wasnt club nintendo the same thing with paper stuff and posters and an occasional cool thing and everyone going “omg club nintendo was so good!1!1!1!11!1!!1”
The scene is a quiet log cabin. a man(ish) sits in his favorite chair in front of the fireplace. He's reading a book, an hasn't noticed you yet. You stay silent for a second, not wanting to disturb this peaceful scene. A noise makes him alerts him of your presence. He turns and greets you with, "Hey all, didn't see you there."
@@E_Fig05 It is a quiet, windy, winter day at 5pm in Canada. You had just come back from eating an early dinner. You find a small, but quiet log cabin with smoke coming out of the chimney. You enter as the door is propped open. The second you step in, all of your worries fade away, and you spot a man in plaid pants and a gray sweater smoking a pipe. His legs are crossed and he is holding a book. "Hello?" you say as you see him. "Hey all, I didn't see you there!" he responded. He stands up and pulls open the oven. Christmas Sugar cookies with Christmas tree and Gingerbread man designs. He holds out the tray. You take one, the warmth of it making you calm, like a cup of hot chocolate on mildly cold day. Next thing you know, you have eaten half the tray. You are now parched. He can tell, and gets you a room-temperature cup of tap water in a glass as clear as a diamond.
Bro I can’t believe you commented this, I was LITERALLY typing out this same thing before saying “you know what I should check the top comments” 😂 he does look that way tho!!!
I mainly use the Silver points on Switch icons. While it's mostly pointless, I oddly get a kick out of collecting them. It's like having a stamp collection
Kinda recently I used them to get the Mother 3 Switch Icons when those were available. First time in forever I actively used My Nintendo, but hey, I'm happy having the Ultimate Chimera as my Switch Icon.
So fun fact, I work at target (no relation to target employee, and no I’m not lying). All of the items shown in the sweepstakes can be purchased at target, so it’s not even anything exclusive for a lot of these sweepstakes
Like we're supposed to believe that you're a target employee and you aren't related to THE target employee? You might want to check your 23andMe cuz there's just no way.
The reason they probably have the rewards for interacting with their websites is because it's a super low effort way that they can satisfy the "no purchase necessary" law for sweepstakes.
@timotheninja true, but all the apps have microtransactions. Even though none of the actions related to earning platinum points technically require in-app purchases, it may be a bit too close for comfort. Throwing some clickable logos on some webpages advertising their games absolutely has no relation to purchasing a product for the purposes of that law.
@Future History Archaeologists That makes sense. Also, I just realized the only way to get them on Switch is through Switch Online, which you have to pay for.
Scott saying the words “Dragalia Lost” made me feel so seen - I doubt the game will be remembered by the world at large, despite the fact that it was quite fun and endearing. But everyone knows what happens when you make a fun gacha game that you’d don’t need to spend money to compete in….
Maybe not in the general gaming sphere, but Dragalia Lost was very beloved in the gacha community (which is larger than people expect). I don't think it will ever be forgotten there, especially since it's the prime example of "too much kindness can kill".
I hope it won't be forgotten; my friend loves it so much he's showing me uploads of the story and everything. He loved talking about it enough that when i wasn't able to watch the videos with him (complicated), he would describe Every Chapter By Text and he did that for 15 entire chapters. His passion for it carried to me and i really have fondness for it now, and the characters are so engaging. It's really disheartening to see it go, but i don't think it'll be forgotten. Or like, i really hope it won't be ^^
I'll be honest I didn't notice the entire video that this was a separate channel. I was just thinking "oh this is a real chill vibe Scott has with his cozy sweater. Nice style shakeup"
I was never on club nintendo but I've honestly really loved what my nintendo has offered the past few years. I got some mario 3d all stars posters, metroid dread posters, a splatoon 3 bag, animal crossing roost coasters, and more. And I only had to pay shipping which is less than $8. All I had to do was play super mario run a couple times a week.
