Celestia is probably the singular most complicated piece of lore genshin has to offer nowadays. Through my trek through teyvat, I’ve found countless theories about countless characters or beings connecting to celestia, and putting them together just feels like mixing several paints together, trying to create a rainbow. In conclusion, Celestia is like giving horror game theorists a calculus problem about Noah’s Ark - a giant sprinkle of tiny pieces of lore, with some IRL references tucked in here and there. What an island, and it just got its 16bit 3D model!

Speaking of Tsurumi Island, there's a weird NPC there called the Boatman who talks about this mysterious Lady of the Golden Hall, who lives in a golden mansion on the moon. In the mansion there are 140 cradles that weave souls the Boatman brings to the Lady into the dreams of children. I wonder if this golden mansion is in fact the Lunar Palace?

Wait a minute. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but "inquire not the mysteries of the sky and the abyss" reminds me of the Adventurers' Guild motto. ad astra abyssosque means "to the stars and the abyss." I don't think this is just a coincidence, considering how Genshin's lore is kinda like a puzzle: all the separate pieces fit together to make a much bigger picture. So, it makes me worried about the Adventurers' Guild. Are they going to receive punishment from Celestia for their curiosity?

They actually didn’t btw.. oorabashi died to raiden AFTER the archon war.. 😂 so teyvat was full of gods and probably chaotic so celestia tbh decided to bring order.. hence archon war.. oorabashi had to participate. HE LOST.. and fled.. meet the ppl .. brought them up.. famine struck .. he scarificed his self for his ppl.. remember that BOOK is written by HUMANS… like any good religious nonsense.. it’s probably full of opinions and errors.. it’s wild how ppl blindly just accept Info.. like focalor saying celestia cursed fountain.. 😂 Egeria not celesta out whale food in their veins.. childe not celestia woke up the whale.. skirts master not celestia kept it as a pet “nearby” khaneriah.. jesters says the sages of khaneriah mocked him as he warned them.. aka they accidentally probably unleashed the chaise of monsters that overran the works.. ENDLESS MONSTERS and corruption coming from khaneriah.. celestia had no choice but to nuke otherwise all life would be would be dead or corrupted.. fyi books and lore on Rosdam.. signoras lover have various contradictory versions… like all religious ppl irl thru think their books scared and important.. aka have u consider celestia might actually not give a shit about that book and it’s just the OPINIONS of the HUMANS who wrote it? it’s the writers of that book OPINION by that Celestia actually cares about keeping past history secret.. we have no proof that celestia is keeping the sky secret either.. Layla btw has a ideal animation quote where she actually speculated accurately the nature of the sky and stars.. clearly not forbidden if she causal look into these topics and probably openly discusses it.. nahida literally basically tells us and apep is alive and “well” and tells us… nahida isn’t in celestia “hit list” Rukka wasn’t.. 😂 I don’t think celesta cares.. knowing the past doesn’t change anything… if we found out aliens seeded us on earth.. cool but “anyways I stared blasting” how is knowing dragons ruled in the past change anything.. humans were created by PHANES AND Celestia or rather celestia is absurdly pro human.... 😂 aka note all ancient civilizations that got nailed where literally dabbling in forbidden stuff which we know ALWAYS ends in evil and corruption.. excuse celestia for acting a government and upholding national security… sun and moon is not as important as y’all think or want it to be.. oorabashi literally CHOOSE TO DIE raiden to solve the famine issue.. not cause he read that book… the book literally makes it clear it’s just his opinion not fact… speculation of lack of history AND the book is literally a collection of writings and edits from different ppl over different generations.. 😂 literally tryna to speculate why oorbashi chose to go to his death.. book literally makes it clear it’s only HIS OPINION not fact.. y’all saw it and immediately took everything word as FACT.. 💀

