Casio G-Shock Carbon Core Guard - Watchmaker Review 

I came across this watch almost by accident about a week ago and was blown away by its capabilities at such a price point; great to see a review by an actual watchmaker on what most people consider a 'normal' watch. Thank you!

I enjoy your reviews and you are very thorough on every video. I’ve added a few Casios to my collection and enjoy them all. My Favorite is a Pro Trek 5365 Module Model PRW-S6000Y Which is a “high end” Casio. I have a 14 Kt Solid Gold Bulova Accutron I purchased in 1968 (still in high school) with 214 Tuning fork movement. I changed the Battery in it a few weeks ago! Still very accurate. I worked at Carl’s Diamond Brokerage and we Carried Bulova, Longines, Omega, Rado, Rolex, Wittnauer and few others. I love fine Watches. I became acquainted with several Watchmakers and our Watchmaker could actually engineer & build parts! He was German and I learned a great deal from him Especially that a watch needed to be serviced! There is a lubricant that is advertised as a “pure synthetic” that doesn’t dry up or leave a residue like the oils we used to use. I know the new oils are synthetics extending service intervals. This product is called Liquid Bearings. I want to try. I used it to lube my guns and An antique clock. What do you think about using in watches?

I now have 2 GA2000’s. My favorite is the all-white version, which has positive LCD displays. Both my GA2000’s also have solid, lumed hands, which I prefer over skeletonized hands.

I've got a 1984 G Shock from los Angeles. In the advert they strapped it to a hockey puck and whacked it around! Alas it's thrashed nevertheless! All the rubber surround has fallen off but it still goes and it brings back fond memories.

Great review, still have one of the original ones which have the metal case throughout, encased in plastic resin outer.

Thank you for the review just got mine an hour ago and this vid helped me set it up. I got the blue one with white full luminescent hands. You are right about a specific angle needed for viewing the digital display. BTW I think the skeleton hands are cool and available on just 2 colors.

I'm on a bit of of a gshock obsession at the moment. Just bought a couple of solar atomic versions for about £70 each and now ordered the black version of this carbon core today for £70. I'm not a huge quartz fan but gshocks offer something a bit different with loads of functionality. You mention durability of the movement. I have an old stainless steel gshock that's coming up to about 20 years old and has been running non stop throughout that period, it still works perfectly.

Just bought this one ,love it! Took me an age to get the hands in the right place ,not used to watches without a crown lol . P.s I have to press the light to see the sub dials but not a deal breaker for me .It looks so damn good .

Hi Richard. I have a G Shock in my collection not your model but I do find it difficult to see in poor light. Just added a Graf Zeplin to my ever increasing collection. I am loving it but being a big Seiko and Vostok fan I was amazed to see the second hand actually lines up with the dial haha. Great Video as usual. Take Care. Darren.

Great review as always, I have a question about that water found between that outer shell and the metal caseback, if that was salt water and left to dry on it's own, do you think it would start to corrode the metal caseback? I'm not sure what grade of stainless they use but salt water is hard on even the best stainless dive watches and knives.

Another good video.Comparing old to new? Casio are cutting edge and very much here and now just as the older timepieces you included were at their time. Design is significant as well as well as the internals. Things change? Cheer from a late middle age guy that still has his finger on the pulse albeit grey haired and faded blue eyes! Cheers.

That diagram on the battery actually indicates to short the shield to the 'AC' pad on the circuit board. Look closely for the indicated location (it's labeled with a 'AC') stamped on the shield.

The seal on Casio G-Shock is the closest I have seen to a Vostok. Pressure on the case back will tighten the seal.

I have just bought the White Virsion of this watch It looks good it was for my holidays instead of my Black g shock but with the coronavires it looks Unlikely I will be going this year

I love my g-shock as much as my mechanicals. I just love wearing a watch that takes a beating when I'm working without worrying if its gonma break. No matter how good a mechanical watch is, it will never be as cheap and durable as a g-shock. Even the navy seals had to replace their rolex's with g-shocks cause they are tougher, have more features and easier to replace.

Windsor! :-) Did you visit the castle, Richard? I believe I'm right in saying that Thomas Mudge's first lever escapement watch is on permanent display. Which is hardly germane to the matter in hand. To my mind this G-Shock has some legibility issues, but that's not to say that I don't like it and approve of the brand in general. On the contrary: a really tough watch at an affordable price has to be a good thing. Unsurprisingly it was the Difor which really caught my attention in this video, though.

It would be really interesting to watch your analysis and opinion about a G Shock MrG that is on the highest top of G-SHOCK line

Enjoyed the review. I like the new CC Guard G-shocks, they're a fresh look compared to standard resin. I have four Gs but none of the new CC Guard. I think the lifespan of this watch is going to be more than 5/7 years. I agree with other commenter that a Master of G should be reviewed some day.

See if you can get ahold of one of the new GA-2100s, aka "The Casioak". They're selling out everywhere and it's one of the thinnest G-Shocks out so far.

Was hunting for a new watch and saw this on Casio site. Liked the looks. Chunky, but still low profile. Like the GWRB1000. Shame no SOLAR. No lum on analogue watch. But still interested. :(

I know all G-Shocks pretty much have an Auto-Light feature which when enabled, turns on the light when flipped towards the wearer. Just didn't see you mention it :)

Lume depends on what model of G-Shock Gravity masters, the basic GAS-100-1adr I have has good enough lume to last the night and still be legible. Its also Tough Solar meaning it keeps it self charged up. Anyway, Quartz or mechanical I like em all I specifically like G-Shock because of how damn tough they are.

What is a "bespoke" gasket? What other kinds of gaskets are there?

By the way but you may find that the screws are JIS not Philips. I have bought JIS screwdrivers to use on my G-Shocks.

I got one for 50 quid so really can't complain, only dislike is the strap, far from keen on it, but otherwise, it aint bad at all. Still prefer my mechanical watches though.

Are you sure the movement is going to be that short-lived? Because it doesn't move that much at all, its not moving all the time/every second like traditional watches.. the minute hand moves only once every 20 seconds..

this is not a high end g-shocks..so for you to give those ratings to it is so remarkable.. :)

There's an interesting video on the internet that shows the Casio G-Shock production facility in Japan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C1wrXF1Tc_I.html They have state-of-the-art watchmaking facilities there that is reflected in the results of your test video here. Casio also treats its customers with the respect they deserve, as well as demonstrating altruism by making €10 excellent little watches as a loss-leaders, just so that everyone can afford to buy a decent watch - no wonder they are so successful. I'm also a haut-horologie fan, but I would certainly have no qualms at all about buying one of these Casios. They do a model that retails at about €7,500 - almost a luxury Swiss watch price. When you observe the arrogant way in which e.g. some of the Rolex AD's treat their customers, I would rather hand over that amount of cash to Casio rather than to Rolex. I know that it's about comparing apples and pears here, but you get the point I think.

Perturbing that the lack of jewels means these won't last more than 5 years or so. The watch is so rugged that if it had a more durable movement it would last several lifetimes. Having to pitch it because the movement is worn out would disappoint me. Imagine if you'd bought, say, a $300-$500 model. A good argument for not buying any of the more expensive G-Shocks, unless those have jewels.

it's not carbon, it's plastic.they have models that use carbon on the bezel or on the dial.but the case is plastic. G-shock cheat