Same. I feel like it's gotten better recently, Splatoon Bag and a big sticker pack, and Metroid Prime pins. And I don't even use any of their apps, it gives you silver coins if you have Switch Online and play certain games you have/ back up save data once a week. It's a shame it's NSO only though
@@Lanman106 a few weeks ago I think. There's also some Metroid Prime wallpapers and game cover print-outs for if you weren't able to get a physical copy but want a Metroid Prime case on your shelf
The best physical rewards actually sell out and are quickly delisted. They had super mario 3d all stars posters, as well as N64 keychains that I thought were pretty cool, a hylian shield phone stand as well as a bunch of zelda acrylic items (Skyward sword and Age of Calamity specifically.) It's certainly a far cry from the good ol' days of club N, but if you keep your eye on it, My.N does have some nuggets ocassionally
@@daspacedog For last year's charity event, Scott sold booster packs with cards related to the show. Each card came with a QR-Code which leads to a (timed-)exclusive video.
Not really a big loss honestly. A few themes, Flipnote 3D, and a picross game. Back in the day, you could get tons of themes for free, discounts on a bunch of games, etc. Then they just randomly stopped doing it and that page sat dead for years. I really think that they should integrate Switch stuff on the site now in a similar way. Let us finally get themes for example.
My Nintendo is one of those things that I just question when I go in there. I got my account when 3D Allstars came out and saved up for a little case. The case is practically useless and the posters (which I also got later on) are better but it’s still neat. It’s free so I recommend anyone with a Nintendo account getting it but it’s not a big thing if you don’t
genuinely, i have let so many platinum points expire and rot away because i never knew this other storefront (for the physical items) existed. thank you for making this video
MyNintendo has had a few (emphasis on few) good physical things. I got the Splatoon x Pokémon keychains and they’re neat doodads that sit on my shelf. The UK got some sweet Gameboy posters that I’d love for NA to get as well
I think the physical items are definitely a step in the right direction, but not enabling customers to earn their points in any other ways than clicking the weekly mii and occasionally finding secret game things is dumb
Love how this feels like a main channel video but it's Scott Wozniak talking instead of Scott the Woz. Would honestly love to see more of this style on here because its really cool to just see Scott be himself and still be able to make a niche nerdy video interesting
One of my favorite memories with My Nintendo was trying to get those Mario 35th anniversary pin sets in the middle of online classes. Their website just could NOT handle the traffic. I kept refreshing and I managed to get both sets. Pretty happy with those.
@@notsyzagts7967 what I mean is that with that sweater Scott looks really smart, and it’s weird for really smart people to also be really funny, especially in the way that Scott is funny. I don’t mean he usually looks dumb, he just looks rather generic, and I’m not complaining about that either. And what does that say about me?
@@notsyzagts7967 youtube is the only place along with twitter where well articulated sentences still get misinterpreted "you expect dumb and strange" bitch halt. that is a completely different sentence. the fuck are you talking about.
The peak of Scott’s content is this, him just going on a 30+ video giving thoughts on a random Nintendo niche subject. Much prefer this over the bits on the main channel.
This is overwhelmingly refreshing, I personally find his meta humor and skits to be a little too frequent/over the top on his normal stuff. If he struck a balance between that and how Whimsu handles humor and info, I'd be a much bigger fan.
For anyone who says we're just looking back at Club Nintendo with rose-tinted glasses, we're not. Their physical rewards were more often of a higher quality and with free shipping, and they offered heavily-discounted or even free games all the time. My Nintendo doesn't even begin to compare.
Fun fact, if you visit the My Nintendo URL in the web archive, even that is the same that they used back in the GameCube days. It existed, then there's a long gap where Club Nintendo existed, then it's back.
Let me just say, I love the splatoon tote bag from the store. I have it in my car and it's almost as big as an Ikea bag. It's so useful for food shopping, shopping trips or whatever the heck I'm doing.
27:03 I got the Warioware pin set and a calendar on MyNintendo, I can confirm, yes you *DO* have to pay shipping for these items, but for a freebie, that's not bad.
