Hi things are so expensive here too in the Uk. We have things like Olio food waste app of food that comes from supermarkets that are past best before for free. We have too good to go as well for things like cafes like Costa small charge for a bag of short dated food.
That’s so great to stop food waste. We have just got a similar app here too where local cafes can put their leftover food for the day on the app for discounted prices and people can buy through the app and go pick it up. Such a great way for cafes to minimise waste and still generate a little income for them and people love buying discounted food! I wish supermarkets here would start doing something similar too with their leftover produce instead of throwing it away
Oh nice!! I enjoy gardening, I find it so hard to get motivated gardening in winter when it’s cold so I usually live off my frozen harvests from the last summer through winter and then start gardening again around September 😊🥰
If you get a greenhouse that may help you with some year round garden. I live in a zone 3-4 so theres no chance for me but good luck with your garden, hope it saves you tons!!
A greenhouse is my dream!!! I’m desperate to get one. We could be moving house in the next year or two though so I’m waiting to get one until we move. Hopefully we find a home that already has one 😍
I feel you on the food. I will try doing some of the planters with lettuce and tomatoes in spring , but we don't own the house so I'm not keen to make major changes to the garden, still every little helps. You're looking for savings challenges? Reach out via my shop and I'll sort you out chick - I've been a little behind on photographing and listing but I have a bunch in the wings!
Hi Jana it's been too long. Food prices are crazy. Daniel won't even let me do the shopping or go into food shops now as I worry so much. We try not to use the car if it's somewhere close. In Sept Ben will be able to walk to his new big school. At the moment we drive him to nursery each morning. I've only tried growing a few herbs for the mud kitchen and even they wasn't a success. The only thing I can grow are weeds 😂. We need to think about getting a new school uniform and some of it has labels.
I know it’s been so long since I last posted. I’m so useless at pulling my camera out these days! I need to get better at remembering! That’s so good you don’t use your car often! I wish I could walk more but our house is too far away from the shops and kids school so we drive everywhere unfortunately. Everything is so expensive 😭 how’s your home going?! ♥️
@@Janaleigh the house is going OK. We haven't done many big jobs that need to be done as the costs from workmen and costs are far too expensive. We're still juggling paying utility bills at the moment and it's summer here so no heating needed. School uniform will cost a but as it has to be bought online with branded badges etc on. We also made the mistake of buying navy blue shoes and they've said they should be black - which sucks as he finds the brand comfortable. We're probably not going to get a holiday away to be honest, maybe a few days at the coast. It sucks as in March I found out I have breast cancer, so I've just had surgery and been told I won't be able to work this year on treatment. Not great when we really need a second income. You've been incredibly busy being a super mum with all your little ones and the family. Much respect Jana, you're inspiring that you can even get one video out with juggling everything. They have huge waiting lists for allotments over here and they cost a lot per year. I would just worry that nothing would grow for me. Our back garden isn't huge, so now we've put a large slide, mud kitchen, water table and wall in there and a small little Tikes play house it's pretty packed. No room for veggies. Stay safe x
Oh yes I love both their challenges! I need to hit up Nin to see if she can make up some custom challenges as I’m after specific ones, carocash has the ones I’m after but the shipping to Nz is ALOT so I can’t bring myself to order 🙈
I’m too lazy for that option 🤣🤣 I don’t have a printer or laminator so I’d have to go into a shop to get it done but between laziness and my social anxiety talking to a shop person I’m like… let’s just take the easy option and get it delivered to my doorstep instead 😝
Hi Jana, I’d love to know how you manage your other bills, (such as utilities or car expenses) do you do sinking funds within your bank account too? I am trying to figure out some different ways to manage our finances (and get my husband more involved!) Thanks ☺️
Thanks for sharing , love your videos, so can you explain so kids envelope it’s like for their toys or their clothes ? And household is for what cleaning bits ? Thanks
Thanks so much! Absolutely, so the Kids fun envelope is basically to take them somewhere fun like the pool, to see a movie, an indoor play ground or sometimes we might use it to buy them ice cream and go sit at the beach to eat it.. it’s just their fun envelope. The household envelope is for general things we might need.. a kitchen item, bath towels, pillows, sheets, blankets, clothing for the kids, toys, soil for the garden, house paint, batteries, lightbulbs, essential oils, Castile soap, plants, decor etc (everything except for things for Dane and I.. our clothes, my makeup etc comes from our own envelopes). Cleaning products like laundry detergent, dishwasher tabs and dishwashing liquid all come out of our groceries budget as they all come from the supermarket but all other cleaners I make myself :) Thanks for your questions!!! ♥️
I haven’t no. But she’s from the states hey? I need to order from Nz cause I need physical copies. I don’t have a printer or laminator so it’s easier if I order physical ones but shipping is too expensive outside of NZ. Thank you for watching! ♥️
Food prices and the cost of living is definitely ever increasing and the budget can only be expected to stretch so far. Is cash still readily accepted by most shops in New Zealand? If you go to the bank do they have cash or is the only way to access cash via the ATM?
Yes cash is still used in most shops here, the only shop I’ve come across that doesn’t take cash is one of our local op shops but everywhere else I have been takes it and yes banks here still have cash. I usually go into the bank to get my cash out instead of the machines cause then I can get the smaller notes too ($5s and $10s). I know one day we will be a cashless society.. it makes me sad to think about it, I enjoy using cash for purchases. I tend to spend a lot more when ive got an eftpos card instead 😅
