This video provides an overview of celiac disease.
You will learn simple definitions for celiac disease and gluten.
You will also learn the symptoms of celiac disease, how celiac disease is diagnosed, and how celiac disease is treated with a gluten-free diet.
***NOTE: PLEASE READ***
It has been brought to my attention that I didn’t do enough to highlight the pitfalls of gluten-free labeling in this video.
A food labeled gluten-free under the FDA rule isn’t foolproof. It doesn’t always ensure the food is free of cross-contact in processing and manufacturing.
So, it’s important to never rely on one strategy when choosing a food, but rather all forms of investigation mentioned in the video.
You can also try calling the manufacturer (not mentioned in the video).
Many patients do find the gluten-free certifications are more reliable due to their rigorous testing standards.

Good video but some Celiacs react to the Avenin in oats regardless of whether cross contamination has occurred. I can’t eat gluten free oatmeal unfortunately (and I’ve tried Bob Reds Mill oatmeal). I’ve attempted to introduce it back into my diet many times but always get bad results.

Certified gulten free is safe. If it says gulten free it isn't safe for celiac because it could be cross contaminated.

Gluten is also in cat litter, and be careful. Domino's pizza offers gluten free pizza, tho they don't guarntee againist cross contamination.

Wow! In cat litter too? Thank you for sharing that information. Did you know that there's gluten in frozen foods/vegetables too? Sorry, I don't remember the full reason for it - some of Celiacs do not have good memories :)

Interesting! Don’t give up on trying to find answers. If you haven’t already, you can always seek a 2nd or 3rd opinion 🙏🏼

Also, depending on how many samples they took when you had your endoscopy can make a difference. The average is about 6, but for celiac, it should be closer to 15. P.S. There are alot of stories in my celiac support group of people having many false negatives, before discovering they were right. Sadly, many of todays Drs are not schooled in Celiac disease, and have no idea what it looks like. I had nearly 25 different symptoms, before my "trigger" a year and a half ago, and I broke out in a blistering rash, along my jawline from my ear lobes, to the corners of my mouth, and the outer edges of my eyes. 4 months and 5 Drs later, no one knew what it was, they just agreed it was not viral. Im a retired EMT, and I eventually diagnosed myself. It was D.H. and if you have D.H. you have Celiac by default. Do you know, not a single physician, and their staff had ever heard of, Dermatitis Herpetiformus. Further more, none of them knew the proper testing proticols when it came to ingestion of gluten and blood work and one actually said to me, "Its clear to me you know far more about this illness than I do." But where it got really crazy is, one Dr refered me to a dermatolegist, to get the lesions biopsied, they called me 2 months ago to schedule the biopsy, Im not even kidding. So clearly Dermatologists are not trained either. If so, when they read what the order was to test for, they should have called within a few weeks. Now my lesions are healed, unless I get glutened, and then magically 3 days later blisters start forming on my face. My symptoms immediately began dissappearing. Its only been a year, and Im still shocked at how long it takes to get better. But I am better! Blisters gone, and I was going to the Dr regularly and bringing up my symptoms, 22 years later, I diagnosed myself. Ive lost all faith in Drs. One even told me studies say vitamins are bad when I asked for a B 12 shot. When I told him that I had spent a bunch of money on vitamins and supplements, he said it was a waste of money, my reply..... "then explain how I suddenly feel better AFTER, I started taking them?"

​@@AuroraLakes My sister, mom, neice and I all get that rash. My mom's biopsy said no celiac. It's really frustrated. My kids also have issues with gluten, my son especially had tons of symptoms but his blood work for celiac was negative. But we're eating gluten free now anyway.

​@snowps1 If the rash was the only symptom, then it is ridiculous to have a biopsy done. Chances are it would be negative. Gastrointestinal symptoms usually cause damage to the intestine if caused by Celiac. That being said the removal of gluten from the diet to see if the symptom (rash) disappears would make more sense. If it does then that should be an official diagnosis of Celiac.

@@clinicalnutritionuniversity Early in the video you give a pass to many foods that are likely subject to contamination but in fairness you address this some later. Unless the food is raw or certified gluten free it shouldn't be on a celiac diet. Even processing of raw natural so called gluten free foods in a facility that has a gluten containing ingredient is unsafe. Perhaps you covered this after I stop watching your video. And perhaps the reason you are less direct in saying so is to increase the length of the video to monetize it better.