On the console Gold can be used to by games Platinum can be used for profile picture maker Theres are also missions like: Play online Play a game trial Log in
the most common place platinum points can be spent is actually locked behind nintendo online too :-/ . You can use them to buy icon elements, usually switching themes each month with characters and backgrounds you can use for icons! (like animal crossing will do whoever's birthdays are that month) sucks that it's locked behind money, thanks nintendo! > also to add on, you can gain platinum points more frequently with online too. usually logging in and checking on the 'nintendo online' sector will give you a few. icons + backgrounds usually cost 10 points each iirc
As someone who's gotten a damn Gold Rush worth of Platinum Coins from playing FE Heroes over the last 6 years (yes, I am depressed), I've actually grown to really love My Nintendo if I'm honest. I just let my points build up as I naturally play the mobile games and explore the dumb websites, and can occasionally spend like $5 in shipping to receive tons of Nintendo merchandise from the store. Plus, some of the rewards like that Splatfest keychain set are genuinely cool! I can say with certainty that I've already gotten more out of My than I ever did with Club. I mean sure, one gave me Pikmin 3 for free and the other gave me a desktop calendar, but to that I'd say "checkmate."
I remember all the cool stuff you could get in Club Nintendo, and how they'd ship it to you for free, but here even the cheapest stuff requires you to pay shipping. I will give them props for the discounts My Nintendo used to have. Most were trash, but you'd find one or two good ones occasionally, and they were changed on a monthly basis. I got, for instance, 40% off on Samus Returns and 50% off on a bundle of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Those were pretty good deals (as Nintendo discounts go). So, of course they discontinued the deals a couple of years ago, long before the 3DS and Wii U stores even hinted at closing. I will never understand Nintendo.
My Nintendo indeed sound pretty lame in US In Europe, I got so much goodies from the website (from most recent to least) - a Splatoon3 beach bag - 3 Gameboy game cover poster - a kirby mousepad - a Splatoon/Pokemon keychain - 2 Triangle Strategy Pins - 2 New Pokemon snap clear pouch - 3 Splatoon 2 Poster - 3 Snes Poster
Did you get this for the charity thing? I was never emailed the link to the video so that’s nice. Another flub by pixel empire. Freaking loser company.
If you have Nintendo Online, you can access the little app on the Switch and get a decent amount of platinum coins by completing objectives, usually playing a certain classic game. You can then use the coins to buy little icons and make a profile pic for the Switch, which is kinda neat. Except you can't mix and match different franchises. If I got a fun little frame from Zelda, I can't put it on a Xenoblade character... for some reason
I always found weird that the gold coins are more worth than the platinum coins. The platinum coins are used to get online stuff like wallpapers, or in-game content, while the gold coins can be used to actual discounts on games, which is way more valuable.
It's not enormously huge if he simply didn't redeem them for a bit. 3DS and Wii U purchases did count but you couldn't redeem points towards them, so that's a pretty clean explanation.
Not sure if this is just Region specific, but there is a store section, where you can buy small physical things for platinum coins... stuff like keychains, Bags, small Notebooks etc. for a cheap price, mostly just costing around 300 coins, which you just get for doing basic tasks..
It feels like they’re transitioning from the original MyNintendo which is going to become obsolete when they completely abandon mobile. They kept the original page because it still had WiiU/3ds eshop stuff but with it gone and the decline of Nintendo mobile stuff, I expect them to kill that page altogether.
SCOTT!!! YOU ACTIVATED MY GOOGLE ASSISTANT AND CALLED MY AUTO INSURANCE AGENT! Happened while he was talking about finding the wallpapers on Google images😂
I loved the piplup phone popsocket I got from my Nintendo! It was very sturdy and held up! Sadly I got a new phone and it’s stuck on my old case but I loved it. I’m thinking of getting the Pokémon x splatoon keychains from that splatfest. But other then that none of the things are worth it