The thing I might never get about celestia, and actually something that is frustratingly not talked about very often, is that celestia themselves are invaders not of this world. The vishaps are the true rulers of teyvat, along with probably most gods exiled to the dark sea, who refused to conform to new management. My current personal crackpot theory is that teyvat IS actually the twins' original world, but it has been so drastically changed by celestia that it is unrecognisable to them (at least at first, hence abyss sibling doing... whatever they're doing). This would explain why they are able to naturally (not using delusions get outta here) control several elements (sometimes even at one time). The only other creatures we have seen that can do this are elemental beings, mostly lizard-like vishaps, and though the enkanomiya event goes against the idea that vishaps can take on human form at the end... I'm still not quite sure of that. Even the idea that a human can only naturally control one element at once through a vision is perpetuated solely by celestia, who's to say that that's actually the natural order of teyvat? also, if celestia are invaders, which is concrete fact, then perhaps humans aren't even natural to teyvat either- from what i've read, the lore is a bit iffy on whether humans preceded celestia or were created by it. Also like. The link between celestia being genshin's honkai equivalent is pretty obvious so I'm not gonna go on abt that.

I always like to compare the themes explored in both Genshin and Honkai because they clearly overlap and come from certain philosophies and messages that Hoyoverse is interested in talking about. The idea of Celestia fearing human civilisation and progress is an idea that has existed early in Honkai when the objectives of the Herrschers were unknown and were presented to us as mysterious beings that show up when humans reach certain points of civilisation and is one of the reasons many people think that Khaenriah and the Forbidden Knowledge are Honkai events. However we now have a lot more knowledge of what Honkai is and what the meaning of "civilisation" is that Hoyoverse is trying to question. We are at a point in Honkai where it's asking if "humanity" is required for "civilisation" to exist, do we need to be "human", have a physical form to be "alive", and whether a "civilisation" made up of consciousness without bodies, without humans is still considered a future for humanity? If the world gets destroyed every 50 thousand years and no cycle of humanity has ever been able to stop it, is it worth abandoning our humanity leaving only "consciousness" and "ideas" to take form in a purely imaginary state, a dream-like state that cannot be destroyed physically? Could this be how Seelies ended up becoming spiritual creatures, Aranara becoming beings that only exist as dreams and how King Deshret's Golden Dream moved his entire kingdom into the dream realm? The latest Honkai chapter further argues that "Humanity's greatest strength is in narratives", dreams, ideas, concepts, stories, fiction, all of these are forms of narratives that first exist in imagination before being made into reality. A fictional story is a narrative, programming code is also a narrative for machines, an engineering blueprint is a narrative on how to build. Humans are narrative creatures, why make the extra step of bringing narratives out into reality, why not just exist purely as ideas, fiction and dreams? Honkai is getting so philosophical and out there now that what's actually happening if explained literally in Genshin terms is, if the dreams lingering in the artifacts and leylines can house domains, should we just abandon our bodies and just exist in those dreams domains and why not just move the entire Teyvat into Irminsul itself and exist as a dream? Yes Honkai has turned Stigma, their "equipment" equivalent of Genshin artifacts into the actual major plot point of the story and philosophical argument. This philosophical argument questioning "humanity" and "civilisation" is what the "Will of the Honkai" is challenging humans to answer or face extinction, and humanity have never been able to answer it for countless cycles. We will reach a point in the future of Genshin where Celestia will ask something similar, I personally believe Celestia is challenging the power of dreams against destiny. Destiny is the ultimate enemy of dreams, if everything is fated, how are dreams even possible? Or can there be dreams so big that even fate and destiny can be changed? What kind of dream does civilsation need to stand up against fate? And we've already seen some kind of effect of "narrative" and "fiction" in Genshin, where Nahida's story can even withstand the rewriting of history in Irminsul. Hoyoverse truly believes in narrative, story telling as humanity's greatest power.

