works. I then bypass everything between the battery and the starter solenoid. If that checks out good I use a test light to check for a start signal to the start terminal on the solenoid. Then check for a start signal leaving the key/button switch. Many times this 3-minute method narrows down the possibilities considerably.
Hi Glad you got it fixed I do this stuff for a living, It's amazing how many guys change parts and don't do the diagnosis, then I get called when it's still not right, and find the wires or 1 of 2 battery's is near shot when it's -20 oc or the suns gone behind the clouds L.O.L . I just picked up a JCB bhl for the farm that did the same thing with the starter. 2 weeks ago I went through it and found bad wires and terminals. It starts good now to with no starter or other parts problems. My machine has the Velvet drive shuttle shift like your case. I think if it's the same set up it will have a temp sensor for a light or gauge, the safety you already found, and an oil pressure sensor for a light or gauge. Mines all warning lights no gauges. Thats probably what those extra wires you have are for. Hopefully if you connect them they work and it wasn't disconnected to hide more problems! Thanks for sharing your adventures with the Case. I enjoy watching you guys deal with the same problems and fixes, I have to do on used equipment, I buy to use or for customer repairs.
Thank you. I have had to fix old stuff since I was young. I have video on my dad's old Massey Harris tractor. That is where I learned to work on stuff. You usually had to fix something on these old machines each time before you could use them!! The dash is such a mess on this machine I am not sure I am even going to worry about it. Plus I still have problems with it using antifreeze. Lots to do!
I put a bypass relay on mine and never had the problem again. Case has a fix for it because it is a known problem that has to do with the safety switches drawing current away from the battery when you start it. A brand new battery is fine for a little while and then it happens again. Relay solves everything
Yep remote starter is fried ! I hate working on wiring that goes nowhere because u have to figure out at one time it went somewhere important .:) Good video !!
Thanks for the shout out Mike. Visual inspections were key on this one. The truck wiring project was filmed at many stages and I thought I had down loaded them to the computer...nope. I deleted everything on the camera without confirming it so I lost all that footage. I'm such an idiot sometimes. Can't wait to see you man.
well seeing it turned over looks like it was that wire you replaced or the starter button as you said when power direct to the starter it turns over means the starter is good so money saved there looks like you might need to figure out other wiring issues also with all those loose dead end wires might consider putting protection over the wiring once you figure it all out
Although those wires looked pretty bad and may not have directly contributed to your problem, it's good that you fixed them while you were there. It would have come back down the road and bit you. Good that you didn't have a starter motor issue. So it looks like you had a bad pushbutton. Take care Mike...
yeah well thats why i dont use a remote start tool. i just use a 12 guage solid copper wire to jump solenoids, or maybe possibly a HD metal quality single-pole push button switch. maybe.. like i am with our old school case 580CK backhoe right now(gas 4cyl) i had to pull both the carb and the distrib and install ne wpoints and clean out carb again and finally got it to start running but lack of load acceleration, stumbling now for unknown reason.. cant set dwell on these old prestolite distribs??
The Disgruntled Mechanic was having trouble with loader. Turned out auto lever linkage spring was bummed up. Sidenote I'm bout 40 minutes away from you
Mike the remote start switch was toast. Haha ok we have to test that before we test as well. LOL Sounded like it wanted to start a bit too. The spare wires haha ok we need a wiring diagram i guess - like that exists.
Actually I do have the wiring diagram! Just not sure it is worth it. And I wanted to make sure that neutral safety switch works. Won't want to run it through the pole barn! oh wait...............
no because the starter quit when I was trying to diagnose that so I had to get the starter fixed to continue on to overheating problem! It is a vicious circle for sure!
Wow, looks like a new wiring harness would solve your issues. Glad it isn't the starter. I ran into the same thing yesterday on an '06 Taurus, but unfortunately it was the starter.
I have a late 60's case 580ck with a fuel issue. Pump went bad and has been rebuilt and replaced but I cannot get the tractor to start. I have confirmed that the tractor is timed correctly to the fuel pump, and that fuel is reaching the injectors (when the fuel lines are cracked and the machine is cranked there are spurts of fuel at the injector) but no fuel is apparently getting to the cylinders, or somehow not in the correct time. Tractor will fire on ether. A neighbor suggested that there is a key on the pump shaft that could be bent or broken/missing. does anyone have any insight on this problem that can help guide me on this issue. I've got a long list of chores for this machine and really need it to be more than a lawn ornament.
Looked like in the beginning that your push button was separating when you were unhooking the wire from it. May want to change that also. That remote looks like a Bosch. If it is they are complete junk. I went through 4 or 5 of them through warranty then finally bought another brand.
Helllo Mike.....What I alway do is take a booster cable from the positive direct to the starter on these machine and if it turns over U eliminated the most expensive part or just jump starter solenoid to the main on the starter....my way but not the only way......AND use any seize on that ground to chassis and on the bat terminal or cupper sheild it the best of the oxidize shit and corrosion
I use them on one property to do work that I need done. I need to move a big amount dirt around my pole barn. I have a skid steer loader that works about the same as this back hoe. haha! I do have a few videos of me trying to run them on youtube.
I have a 580c and a D and it jest so happened I can use the D's key for my C. as far as starting. on older machines there's many keys that can turn the key switch on. I also was able to use my motorcycle key. than you simply use the push button start.
