After being in IT for 25 years now and most of that as a network engineer. I think the CCIE has more emotional value that career value. These days it pays more, with less effort be broad than deep. Jobs these days push for us to be broad in our expertise than deep.
At some point you are correct. Companies are looking for multiple skills - network, cloud, linux, python, security, virtualisation, multivendor. And might win over a Network Expert with CCIE. Back in 2000s and 2010s. Networking skill is the only requirements for Network Engineer position. But having a CCIE with cloud, linux, python, security, virtualisation skillsets always gives you better opportunities.
@@StyxShow yea it is definitely a balancing act. no one ever loses out by getting their CCIE. the trick is back in the day it was your only way to make big money. or rather the easiest way to break 6 figures as a network engineer. and definitely the only way to get into the higher 6 figures. these days you just need to stack the right skills and certs with a CCNA or CCNP to pull in that type of money. with far less time and effort.
@@StyxShow Yeah I think DevNet Expert will become the new king of the expert certs. Today if you can't program in IT you are a 2nd class citizen. You will never get a net eng or sec eng job at a top company (FAANG) without programming and automation exp.

Ccie was definitely the right decision in 2009. But in 2023.... *Not so much.* Cisco has not Innovated in decades. And the competitors are EATING its market share. If you're at an associate level, And *"tired of being poor"* _(as you put it)..._ Then... better options are ARISTA, F5, Palo Alto, PUBLIC CLOUD ☀️☀️

@@StyxShow I gave up on Cisco 5 years ago. I was studying for CCNP *Switch...* and It wanted us to memorize the _HOLD TIMERS_ of Classical Spanning Tree. 🤣🤣 I switched over to *F5 curriculum* instead. It has brought me more IMMEDIATE Value. It has made me a better NETWORK engineer. The ccie definitely has *PERCEIVED* Value.... I will not argue with that. But when the CCNP Route wanted me to learn *FRAME RELAY...* Thats when I knew _CISCO_ was no longer for me. 🤣🤣 Nonetheless , I'm glad the ccie has brought you success.