Maybe they make genshin lore to warn the people to not go against the Chinese government, since their major target market are Chinese players anyways. Mihoyo does have ties with the CCP, their officials even taking pictures with CCP members. I dont remember if you talked about this but considering what Ei said about "that thing" which she saw that caused her fear what if khaenriah did what Scara and Dottore did in Sumeru but instead succeeded too much. Making an abyssal god out of a human that embodies pure corruption and entropy cause i cant see human hubris/prosperity alone being the ONLY reason that is capable of attracting not only the archons but celestia and most likely majority of their representatives/envoys attention across teyvat including all of the nails dropped across it as well. Which also lead me to think that whatever "that thing" is is still alive and just sealed and maybe the twins have something to do with that part of it? I'm just spit balling here on what ifs but yeah not enough answers just more questions.

As someone who reads many Chinese high fantasy novels (xiaxia). I can deduce from thier fantasy tropes that Genshin really just follows the basic tropes of a XiaXia novel or Manuha. Xiaxia stories usually go like this. A young boy with mysterious origins has to gain power from the bottom of the ladder in a world filled with powerful people. But the more powerful they become, the more aware they are that thier world is being suppressed by something or someone usually referred to as the "Heavens". At the end of the first part of the story, the protagonist usually discovers that his world is actually a prison of some sort, and the so called 'heavens' are nothing more than powerful invaders who wish to take something important from said world through a long convoluted plan that involves acting as 'gods' until they can steal what they want. This goes well with Genshins current narrative and this leads me to believe that Celestia and the 'Heavenly Principles' just powerful invaders and thieves. That's probably why Khanriah hates them so much. Also, we know that the 'Heavenly Principles' is also messing with Irminsul.
@elllana
@elllana Год назад
Yeah Genshin has tons of xianxia story tropes along with more anime style character tropes which makes an interesting combination. I’m not surprised people initially thought it was a Japanese game or that Mihoyo was trying to make it seem like a Japanese game, but when I started playing it felt very decidedly Chinese.

While I see your point and while Celestia originally did start from the primordial one who is not from teyvat, I don't think Celestia is evil. on an alignment scale I would say there a true lawful. all of Celestias actions so far as we know has been to either save the world (Remember that khanriah put teyvat at considerable risk as they opened up and set abyss creatures on everyone) or to make sure no one civilization gains to much power (knowledge) which can be attributed to how when civilizations do gain knowledge like this they tend to cause a calamity and risk eternity. in addition while Celestia started out as an alien force to teyvat it is not alien to humans as it kind of owns humanity considering it was Celestia (or at least the primordial one) that created humans. when thinking about it Celestia is actually much more harsh to non-humans it is interesting to think that the archon war not only killed most local gods but to win you also had to have a good plan for humanity as well not all life humanity specifically.

@@voidstar6353 Nah, I'm certain that at least the upper echelons of Celestia are evil. It's a also a common trope for the invaders to pretend to be lawful protectors until the final battle approaches. Then they usually turn on the world they claimed to be protecting for thier own benefit.

Precisely. I can see situation where Teyvat is simply a single large world, akin to an expanse cosmos from er gen's novels, and therefore the imaginary tree in honkai is the overarching universe, although unlike er gen I doubt it'd go into something as unfathomable as star rings after that.

@@ibukunanjorin9054 sure it a common trope but this is a bit of a different situation Celestia (the law keeper) and the primordial one (the law maker) are not native to teyvat yes, but they also created humanity for what purpose we dont know. but that means that humans, the largest race of Teyvat and Celestia are both the "invaders" . The situation you are describing has already happened Celestia and the primordial one came wiped out the local gods, created their own race and propagated it everywhere. Celestia won and right now the heavenly Principles and the rule of the 7 are Celestia making sure that this never changes in other words, eternity (it is also implied that the gnosis that by ruling over a people you gain power)

I do think Celestia is evil, regardless of their justifications. Beginning with Phanes and its Four Shades, they are described as inavders. Phanes and the Shades fought the 7 Dragon Lords that originally ruled over Teyvat and won, thus taking over. The reason that knowledge is considered forbidden/hersay is because Teyvat acts as a prison. Should the people learn the truth they will want to rebel, and Celestia obviously doesn't want that. The Second Throne really interests me. What exactly was it? A being powerful enough to sunder the heavens and rend the earth but supposedly defeated. What if wasn't defeated, possibly in hiding for now? Maybe it's the Abyss, or at least has a connection to it.

