nice video. one thing to add local and what was called toll calls (long distance call). were exspensive to talk longer on the phone .. you could talk for as long as you wanted on a cb .. and communicate with family members on the road .. life saver in bad weather conditions.. you have to imagine mid 70s technology..loved them my whole family had them..

Hi Craig , you make a great point . It's been so long since the "long distance fees" were an issue , that I completely forgot about that when I made this video . I actually had a few family members that lived in the country , about 1 or 2 miles apart from each other ... and they each had CB base stations that they used for talking to each other because even though they were just a few miles apart , they were in 2 different towns/counties ... so they had to pay long distance fees to call each other on the phone ... so they started using CB radios instead . Thank you very much for mentioning that and sparking that memory in my mind .

I suppose the debate rages, but really it's more of an obscure retro hobby than a popular hobby. I can remember when a high percentage of the cars on the road had their "ears" on. Now it's the rare few. Truckers on the other hand are truly the last real bastion of holdouts because they actually utilize it beyond entertainment daily. Pretty funny how something so useful became almost a "Boomer" joke associated with those of us that were there in '73 wearing those bell bottoms and watching those leggy girls fall off those platform shoes while on their way to home ec class. I gotta dig out and hook up my 29. You are giving me nostalgia fits with all this video. And yeah, if I could step into a time machine and go back still knowing what I know now, I would put up an even louder howl for a CB radio in 73. And 73s to everybody. We"'ll catch ya on the flip flop. We be west bound and down keeping an eyeball peeled for those bears with their picture takers just east of the 118 mile sticker.

@@johnnorman7708 I was around in '73 , and I remember a lot of the stuff in this video ... but I was just a kid. I actually got into CB somewhere around 1978/79 when my parents bought their first CB radio . It was a base radio , and I would sit and listen (sand bagging) to all the local CB'ers talking on there every night . Until my parents eventually started letting me talk on it too , and I continued talking on the CB until around 1985/86 . I got married in 1989 , and didn't get back on the CB again until about 1994 ... and I've had one in both my base , and the mobile since then . People are always telling me they thought CB was dead , but I know better . I'm on there all the time , and I hear all the people that are out there everyday talking . So I started this channel to help others become more aware of the fact that CB isn't dead , and show them how to get started . Where to find equipment . What equipment is good , and maybe even hopefully rekindle others interest that were on the CB once before but drifted away . Thanks for watching my videos John.

I went from 5th grade to my third year in the USMC during then '70s. I don't even remember disco. I did have a CB and a moped when I was 16. I remember when the oil crisis started in late 1973. It never actually ended. Gas prices doubled overnight, and never came close to returning to normal after gas became available again. It seems as though we have had an "energy crisis" my entire adult life, when in fact that it not true. We have plenty of energy. It's just not cheap like it used to be. As for social media and cell phones, or at least "smart phones" have completely destroyed our society. Not long ago I watched 2 people walking toward each other on a sidewalk in front of a McDonalds, both looking down, tapping away on their "phones" run right into each other. One of them dropped their phone. That's when I finally realized that humans are probably doomed. I have fond memories of the time before social media and "smart phones"

Kind of sounds like me , but slightly different . I went from 5th grade to married in the 80s . And I completely agree about cell phones . I think they single handedly destroyed society with those things . People say that we're more social now than we've ever been because of cell phones . But we've become more anti-social than we've ever been , and it's all because of those things . I should know , I won't own one . So since I'm not staring at a phone all day , I'm watching everyone around me ... I can see on a daily basis exactly how they've destroyed our society ... when there's a fight , people don't break it up , they record it . When there's an accident people don't help , they record it . I walk into restaurants and people are sitting at tables together , but they're not talking , they're staring at their cell phones . Cell phones and social have destroyed the world but the world doesn't realize it because they've been given something to distract them while it happens ... and I see it everyday .

@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee we get a lot of skip from Tennessee here in NY . I do some skip shooting on 38 LSB . But I try to stay away from it because we have a few locals that have made the call channel their home channel . So I tend to work around it . But we get quite a bit of skip on 12 too ... which surprises me .
