For anyone trying to figure out which they need: Ive owned lots of cabs and speakers and what Id say about the g12m-65 is after owning them for over a year is that theyre more greenback than anything else but with some ass behind them. Kind of like a very smooth g12m-25 but with real bass response. Its a beautiful creature. Ive never enjoyed the greenback for my style, but REALLY love these. The trade off in giving up some of the raucous raunchy detailed harmonic top end of the greenback for more present lows was perfection for me. The H75 is much the same when compared to the g12h30, smoother. Less jangly top end and a tighter , more controlled bass. Only had them for about a month and enjoy the Heritage 55Hz better only because if I want the classic H magnet sound I want it all over the place, top and bottom. The Creamback 75 smoothes out the ice pick rough edges of its cousin the g12H30. In all both are amazing, to me the coolest offering from Celestion since the v30 but they are very different from each other while both being modern interpretive updates on 2 classics. Like the V30 but want the upper mid spike gone? The H75 is your guy Like the Greenback but want more bass and are willing to give up a little top? M65 is for you

Johnny Stanko thanks for the informative reply. I am building s cab and it’s down to these two speakers and I can’t decided and this video makes me lean 75 but I want a more greenback sound with more wattage. Cheers

thanks man. I have a 2x12 opposing corners mounted oval back Fargen cab that has two H75's in it and been trying to find someting like what you are saying to get an idea between the two as the cab is what came with the 50W Fargen plexi and after this seems like one of each would be a great match. Any thoughts on that?? .and then......you said it!!! thanks

At first sight, the G12H is more flattering, but the G12M is more balanced, the sound will be less boring because it is less typical. Mediums of G12M are ultimately more natural. I tried both, they are very good, but I find the G12M a little less defined and more vintage. For simplicity, the G12H for young ears and G12M for old ears damaged by the many concerts. Thks for this excellent demo !

Anyone else looking at this comparison in 2020? Both speakers sound big and are excellent. The 75 is more focused with smoother, rounder tones while the 60 is raunchier, more aggressive and probably breaks up earlier. I would split a cab 50/50 with these speakers. The are very complimentary.

Hey guys, sorry it took a while for someone to respond to your questions, just saw these! Thanks for the good words :) To clarify- both the "H" & "M" were powered by the same amp and loaded in the same closed back cab (white) on all clips. Both amp & cab designed & hand built by Dave Kracke of Kracke Amplification. Both of these speakers really sound fantastic in person and compliment each other well! The blend of the two in that room was way too much fun! =P Thanks again, all the best~ Tony

I'm two weeks into my first Creamback, a G12M-65 in a Marshall DSL40C. Was worried it wouldn't have enough low end. Started off a bit fizzy but has suddenly started to break in and warm up, sounds glorious on high overdrive to moderate gain. The low end does not 'thump' like an H magnet but it is surprisingly full and balanced. I almost swapped it for a V30 but glad I didn't because it sounds awesome now.

Cool!! I've been using my DSL40C for a year and now I'm considering replace the seventy 80 with a G12M-65 creamback or G12H-75 creamback. The first thing I want is to eliminate the "harsh" and get a good balanced tone. How does the G12M-65 work with lead 1 and 2 at ultra gain channel? I love the Crunch setting at classic gain channel but I want to know if is suitable for high gain. Love the 90's rock style (classic, aggressive, NOT heavy metal). Is the G12M-65 a good solution? Thanks in advance.

My DSL40 came stock with a 65M. I thought I loved it. It sounds very good. My bandmate, on my advice, put a V30 in his DSL40. I tried them side by side, and his wins. In our band, it's hard for me to hear my amp. Alone, I prefer mine. In a band, cutting the mix, the V30 wins. Not to sound similar, we both use pedals for dirt that are different, but I'm going to go to the H75. I have to have more clarity and cut.

you need to stop believing that a v30 is the solution for any problem and comparing it toe everything! A v30 is tolerable only for modern metal on modern high gain amps...otherwise it sounds sterile, harsh, ear-percing, too bright and fizzy...when I listen to what I played with a loop station and a v30 it sounds like a videogame theme of the '90's. Boring and without character...Now since I play early '80's metal trhough a Marshall that is bright by itself I need a darker, tight, smoother tone that only old Celestion models are able to give (65, m65, t75, and even m25)...plus they have a very distinctive tone, just listen to the first Boston lp, balls to the walls, piece of mind, psalm9...almost everything in between 1976 and 1983.

