Weird. In every other video, and in my experience, the Creamback 75 has more mid bite than the Green 30, but in this video the result is the opposite with the Cream sounding scooped. All depends on the amp, cab, settings etc. Also, with all due respect, the levels in this video were not right. The Cream is a much louder speaker but here the Cream clips were quieter.
I've never heard a creamback sound so bad myself, not quite sure what was going on here. Sounded like the greenback was in a closed cab and the creamback was a narrow open back amp, maybe just too small of an amp to drive the creamback. I totally agree with your comment. 😉👍
MarkKiddGuitar yes, Greenback earlier breakup.. both great but depends upon your needs... Personally love the high mids of the Greenback... Creamback seems like it is missing something in the mids...
That Greenback has a beautiful warm tone with a raggedy edge to it, that is so charming! Could listen to it all day. The Cream sounds good too, if a bit clinical, next to Greenie. Both are very useful.
Just the change from single coil to humbucker steals all the Greenback's headroom compared to the Creamback. On the other hand that might be why the Greenback sounds great with single coils
I think the creamback has a lot more doping along the top of the cone to help get that 65-75 watt rating, I think that doping chokes off a lot of those upper mids and highs that help for that classic rock breakup
I played some creambacks at a guitar store the other day and they didn’t sound terrible but I wasn’t exactly impressed either... they seem too scooped for my tastes
which is better depends greatly on the amp . I find greenbacks are to loose on the low end in open backs cabs and combos but sound killer in closed backs. h magnet speakers are better in open backs as the h magnet has tighter low end and open backs have a looser low end did they compliment each other. h magnet speakers can sometimes have to much bass and sound boxy on closed backs. I also don't like greenbacks when the guitar has alnico 2 based pickups because the low-end can get fatty but they sound killer with alnico 5 based pickups . I like to use h speakers with alnico 2 based pickups . alnico 2 based pickups have a spongy low end so the tight low end of the h speakers compliment them well. the h speaker and alnico 2 based pickups are my favorite combo just enough low end with the right amount of tightness. you really have to consider the whole chain when choosing speakers..
@@zaloraltest Cool, thanks for the info. I understand your choice for a comparison, but I think it makes especially the Creamback very harsh and thin. I would consider placing the mic 1/3rd towards the edge, from the center. That might simulate a more realistic working situation with a more balanced sound, so perhaps a fairer comparison. I love both speakers, but I'm used to the Creamback sounding a lot warmer, and aiming a 57 straight on the center isn't a very common choice, this theoretically gives you 100% of the edge/harshness and 0% of the smoothness/warmth.
Studio Mono yes thanks, I know. This is a old video. From that time to now I have tried many positions. Try to listen this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-toD2yaLgU2Y.html
Brilliant video, tackling precisely the question I have. What speaker to use to replace the stock 70-80 on the DSL40C. From videos I've seen, I love the greenback. They seem full and cutting without being fizzy or harsh, but I'm after something with higher wattage. I was hoping it was the G12H-75, but after the video, not sure it's for me, seems closer to the 70-80 with fizz. Other videos, I've seen of G12M-65 sound muffled, over-taming the DSL40C. Need to find something bang on the greenback sweet spot, but with higher watts.
The Creamback is a huge improvement over the stock speaker in the dsl40c. Still I like the greenback mid chunky sound. I'm going to try an Eminence Legend GB128. It's a 50 watt greenback clone only comes in 8 ohm just have to plug into the 8 ohm jack.
Im on here because I think my mesa badlander sounds better with my evh speaker which is a greenback. The combo came with a creamback which sounds fine. But smoother with the greenie
Superb comparison. Both of them are good speaker with very different characteristic. With clean sound, Greenback sounds loose and trebly. Creamback is tighter, more mid, smooth, and controlled. With crunch or lead, greenback becomes a little bit thicker and lose a bit of its treble. Overall, it still retains its trebly character. The creamback's mid becomes really prominence. How do you describe the character of these speakers in real life ??
Rendy Andrian I love the Greenback more than other speakers. But the Creamback got more volume, mids and presence. The clean sound is better with the Cream, also with the high gain distortion. But the Marshall crunch with the Greenbacks make the history...😉
That's weird. To my ears, it's the creamback that sound thinner, treblier, and even harsh. It's best sound was the 7 string distortion where it's low end was tighter than the greenback's, but that's it.
