I live in Alabama, and I am related to Wilson Pickett on my mother's side. My grandfather's mother was a Pickett before she married a Brown. My grandfather told me that Wilson was his cousin. My grandfather, and Wilson Pickett are from the same area. Wilson Pickett was something else. He was very talented, but needed the Lord. God bless everyone!🙏💜

Wilson Pickett came out with an album in 1979 called I Want You, which was released on EMI America Records. It had the song Shameless on it.

Always grateful for the stories you share. This is such a cautionary tale. So often fame exacerbates deep seated issues not dealt with. Wilson was a great singer, and I love his Midnight Hour song. But he was also a horrible person who seemed to enjoy his high conflict personality. I wish he didn't hurt so many people, including himself.

Funny his issues about Elvis but the Sweet Inspirations , who backed both Pickett and Aretha , left them to back up Elvis , whom they said paid generously, so much so that they made more backing Elvis than from royalties from their own recordings and all the other artists they backed treated them like employees whereas Elvis treated them like family . Btw James Brown was never jealous of Wilson cause he said Pickett couldn’t dance a lick and wasn’t the showman he was . Myrna Smith of the sweet inspirations said when she got married, she couldn’t except a Diamond ring as a gift that he gave all the Sweets because she was getting married, so Elvis sent her a powder blue Eldorado instead and gave her and fiancé the keys to his home in Beverly Hills that he wasn’t using for their honeymoon and made the cars in garage available to them.

3:08: Grandfather beats Wilson Pickett over the head with a bible because he was caught singing secular music. 3:18: Wilson Pickett's mother hits him with a wooden stick and breaks his arm. This type of child abuse produces an adult who exhibits serious anger management and alcohol/drug abuse issues. I liked many Wilson Pickett songs. Though his life story is heartbreaking, thank you for sharing the man behind the music.