Listen to 2:28-2:47 and the M65 sounds perfect to me for my style of classic and hard rock. I believe the M65 would stick out in a band mix better also. Now is you have a medium or smaller sized 2x12 cab I think the H75 would sound maybe a little better than the M65, but for an OVERSIZED 2x12 cab like a Bogner OS2x12, you wouldn't need all that extra low-end. So thats why I went with two M65's. Don't have em yet but they're on the way and can't wait. I also have a 4x12 Splawn (Small Blocks) and Mesa V30 cab that would make these Creambacks sound awesome I believe. So it makes since that an oversized cab might take the M65's better and a small cab like in this video would take the H75's better. We'll see, and I'll post a video of mine also.

The G12M25 Creamback is a midrange focused speaker. Starting from that point, the G12M65 Creamback adds bass and treble while rolling back the midrange a bit. From there, the G12H75 Creamback is even more scooped than the 65, adding more bass and treble and comparatively less midrange. From there, moving on to the very common G12T75, you now have a strongly scooped midrange and even more bass and treble still. And the V30 is a lot like a Greenback but with a much brighter treble region.

It seems like the h-75 has a more open live sound to it that shows some more outside noise, great for an AC/DC tone, while the m-65 is more of a tight studio sound, with some of the high mids scooped. Great for leaving room for the vocal with no EQ. I'm gettin an m-65 for my vintage peavey 212 transtube to go along with the Sheffield 1230 that's in there, with both speakers to chose I should get a monster tone.

Chris Skibbe Yeah, I agree with you on this. I guess it really depends on the speakers people are listening through. The 65s are really scooped and has increased highs in the 2k Ohms range. Regardless of what other folks think, I would bet on my own ears. I do have my Yamaha HS80M and KRK Rokits hooked up to my computer to hear true sounds and I do hear the more heavily scooped coming from the 65 (but does have more bass though).

Thanks for the good words MJ :) That custom just happened to be at the studio! The guys who run the place didn't know the exact year, just that it was early 70s. Not sure what pickups were in it, sorry man. They felt like a lower output PAF style to me. The strings were pretty dead on that guitar but we were diggin the way it sounded as was so thought we'd do a few clips on it anyway, lol. Kinda hard to get anything other then great tones out of a Kracke amp & the creambacks sounded great too!

This is a great comparison, thanks. I never realized how 'scooped' sounding the M65 was until put side my side with the H75.....love the M65 though, sounds as it's intended to me....a higher power Greenback.
@Beermaker2000
@Beermaker2000 10 лет назад
To me the G12M doesn't sound scooped, it has very pronounced mids, IMO. Like a greenback. the G12H75 has a lot more bottom end though.
@heut4384
@heut4384 9 лет назад
Beermaker2000 I listen to them thru both my KRK Rocket 8 and Yamaha HS-80M and the G12M-65 is definitely more scooped out (not really like a Green Back at all). The G12H-75 has a more balanced mid, which makes it sound very smooth and sweet thru the Fastback amp and appears to have more of that warm "mid" you get from the Green Backs. The G12M has significantly more highs (or presence, if you will). The G12H sounds much better with this head, but if you have an amp that lacks the highs (or rounder in the highs), then the G12M will give it more bite, which will make it sound more like the G12H in the Fastback amp.
@heut4384
@heut4384 9 лет назад
Beermaker2000...and the G12M definitely has a lot more bass response for sure. I have a Randall head that really lacks the highs, so the Creamback 65 works perfect for me.

the m actually has less bass then the h creamback but the bass is quite a bit looser on the m65 which depending on your taste can make the low end sound a bit tubby .