Flower of Paradise Lost seems to heavily imply that the Second Throne may not be the 'modern anti-human rights' version of Celestia after all, since Phanes was perfectly capable of sending Celestial Nails to defeat the Second Throne, meaning that Celestia existed before the Second Throne's arrival. That being said, the fact that Istaroth is the only Shade to respond to humanity is extremely sus. Could it be that the other three Shades betrayed Phanes and allowed the Second Throne to replace them as head of Celestia? And that's why they continued to use Celestial Nails in the future? Or is the Second Throne connected to the Abyss? Because King Deshret's forbidden knowledge about Celestia vs Second Throne brought Withering into Sumeru, while Tighnari implied that Withering came from the Abyss. From experience playing hoyoverse games. Not everything is face value. Since almost all the villains have their own agendas to “protect the world”. In case of their previews games villains are just heroes who look for the best result to end suffering. Even if it causes some lives. So chances are their are things we cannot see. Because in previews games their are organizations who are willing to destroy cities and civilizations. So I think this is more of a way of protecting the people in a twisted ways. Only honkai player would know this but think about this like “project stigma” and celestia is world serpent.

Could you make an explaination on why Ei/Raiden started the vision hunt decree when the visions were said to keep people form getting too strong?
@teldarin7557
@teldarin7557 Год назад
But the explanation was already given by Ei herself during the end of Inazuma's Archon quest. Before her change of mind caused by her defeat by the Traveler and her people's ambitions, she was very afraid of change and the loss it would bring. And humans, as feeble as they are, don't have long lifespans when compared to Archons or Youkai. This is why Ei approved the Vision Hunt Decree. She was convinced that such short lived creatures can't afford any "extra loss" that mortal ambitions bring and Visions are the literal manifestations of human's ambitions, so of course she would go after those as a "solution".

Disclaimer. I don't have full grasp of all the current known lore but I do like to go wild speculating. So this made me think. What if the reason Celestia doesn't intervene against Snezhnaya is that they know it won't succeed against it. How would they know? Fate. If fate can be indeed changed what if Celestia could meddle with the fate of the Snezhnayans? This way they wouldn't need to act against the nation and would just sit back and relax. Maybe that is also why the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles hasn't been active. And since the Traveler doesn't seem bound by the fate of Teyvat right now what if they are the one who will break the system to save the Abyss Sibling. Since the sibling is part of Teyvat right now it's possible that the altered fate was the thing that sealed them there and made it in such a way that Irminsul could affect them/have info on them. The ability to affect the fate of the entirety of Teyvat could also be the reason why the Tsaritsa started the crusade against Celestia. Could also explain why it is said that she has no more love for her subjects. She has no more since she knows that they are all affected by the fate dictated by Celestia. Celestia having control over fate would also explain why the Abyss order would want to reweave fate with the Loom of Fate project. Either that or it has something to do with the abyssal knowledge. Anyways I'm going into wild theories and speculation territory but it's always fun to do so.

There is some problems tho first we saw clearly that history can be manipulated easily by changing stuff in Irminsul And the second problem is a bit complicated cuz first we have the traveler when you first touch the statue of the seven and get the anemo power and try to explain why he/she got it pimon cut him off and says because you are out of this world and think it’s the real reason but left this way intentional And the last thing feels like we are already on a sit course cuz the siblings say you will see in the end of your journey and the mysterious voice in the last quest we did speaks about changing the fate of Teyvat making us feel like this has already happened once before or something similar has happened or there is ppl in the know of what’s going to happen So to be honest we can’t trust a lot of things in this world as the voice said but there is these story’s hidden behind in some corners of Irminsul full of analogorys but then again the voice said trust only what you can see so can we even trust that we can see the sky but now we are told it’s fake so annoyed by the complexity of this stupid lore hahahaha