It ain't a fair comparison with flat EQ and the same gain settings. I have played both on the same amp and the same guitars and there is no such difference when you dial your tone. I agree that in this video particularly the greenback sounds "better", but this is not the same in real life situations.
“There is no such difference when you dial your tone?” This is a very strange thing my friend. There’ a many difference between the two speaker, olso if you work on eq.
There is no winner, it just depends how you want to hear the ears? They are both good! Many guitar players are always with sound busy, might be better to get more involved with your guitar playing than always with that sound!
I have a 4x12 Hiawat closes back w/ 2210 JCM 800 and I wanna switch to 2x12. I’m looking at a closed back Mojotone Slammins cab and I am torn on which speakers to use. Go with Greenbacks again or Creambacks???? I like my current greenback.
Dave Decker I know, my same problem of many years. I have too much fear of destroy my speakers. I try many types of Celestion and at the end I put the G12T75 in my Marshall dsl 40c. It’s not a greenback but a wonderful compromise.
I have just seen a video where the creamback kicked the ass of the greenback. Here both sounds totally different and now i don't know what i want and what i will found on each one. I think i will sell my guitar and all my gear and buy a ukelele, can't hold this.
Nando Seiscuerdas the same speaker can sound completely different from on amp to another. its important to try and Match the circuit to the right speaker you really have to look at how you're amp is voiced . a greenback might not be a good choice if an amp is already voiced heavily towards the mids or is light on the low end. sometimes amp makers design the circuit with a specific speaker in mind so sometimes the best choice is a speaker that is not to radically different from the stock speaker. some manufacturers just use what's the most economical at times too though. creamback h75 is a great alternative to a v30. quite different but not radically so. same magnet same db dating both have alot of cut in the upper mids although with the creamback they are not as pronounced because the speaker is better balanced if an amp is not designed with a greenback in mind they may not work as well.
FEARS you can use a creamback m65 which is voiced to be higher wattage greenback . they don't sound identical but they are close the creamback 65 has those woody greenback mids and the bass is much tighter and won't fall apart when pushed hard.
Rooster 7six in person the creamback has a much bigger low end. the creamback low. the creamback also has a very tight low end where the greenback end is very loose. I find sometimes if a speaker has a loose low end it van give the impression of having more low end the u string section is s perfect example of that.
Adam Watson that makes sense. I've only AB'd them at home against a V30. In my cab the V30 seemed to have more low end. But I still liked the creambacks better
Unfortunately this isn't a fair comparison between a Greenback and Creamback. What you are really comparing is the difference between "M" and "H" magnets. Putting a Greenback G12 M against a Creamback G12 H is going to be night and day 10/10 times.
G Rambo This is not a comparison of a same type of magnets or other. It's a simply test of difference between two different speaker. Don't must be a nerd discussion. Only a simple test.
Creamback it is but damn this audio or quality is s**t and definitely not a good representation of either of these speakers. Look elsewhere for a review.
Zaloral well I didn’t mean to step on your toes and I don’t believe it takes a professional recording studio to get good sound quality. These days it’s more than easier to get great sound quality for not much money. I was doing some things old school because I’m 35 until a young 25 year old was like hey try this and it blew my mind. I was out of technology world and focused on just the old school bare tools. New tools, software, recording gear and more is so much cheaper, accurate and readily available to everyone and within budget of everyone. And you just buy little things at a time. And years ago this was not the case. For the most part a lot of artists record now from home, in the bathroom and wherever with today’s advancements. It doesn’t take an actual studio, a second mortgage, selling one of your kidneys or selling your first newborn. Again sorry if I stepped on your toes or sounded like an ass. Chin up and take a look around and you’ll find some great stuff. Btw I checked out your other videos and your a great player and seem like a genuine cool guy. Keep it up 👍
Lyric Klein don't worry, I wasn't offended, mine was a joke. I think that professional recordings are especially useful for those looking for a professional sound. But the vast majority of musicians play by passion, and when they record the sound they hear is like the one I propose: homemade and imperfect. Often it happens to buy a pedal hear it on its web site and then be disappointed hearing it play live at home. Maybe I'll have to change the name of my channel with: "gear test for dummies" ... 😂
