@@kylen6430it’s satisfying to see a player make a big play and to know that it’s because you were doing your job well that it wasn’t ruined. He could be thinking to himself something like “oh yeah! Vindication for all those times I’ve forced myself to keep disciplined on my assignments when it’s be so easy to slip up.”
3rd base ump really enjoyed calling that. Looked around like “hey! Yall see me just run in there and call that out? Yea I saw that coming. Im too good.”
@@rainzerdesuumpire crews rotate around the field clockwise. the official at third was behind home plate the game before. Angel is terrible relative to his peers for sure but 99% of the people talking smack about him online would do eons worse
I’d bet they’d have talked about that play previously. Really smart regardless, as of course the natural thing for the runner to be doing is to look over to 1st base to see the call by the ump. Caught him napping!
Where the hell did the 3rd baseman go?!! Watch the end of the video. He just disappeared. Ump is starting "you're out " and the 3rd baseman is there, but when ump finishes "you're out" he is gone.
Not really he stays on the field while a team mate brings his cap and glove, you must of never played before. Dont talk if you do not know what goes on.
Love heads up pickoffs!! I used to sneak in from CF and catch people at 2nd. I was really close with my pitcher and my SS. So we all were always on the same page. Once a guy would get a big lead, my SS made sure he was closer to third than him. Then he’d also start talking to the runner to distract him. Once our pitcher saw him getting too comfy, he knew I’d be sneaking in. Once he turned and gunned to second, it was all over!! We even got one guy twice in the same game, which is super embarrassing!! Other teams began to try it, but you gotta be smart. Can’t have your pitcher throw a pitch when your charging second base from center. And you gotta do everything you can to stop the ball if he does throw it. I’d have stopped it with my face if necessary!! Ain’t no way I’m embarrassing my whole team by watching it roll out to an unmanned CF while the runner trots to third and then home!! It was risky but we pulled it off about a dozen times, and never once did the runner even get third!! Can’t quite say the same for when the other teams tried it!!🤷🏻♂️😂😂
The YES commentators didn't even spot that Trevino wasn't looking toward 1st base - and they replayed this more than once. I guess the production booth didn't give them the right view.
That’s actually NOT cool and as a matter of fact I did NOT enjoy that play.. I’m sorry but I swear ever. Single. Year. We fall farther and farther from our roots as a Gentleman's game
Awesome play by the catcher and 3rd baseman. If 3rd baseman wasn't paying attention, plus know his teammate, it doesn't happen It was an amazing job by Catcher and 3rd baseman
But it takes BOTH the catcher and 3rd baseman to make heads up plays there. Chances are they talked about this play before hand and looked for opportunities to make it work.
I watched the White Sox series against the Brewers. The Sox play bad baseball and are pitiful. I don't know if they could beat a high school JV team. My neighbor is a Sox fan I feel badly for him.
Heads up baseball is my favorite. it's impressive how often the highest paid athletes in the sport get caught out for sheer negligence and/or laziness.
Did you change the video? Everyone keeps saying 3b ump was "on it", "waiting for it"... "All over it" "Coiled snake"?? 😂 But reality is he had to sprint into position just to make the call. You ever see a 1b ump sprint into position to call a runner out/safe at 1b?, or on a steal attempt see a ump sprint and call a runner safe/out. Noooo.. they are already there and in position. Truth is they don't want You (umps) to have to be moving and make calls "On the run" though IT Absolutely DOES look cooler... Like this video. If ya think out it... The only time you see an ump running are Fair/Foul Umps that are down the line (in bigger games)AKA Umps #5 & 6 that see diving catch attempts with an OUT or Safe call (dropped or trapped). Where it's obvious. Balls on ground, no catch. My guess he actually lost points for not being in position earlier. Just some info from 'Behind the Scenes'.
This is why you actually pay attention to the person with the damn ball. Not only that, but that third base ump, man. He looked so excited. That's an ump to respect.
This is how A J Pierzynski started the Chicago White Sox rally in the '05 World Series! A J was thrown a strike 3 ball, but being a Catcher he knew he wasn't out until the Home Plate Umpire called him out! The pitcher was leaving the mound and AJ advanced to 1st base, while the man on base moved to 3rd base!😅 And after rule book revue, the play standed
I’ve never seen that in over 30 years of watching baseball. Proving again, every game has the potential to reveal a play never before seen. And that is why baseball is the best game of all time.
they don't just give out Platinum Gloves! People think of the Yankees and think of big guys that hit home runs when our catchers in the 50s and 60s BOTH got MVPs... never sleep on the Yankees! #28
I always coached my softball players "and then...". Told them "if there are 4 outs, or a double play possibility, go for it. Practice it til you get a 4th out & if they change a call or miss it, you got your next play completed." Leave NO doubt.
I’m the pitcher for my beer league softball team and I haven’t played ball in about 13 years, today I made the play at first with my cousin bare handing it to me, I was so fuckin’ hyped yall! We proceeded to lose 9-1 but i appreciate yall reading my lil story bout my life lmfao. *I also I got the RBI on a double !
The White Sox barely qualify as even a minor league operation. Before the 2021 season, they were being touted as WS contenders, but they barely have even the parts or farm system with which to begin a rebuild -- there's nothing to look forward to for the foreseeable future.
Does asking the first base ump not automatically call time? You’re forcing two umpires to communicate and look away from the game, I know it’s not for long but still. You’re taking a break from the game to get the call right, but oh just kidding the games still going on and the runner is out is kind of how I felt watching this. Just felt weird
Catcher always the smartest pure player in the field. A great catcher that can call a beautiful game and give people info on batters and pitchers is invaluable. Look how much Houston misses Maldonado. He can’t hit but those guys loved pitching to him
It would be strange if the catcher and 3rd baseman had worked this kind of pick off play out beforehand. Though possible. In my college days, we had it worked out so that if the catcher rested his glove on his right knee, he was coming to me at first after the pitch. Glove on left knee, he’s throwing to 3rd.
Thats an old college baseball play that was popular in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Wichita State use to run that a lot and back pick 2nd. Every time the runner looks to the ump.
Beautiful baseball. I got no problem with that ump smirking or whatever else because he was aware and ready to make a call. Angel Hernandez would’ve been staring in the crowd or something.
many a person has gotten complacent seeing the possible strike out . . . ok only one person that i know of . . ok ok it was me. I wandered towards home in the direction of our bench. Catcher gets two opportunities to have at least one "out" call. Odds are always in his favor. :) Still a cool play. :) P.s. I think my coach is still mad at me. Well, it's been decades, perhaps not as mad :)
I wish I had a visor in high school …I have bad vision and Oakley makes a visor for football that is clear and is prescription which I used my entire minuscule career prolly coulda been a much better catcher if I had one of those
Catcher asks the home plate umpire to ask for help, he doesn’t ask the 1st/3rd base umpire. It looks like he does but it’s completely up to the HP ump.
