In this episode we show you how to harvest and cook cactus pads or nopal from prickly pear cactus as well as how to remove cactus thorns. We show you how to collect and identify wild onions and process them into a bush meal cooked in a dutch oven over the fire. I'll teach you a neat trick to harvest a huge pile of mullberries using a long stick and some plastic.
Unlike Naked and Afraid, ALONE, or Survivorman, there is no limit to the tools we are allowed to use. Living off just WILD foods is harder than you think!
In this episode we set live traps for nuisance and fur bearing mammals which are legal in Texas including possum, raccoon, rabbit, skunk, armadillo, feral hogs, javelina, badger, fox, porcupine, bobcat, coyote, gopher, ring tailed cat, soft shelled turtle, red eared slider, rattle snake, water snake.
We hunt FERAL hog too!
We fish for catfish, alligator gar, long nose gar and drum, crawfish, crawdads, or yabbies, ghost shrimp, bluegill, rio grande perch, armored catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish, alligator, freshwater clams, leopard Frog.
All wild foods are on the menu!
We seek out wild edibles including prickly pear cactus pads or nopal, cactus fruit or tuna, wild onions, mulberries, wild grape, Texas persimmons, pecan and anacua, mulberry, tasajillo, turks cap, yucca pods, cats briar, oion, chili pequin, duck weed, ground cherries, desert hackberry.

Racoon's are an issue here, way worse then blackbears. If you leave any food out anywhere, or trash anywhere over night. It will be destroyed and scattered everywhere. No matter where you live around here. (Mountains of Western N.C)

Just... Stop eating those poor animals. I'm an animal enthusiast so I really hate eating meat.😫
@FuKItM4n

Eating meat, kills less then being a vegetarian. It takes way more land, which causes deforestation to grow enough protein through plants to feed the human population. This land loss, causes mass deaths of species. If you're really noble and love animals more then yourself. Just stop eating.

Do the little wild onions have the same texture as full-size store bought? I’m a texture eater, nothing 3 mm thick should have 9 crunches

The Wooded Beardsman love the uploads. People don't understand that there is food in the woods if they would just get up and go for it!! I was raised eating what we killed or caught!! We never ate store meat when I was young.

Aint nothing wrong with food. Vegans or not food is food. If i were a vegan id still eat what i catch in the woods because for one you are not supporting the torturing of animals or the companies that do these things and two you have to take what nature provides in a survival situation

I honestly never thought I would find myself watching a channel all about wilderness survival. I've been watching this channel for a few weeks now, and my first video was the bone marrow one. You've done a fantastic job at finding a way to make bush craft and wilderness eating entertaining, interesting and educational all at once. Thank you for the great content Wood Beard, and of course thanks to Bob for having you down in Texas to join him on this challenge.

Haha! That''s awesome! It makes me happy to know that a channel like this, has been able to grow as large as it has gotten! I do agree with what you say though, it seems as though the Bone Marrow video got the most promotion and attention compared to the rest. However I would assume it's simply due to the fact that he had no "real" meat, to go for, there's essentially no reason to go out of his way to kill something. I like the traditional from of hunting, not quite to the level the natives were at. But just simply respecting that "You are about to take this living creatures life" In my eyes. First off, while it's perfectly okay to be thankful for the hunt, there is essentially no sympathy. The only time sympathy is shown is when the animal gets unfortunately wounded rather than killed. Which I believe to be fair. I don't care if you are a beginner or veteran to the practice. No hunter, or rather, no respectable hunter, would ever have the intent to fire a shot at the animal, that would not only kill it slowly, but it would feel everything. Only people who have cruel intentions would ever do such a thing.

I love cactus. During bbq, throw some on the grill to slow cook. Ones they change color, flip them. When they are done, cut them in to bite-sized pieces, add lemon and Tapatio sauce with a pinch of salt.👌 appetizers. Or mixed in with scrambled eggs for breakfast 👍

How many comments you get where people complain about the processed animal? I think its funny because i bet 98% of them who watch these types of videos and complain, they then go to kfc or go eat some hamburgers somewhere. pretty hypocritical. By the way every time I watch a video where you cook, makes me so damn hungry.

People who hit thumbs down button are just gutted that the vid is not longer. We all want longer vids but understand that camera battery life can only run so far plus all the editing not to mention the huge amount of time and effort that goes into filming these great vids in far from ideal conditions. If anyone can't fully Appreciate the hard work you do then I suggest they give it a go and see how difficult it is to film catch and cook in hot humid environment while hungry and tired. It's hard enough doing a solo 1 night camp with pre packed foods that's without filming any of it. Just setting up a tent and collecting fire wood is enough hard work for anyone.

Am hoping WB gets a chance to cook a crocodile, as i have been told by a couple of Africans (Am English so no idea if factual or not) that even vultures will not eat dead crocodiles, even when they have been harvested for trophy's allowing easy access to the internals. They just sit until the insects have finished the job. So i figure they must be uber gross or just completely inedible to most animals, i smell a challenge :D

I didn't know there were Civets in the Americas. I thought they were mostly in parts of Asia or Africa. Don't they have musk glands or something that might be pungent and taint the meat/experience?

Mulberries down in Texas, so that is a wide range for this tree! We have them up in Michigan too. The birds ate most of my mulberries! That is the main reason l let them grow, to get food for free for all the local birds. l love mulberries, and it was fun to see your advanced harvesting techniques. Good luck hunting!🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

Dude, how were you coping with the Texas heat? You're a Canadian, hence built for the cold. It must've been like spending a few weeks sat in a microwave oven!

I've been fascinated by ring tailed cats since I was a kid and I've always wanted to see one in the wild instead of a book (wrong end of the US and no dice when visiting Texas, unfortunately), and the first video I've seen of one it's DOA. Little disappointing, though I definitely hope it tasted good.

I know what it's like to have nothing but it's easy to forget and take things for granted. Most modern humans have it easy but it's good to remind ourselves what it's like to do without or survive off the bare minimum once in a while. Plus it's good for us rather than over indulging all the time.
