the early 90s era (1989-1992) was basically the highest evolution of 80s electronic pop music. It was bizarre how the sound of Cathy Dennis/Black Box/CeCe Peniston/Crystal Waters suddenly disappeared, and was replaced in 1993 by the much more acoustic & introspective sound that people today generally associate with 90s music. The early 90s are a unique era separate from the rest of that decade. I wish that sound had lasted longer.
Could be the corporate record Monopolies acted in reaction to what happened to the Disco movement. Europe had much longer era of House, Techno, Trance and etc.
Actually in the late 90s the Dance music came back to top 40 radio and MTV with Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Nsync, Brittany Spears, Cher, Madonna, Los Del Rio, Tracie Spencer, No Mercy, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Destinys Child, Venga Boys, LaBouche, Real McCoy, Will Smith, Spanish Fly, Angelina, O Town, Effifel 65, Alice Deejay, Sonique, Backstreet Boys, Fun Factory etc. so it all came back.
I interviewed her back in the day, in Belgium, when she was promoting the single. I was 21 and it was my first ever interview for a music magazine. She was an absolute sweetheart. She insisted we do the whole interview in French. So Cathy, I love you, and it's been a joy to watch you have such a fabulous career in the music industry ❤️
@@kaysammy6730 she actually did partially. yeah she took the chorus as well as that background synth but for all of the other verses, she and 2 others wrote them while ditching the rest of them. it's not a new song but it isn't exactly just a cover either, it's like a weird cross between the two
I remember when she was on the “prom” episode of Beverly Hills 90210 & she performed this song & another song. Grew up to Cathy’s music & I loved this era 🥹🥰🙌🫶
Met Cathy around 1990 when Simon Fuller was her manager. Simon's brother Mark worked my 'Naughty boys' school and arranged it. She was drop dead gorgeous and as you can imagine been teenage boys we were all in awe of her. Good memories.
Back when people would actually meet up in person and go out and do stuff without being distracted by their cell phones every 5 min attempting to take selfies to show how much “fun” they were having. It was always fun in the neighborhood, kids were always outside, playing or we’d all go walking .now you barely see it. Fun times
@@JazzFunkNobby1964 I know, but what an amazing career and the hits she's had from here! Who would of thought she would be able to transition to songwriter back then!
Nobby Norberto actually she can call this one of her hits in a technicality as she apparently has a songwriting credit for rewriting some of the lyrics
1991 was 32 years ago and I am really impressed with this track. In 2023 this song gives me amazing nostalgia and I am totally amazed and impressed by the whole 1990s vibe. Babe let your conscience go Make me love you. What a resonance for 2023.
Esse hit foi como boas vindas a década de 90's. Outra excelente lançada simultaneamente foi ALISON LIMERICK - Where love lives (👉 Perfecto mix ). Eu recomendo. From Brazil 🇧🇷
@thr02 ikr crazy how she looks so beautiful here and she's 50 now. Even though next year it will be 30 years old it would be great if she stayed that young today because I'll definitely date her today.
True, but there’s a heavy nod to art direction and style of the past decades (from Alexey Brodovitch to David Bailey to early 60s Nouvelle Vague) and the song is a remake of an original from 1984 by Wish (featuring Fonda Rae).
@kayshawnsimmons5585 Y'all say that as if it's not common for pop singers today to know how to produce their own work. The reason why pop music finally started to get taken seriously by music critics in the 2000s was because of the pop stars of 20 years ago writing producing and playing instruments on their own material and doing so at the start of their career instead of being like Cher and not have a single writing credit until thirty years in her career.
@@Chelaxim like I said. WTF ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT IN THERE SONGS IS BS AND ON STRAIGHT DEMON TIME. I DON'T LIKE IT. THAT BS WON'T BE PLAYED 20 YRS FROM NOW. UNLESS THE WORLD IS TRULY A REAL HELLHOLE BY THE AND IM SO GLAD I WON'T BE HERE TO SEE IT. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT THO😹😹🤦🏾♀️🧐🍿☕
I remember this wonderful dance floor song, i was a teenager and Cathy was one of the best singers at that time...without any doubt 80's and 90's were THE BEST !!
I was a teen in the early 90's and I turned 18 in 1994. 2024 is the year that I became a Cathy Dennis fan. I have heard this song for decades but this is now one of my favorite songs and videos. Her beauty and dancing are mesmerizing. She's marvelous!

This was a totally cool pop song! Fall/winter of 1991 going into 1992! I remember this song always playing in the shopping malls in my early teenage years. Girls was always singing this song.
[Verse 1:] We're starting it over We're making way for destiny A time to turn over A better life for you and me A new recreation To channel all this energy Let's solve the equation I need to feel you close to me So, baby Let your conscience go There's no turning back When love takes hold [Chorus:] Hold me, baby Drive me crazy Touch me All night long Make me love you Kiss and hug you Touch me All night long Oh, oh, oh, oh [Verse 2:] The more that I see you The more I know that love belongs With you in my mind, boy I wouldn't know what's right from wrong Cause love will take over And leave you out of sight and mind You've got to go with the feeling And trust fate to be kind And, baby Let your conscience go There's no turning back When love takes hold [Repeat Chorus:] Hold me, baby Drive me crazy Touch me All night long Make me love you Kiss and hug you Touch me [Bridge:] And, baby Let your conscience go There's no turning back Once love gets hold [Repeat Chorus x4:]
I ask many people, what is your all time favorite song? I'm always surprised most do not have one..... I believe almost every song is someones favorite song.... :)
Cathy Dennis is one of my favorite female artists. When I was 14, I loved this song on the radio and I still remember listening to it repeatedly. This song has a big influence on me when I woke up to pop music. The other day, this song was included in the Japanese karaoke "DAM" and I sang it. 🎤🎵
Did I have a huge crush on her! Anyway this song was playing on the radio back in '91 when we took delivery of our new Pontiac Grand Am! Boy did it sound good in that new Delco Sound system.
@@alanwood6989 This is actually a different song but with the same lyrics in the chorus. I just played both songs back to back. Both are good songs, Fonda's having that 80's sound and Cathy's having that 90's club sound.
BACKLASH from Milli Vanilli scandal & lipsyncing groups (Black Box, C&C). The audience switched to acoustic singers & real instruments (guitars, violins, etc). BUT if you look at 90s US charts you still see hit dance/electronic songs in 1994, 95, 96, etc. The genre still lived on .
Her look and style is far better here than it was in the "Come and get my love" days. Whoever came up with it did a great job. Makes a huge difference.
I remember when this song came out back in 1990! I was 19 at the time in 1990 and was blown away with techno meets house music meets pop! Cathy Dennis is an icon and national treasure in my unhumbled opinion! This cut as well as Move To This is still a remarkable and seriously underrated album nearly 33 years later!!
Absolute joy. Sheer unadulterated joy. This song sounds as good today as it did on first release. Cute lyrics. My son was born in 1991 and here I am still loving this song thirty-one years later.
Wonderful that Cathy Dennis has returned to perform again, there is a video of her appearance here on YT, singing some of the greatest hits she wrote for Britney, Kylie, Sugababes.... She rocks big time!
