Down here in Beaufort, SC we love our oysters. When we cook them we throw them on heated metal and cover with sea water soaked burlap. Awesome

The best oysters I ever ate were from a wild shoal in South Louisiana years ago... My dad and I were shrimping and the oyster shoal tore holes in the trawl... We ate a few right there, repaired the net and went back to catching shrimp...! ;P

Hey Elias, get you a small Ball-peen hammer and use that to separate your oyster clusters. It works amazingly well, just strike the oysters soundly, not hard, and they easily come apart, much better than using a screwdriver, and much safer with far less chance of stabbing yourself! I grew up in south Louisiana, harvesting oysters are "par for the course" growing up where I come from!

Thanks for the great video. That looked excellent. It's funny now that I think about it, having stepped on about a million of those things near Ft Fisher and never eating them. Where I'm from most are too polluted to eat. Will have to give that a try soon. Good to see you again.

I usually gather a bunch of oysters, mussels, and clams for my 4th of July party from around N Topsail Island down towards Surf City. Biggest thing to watch out for is a closed area or someones garden they are commercially growing them in.

I wouldn't use the car wash high pressure wand for washing the oysters. Some places filter the water for reuse and I'm sure it's not filtered much. They may be OK but?? Just saying. Your videos and lessons are still #1 on RU-vid though. I've learned how to catch fish when no one else is because of Elias and I thought I knew it all at 70ish. Awesome chef also.

Chris Hodges I live in the low country Carolinas, been here all my life. I know what fresh seafood is so when I visit other parts of the country and see what they charge for flounder, shellfish other seafood in the fish markets it’s highway robbery. I usually keep my freezer stocked with Vermillion Snapper, Porgy, Black Drum, Founder, Spadefish, Mahi so when I head out to visit relatives we can have fish frys/grilled. Those fish markets are a ripoff.

I always amazes me with the bounty that surrounds us. There are so many hungry people and yet we are surrounded by all kinds of forage. Glad you did your part to educate us. I’m not a fan of oysters but given enough whiskey, I have downed a few. Shot then oyster then another shot then oyster. Didn’t take long to just skip the oyster part. Man I wish I could remember the rest of that night.

Thanks for that Elias. Oysters looked great. I have a quick question which I have failed to have answered consistently with each person I ask and also what I find on the web. You wore waders on a kayak! Safe or dangerous? I am in the safe camp once you have a buoyancy aid on as a basic but I would love to hear your opinion as an established kayaker! Cheers and thanks again. Dave

1) Was cringing waiting for you to stab yourself with the screwdriver. 2) Feel guilty saying this, but we've been too scared to grab the local stuff since the hurricane. You're welcome Maryland Oyster industry. 3) If you get bored, head down to Southport for the day, go to Mr. P's Bitro, and try the "Oysters Bienville". If you can re-engineer that recipe in a video, I'll owe you a beer.

I grow oyster for my home state's inland bay oyster rehab program. It would be nice to see you do some acquaculture harvesting rather than damage natural oyster beds. One thing that always ticks me off about this channel is Elias has THE PERFECT platform to bring up issues about local east coast fisheries management but he is too afraid to hurt his ratings to address anything meaningful. Overall displeased with the self indulgent direction this channel is headed.