oki I have a bold theory it could be wrong, it could be right or i'm overthinking this. My hunch is that the Traveler is like an agent of the Heavenly Principles or Celestia but the traveler doesn't know that. Something about that look the Sustainer gave to the traveler in the beginning of the game tells me there's a bigger reason why they let them go. Perhaps another way to monitor the activities happening in Teyvat? Celestia has been radio silent through all the major events where the traveler was involved. You'd think Celestia would intervene in some of these like the creation of a mechanized god in Sumeru but it's been the traveler solving the problems of each region. Another reason why I think of traveler this way is because of the door in the starting screen. How I understand it is it could be the door to the traveler's mind or conscience. That then raises the question, who is going through the door?

Dunno, I'm feeling like you're losing it lately a bit. I don't understand the stubborness with which you assume that Phanes = contemporary Celestia, when there is nothing pointing towards that. If anything, it's more likely that those who rule Celestia (at least now) are the Second Who Came. And this version has been reinforced by Nahida's revelation about Descenders and that Heavenly Principles (who is the highest authority in Celestia we know about) is most likely the first of them. There are some few factual errors & discrepancies in the video. I.e. you say that Primordial One and Shades stopped answering prayers before the war with Second Throne, when according to "Before Sun and Moon" it was the other way around. Also the entire "Khaen'riah business" is highly questionable because we don't really know who (and how) started it. You say that Celestia's intervention was only a reaction, but "Chunk of Aerosiderite" description states: "When Khaenri'ah was destroyed, a great sinner created endless monsters with dark, alien blood flowing through their veins. [...]". First sentence rather strongly implies that the release of the monsters by Khaenri'ah was a retaliatory strike, sort of an attempted MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) instrument. And whatever the truth is, I'm pretty sure it has been quickly "censored" with the use of handy Irminsul.

Have you read the new artifact set (flower of paradise lost) lore ? That one says that the primordial one was the one to drop the nails out of fear after the second thrones arrival. Though im not sold on the idea that the primordial one won (the current info we have doesnt make sense of the radical change in behavior from celestia imo), i can see why people are assuming it is the case now. Oh yea and artifacts come straight out of the irminsul so yea im starting to doubt even artifact lore…
@killerguythefox
@killerguythefox Год назад
My main takeaway so far is things are real blurry on purpose. because we get contradictions, unreliable narrations, actual historical manipulation(irminsul). before sun and moon indicates the old heavenly ordered was shattered and the peoples of that civilisation scattered. and supposedly the world has become more dont question the heavens rather then living among them. but with the hint or guess from enkanomiyans that the heavenly seal that kept them from going to the surface might have been their creator stopping them. meaning it was either that or the second throne. and then we have the new artifact set painting a far more weird picture. it never states it to our faces but theres never a mention of the second throne taking over by the goddess of flowers. and she seems to indicate the seelies were cast out. and never states who rules the heavens yet says inquiring into the primodial one and the big no no topics it seems will bring forth calamity. it leaves us with a vague and blurry image of who rules the heavens still. because her reference of the primodial one seems to indicate he was struck with fear and supposedly destroyed much of the human realm to heal it from the invasion. i suspect seeing with our own eyes as the voice at the end of the archon puts it is the truth and we need to see to understand. and that will lead us to what is really going on.

