@@fightfannerd2078 Actually, it isn't even that rare and especially in the early days there were quite a few female composers in the video game industry, some of which composed tunes that became integral parts of video game culture (Street Fighter II, lots of Mega Man's music, Castlevania 1 etc.)
@@singlereedenjoyer As Symphony said, yeah some. Kinuyo also did the entire soundtrack for Mega Man X3 and...yeah I can see why Yamashita didn't get all the music credit.
Castlevania music was handled perfectly from day one. This song sets a fittingly spooky mood for the rest of the game while also being insanely catchy. It also established the style of music that the series would go on to use throughout too many future entries to count. Makes you want to go out and kill a vampire, doesn't it?
We weren't the poorest family in town, we never went hungry and had warm clothes, but I recall as if it were yesterday hearing this song in the middle of the night, thinking I was in a dream. It was a few days before Christmas. My pops couldn't wait to open the NES my Grandpa had gotten us, a group gift to 4 kids. I had busted him, and he knew it. So at 0200hrs in late December my dad and I entered into a secret pact, and I was brought into the fold, at least until mom busted us. She wasnt swayed as easily.
I never played Castlevania on NES, but as I heard this music I was certain I know it from another game, after hours I finally remembered, it was a Mario romhack called "Mario XP" that I was playing when I was a kid, never knew this was a Castlevania OST, holy man that brought back a lot of memories :')
I played Mario XP before Castlevania when I was young too. It's a Japanese fangame btw, not a ROM hack. But man that game scared the heck out of me back then with its dark tone.
One of my favorite Video games of all time. I first got introduced by AVGN & always wanted to play Castlevania, I then got it on the virtual console & it rocks, thanks Nerd:)
You didn't need to. It's a commitment. You just have to think before jumping. I haven't found myself screaming I wish I could control myself mid air. Mario fanboys lose their shit over it, but the game isn't about precision jumping onto shit. It's about smacking motherfuckers until there's none left.
It’s a pretty important freedom to have in games which is why most games have some form of it. Even a degree of deceleration would help. Granted the game is still plenty beatable but the jarring nature is understandable
@@StarchieHalo he's not saying there's anything wrong with it, just that the lack of control adds an extra layer of challenge that was definitely intentional on Konami's part
Every person who knew about the game has a personal story to this franchise but I didn’t. This was one of those titles I downloaded on my Wii U and was hooked by the premise of classic movie monsters. Played any available but loved the first four games the most.
My favorite songs of the era include this one, Silence of Daylight from Simon’s Quest, the dungeon theme from Zelda, Kraid’s Lair from Metroid, and the dungeon theme from Phantasy Star 3