The M actually has less bottom then the H but the bottom on the M is much more spongy and loose giving the perception of more bass and the M also has more lower mids than the H . So those 2 things combinez give the impression of more low end.

I wish the H75 had been around when i swapped out my Vintage 30. Was using an Orange OR50 with a TS as a boost with a P90. Suffice to say i had to get a different speaker because it culminated into the cheap radio 1-1.5k hz sound. The V30 developed cone cry too because i was overpowering it. Replaced it with a Weber Axis which made me scratch my head as to why Orange bothers using V30's. The main complaint of Orange amps is that they're fizzy but it is no wonder why. I found out the 2008 anniversary OR50 matching cabs had G12H's. The Axis was a copy of a Fane Axiom. A chimy speaker clean but tight and moves a lot of air when distorted. Unlike the alnico Fanes, i chose a ceramic magnet. Thought id ve a Weber customer for life but u love that G12H75 and probably the original G12H in general. I like Greenbacks but want higher headroom. Now i want to compare my Weber with a G12H. I think the two would sound stellar in a 2x12.

What OHMs was this signal chain run at? 8 or 16? In series? Parallel? In this test, on most comparisons, I found myself preferring the "bigness' of the H-75 (it just fills the space in the stereo image/feels like it's "outside" of the speaker/more 3D. However the M-65's felt a bit more "right"for the softer clean playing examples. The H-75 is more hi-fi/with a much larger frequency spectrum to my ears. The M-65s feel scooped in a similar manner to the frequency response of an SM57.

I think the G12H is a more versatile cab, I play a Peavey Classic 30 through the 4 x 12 cab with G12h's and it takes the sound to new level, well away from the classic peavey sound, just opens it up and hums rock and metal with a little bit of restraint.

I wonder how a 4x12 Marshall cab would sound with a mix of these (2-12M's and 2-12H's) diagonal to each other connected to an original 65' JTM45?

A picture says a 1000 words but I don't want to assume because you know why. Anyway are both speakers in the same cab and we are only hearing one 1x12 speaker at a time or is this hollywood magic and the clips were made using 2x12 configuration and then the speakers swapped out and clips were made of the other speaker in a 2x12 configuration? If we are hearing it in a 2x12 configuration it would make a huge difference in sound and I'm only interested in buying 1 for my 1x12.

Hi there,I have got a Marshall dsl 40cr the back is half open on this amp, and i hate the v-type speaker that comes with it. There is a fizzy frequency i cant stand, tryied many things to get rid of it. I want a speaker change, do you recommend a G12m65 or a g12h75. Playing mostly Hardrock, punk really want good sounding powerchords, please help thx🙂

For me the M sounded underdamped, muddy, when it was played clean on the low E. Higher Q due to magnet strength I suppose.

I'm torn I want to pair one of these two with my vintage 30. I'm curious if the M would keep up with it... I wish there were a few demos out there pairing the v30 with these speakers. I have the g12t-75 with the v30 now and it sounds pretty good. I want to try a creamback though. I'll probably hang on to the g12t-75 though

Patmclean232 i was thinking the same thing because i have the exact cab configuration you do 2x v30's & 2 g12t-75's. These creambacks sound really good together but i like the G12 H75 for a single 1x12.

Very good comparison. I think the G12M sounds fuller with a clean setting but I think it sounds compressed and muddy when you add gain. The G12H is an all around better speaker I think. Tweak the EQ for a bit more mids to thicken up the clean and it's all good. I'd like to see a comparison of some alnico speakers. Celestion golds vs Eminence red fangs or something.