Just wanted to put this out there, a perspective worth considering: It occurs to me that the Arrogance of humanity is a misconception in present times. Consider this, in early times there are a number of civilizations that utilized slavery to build their empires. The Heavenly envoys don't appear to speak out about any of that, in fact the only issue occurs when the Leaders of said human empires started looking upwards. If humans took to the stars where would that leave Celestia and for that matter the human race itself? Maintaining a leash on an enslaved and imprisoned number of people would become more and more impossible once they escape Celestia's realm of influence. There is a series called The Expanse that goes into this topic in much greater detail then I could hope to convey here now; suffice it to say that the greater the distance so is there a need for greater automony in self government and regulation. So what I'm getting at here is that any society that has slaves as a means of empowerment is in itself enslaved by its own need for control. Ya the old adage of what you own in fact owns you. Life is about being symbiotic, parasitic social contracts do more harm to progress then they could ever hope to benefit. (That's why A.I. as a slave race would never work but that's another topic) Now I totally understand desperate times call for desperate measures but other then causing controversy what was the actual need the humans required the God's for to begin with? During the Archon wars it seems implied that a great many humans went to war in the name and love for their God's. So how did that benefit humans as a whole? Clearly it didn't, it merely divided us and sewn discord and fear amongst us as a whole. What I'm trying to say here is the divine beings of Celestia didn't do much in the way of guiding humans as a whole towards prosperity. It was always about measures of control. And if humans aren't allowed to prosper and grow beyond Tehvat then I recommend watching Snowpiercer to anyone of legal age capable of comprehending the horror of growing populations in a confined space with limited resources along with a social tier system. Put simply, its a pressure cooker, sooner or later things are going to explode because Celestia made it such a closed system of control. Consider also that we are observing a world with 1 divine creator not a world reputed to have been created in varying fashions according to the culture of each region. Well that would have been the case had not every human had the very concept mind wiped from their consciousness and data logs by the manipulation of Irminsul. Now such knowledge is of course considered forbidden. But wait let's back up a bit, if Celestia rules over all why is there division of culture amongst each region? Why is it not, in fact, uniform? Could this be an intended outcome for segregating the human experiment in order to exploit such divisions? It makes me wonder, was the real cause for the punishment of the Dahri due to their discovery of knowledge from outside the control of Celestia or in fact because they realized the God's were in fact the greatest obstacle for the human race as a whole that needed to be overcome? Is it actually human arrogance to wish to be emancipated from such tyranny? Or is it merely the narcissism of a conquering power to believe us humans unworthy of having a destiny beyond that of being its slaves?

Ok, this sounds like nonsense, but hear me out. What if the Primordial one is an insecure god? Lemme explain. So there are 5 descenders as far as I'm concerned, right? Let's talk about the 1st Throne and the 2nd Throne. Phanes create 4 shades and call them the Shinning Shades of Phanes, then they create the new Teyvat a.k.a the Teyvat we knew now. However, there are other invaders and so they have a war. I speculate Phanes almost got the taste of defeat but still manage to win the war, except something must have happened to them. The 2nd Throne is described as a chaos bringer, so the forbidden knowledge could be invented by them. The knowledge then descend to Khaen'riah and got discovered by Gold to be the base of the Art of Khemia. Realizing the power of such "outside of the world" knowledge got mastered by humans, Phanes becomes worried their place might be replaced with a new god created by Khaen'riahns 'cause they do not have a God. That's why they destroy Khaen'riah, to secure their position. The same events happen to them who have discovered the Forbidden Knowledge or the Abyss, such as the Vindagnyr Civilization, the underground Chasm, and the reason why Rukkha-who? need to create a new version of herself to prevent the spreading of the forbidden knowledge in irminsul (since the soul who has been contaminated by the forbidden knowledge goes inside of the irminsul tree). 'Cause if she can't handle the situation properly, Sumeru indeed will be doomed (skyfrost nail goes brrr). The forbidden knowledge might affect Phanes and other Shades, hence why they're being 'too quiet' just like what Nahida said while gambling with Dottore in the Akasha Pulse quest. But before they become silent, I speculate that Istaroth might have changed the timeline. So imagine it like this. Khaen'riah monster invade Teyvat (I guess because of the forbidden knowledge), Teyvat got destroyed, the most cherished creations (mankind) of Istaroth and Phanes got destroyed, Istaroth and Phanes sad, Istaroth used all of its power to change the timeline, hence the Cataclysm has occurred But even though they manage to change the timeline, they still can't get rid of the forbidden knowledge, as if it's a curse. So, when do Phanes and the 4 Shades become silent? I'll write more after I recover from my fatigue...