Can someone, who does actually own the 65 and 75, PLEASE tell me WHICH one has the more scooped mid and have more over-the-top presence (highs)? From what I can clearly hear on this comparison, the 65 has significantly more SCOOPED mid and sharper upper presence. I've gone to other forums and a lot of people are saying exactly opposite of what I'm hearing here. People say that the 65 emulates more of the Greenback "warm / midsy" and rounder highs...and that the 75 is more "scooped" mid with more highs in the 20k Ohms register, but I don't hear that. I hear the opposite. People have compared the 65 to sound similar to the Greenbacks (warm and midsy), but I just don't see it because I have a pair of Greenbacks and they are quite midsy and does lack the highs, which is why I switched them out for my current V30; so I don't see how the 65 is even close to the Greenbacks. I'm looking to do a purchase and I'm like totally confused because from what I hear, clearly the 65 has significantly more SCOOPED mid and more highs (which appears to sound slightly thinner) and the 75 sounds more balanced w/ slightly more mid. Other vids I hear seem to confirm this, but the comments I'm reading here and on other forums are completely opposite. Some people have posted that if you buy a 65 and your amp tends to sound darker and rounder in the highs then expect the 65 to make it sound even darker and less highs...(???). WTF. How is it even possible when the 65 seems to be the clear winner of the "scooped mid" and "increased High" sounding speaker?? Can someone, who actually owns them and have made side by side comparison, shed some real light on this issue. Basically, I have an amp that really lacks the highs and has tons of Mids that I'd like to tame. I really wanted the 65 to help scoop the unwanted mid and increase the lacking highs, BUT some postings swear that the 75 will do just that and NOT the 65 as it will "reduce" the highs and boost the mid...? (What???). I'm just not hearing that. I'm confused. By the way, I listen to these comparisons thru my Yamaha HS80M and KRK Rokit 8 and my studio headphones.

I own both and I tell you my experience: the M65 has a thicker lower mid sound (although it is the more scooped one) the H75's characteristics are more like old schoolish treble kind of sound. But honestly, it all depends on your settings and definitely the way you place the microphone. That's probably the reason why you don't hear it in this comparison (although it's still a great comparison). Still, the overall voicing of both speakers is really nice. You should also keep in mind, it's not a huge difference, both speakers can present a nice treble sound. I think it's a matter of what you like the most, focus on the treble/presence(H75) or more focus on warmer bass/mid tones (M65). Actually if you would ask me what I like the most.... it's really 50/50! Totally love them both!

TecksMusic Great!! Thanks a lot for your input. Hmmm....that's strange. From this demo, it sounds like the 65 have the more pronounced highs/presence than the 75, but the 75 does sound a bit more "trebly" with smoother "presence." What I'm looking for is the one speaker that will "naturally" bring up the 20k Ohms frequencies, which is in the "presence" register, and scoop out the Mid sections. You see, I have V30s, so they tend to sound trebly as is...and I'm looking for the one speaker that will give me a bit more bite in the 20k Ohms. You see, I have a Randall RD100 amp head (that I gave up everything for (big mistake)) that already sounds dark and rounded in the highs...therefore, there really isn't a lot of highs/presence to drive the V30. My "presence" knob is already MAXED at 10..and my treble is already at 2 o'clock and the amp still sounds dull and lacks the highs/presence. This forces me to use an EQ in the loop just to boost the highs and scoop out the "mids." Yes, the "Mids." It is super focused, loud, and annoying on the amp, which I hate. And even by turning the mid knob to "0" the amp still sounds midsy. I've even changed out all the power tubes and preamp tubes and still barely changes the sound. The amp have always sounded this way out of the box. With this being the case, I'm leaning towards the 65's in hopes to compensate for what the Randall is producing (or lacking). Any additional comments?? thanks.
@ThevonMusic
@ThevonMusic 9 лет назад
The way you describe it right now makes me think there's something strange going on with the amp? I never played an RD100, so I can't help you with that, but if you still lack highs while having the presence knob maxed out, that's something I never experienced with an amp. There is a difference in all speakers ofcourse, but it's not like these creambacks have a LOT more highs/presence than for example a V30, so... Have you tried other amps over your current cabinet? + Don't you mean K 'hertz' instead of Ohms?
