Centurion Mk 10 vs M60A1 | L52 APDS | Armor Penetration 

I was one of the early generation of US Army Abrams tankers, on the original M1 and later the M1A1. The older M60 types (19Es) who transitioned over to the Abrams always thought very highly of their old tanks, but, yeah, they weren't as impervious as they thought they were. The TTS on the later M60A3s was a better night vision sight than the M1's TIS, but that was mostly Congress forcing the Army to keep the M1's price tag down. Once again it hits home (no pun intended) just how revolutionary the Abrams was for the US Army.

Watching the setup of the simulation, the projectile shape seemed to me to be so non-optimal against highly sloped armor that I was sure it wouldn't "bite" the armor and ricochet. And at the beginning of the simulation it seemed so... It deformed, started to slide... but went through anyway :-).

The shell basically bruteforced itself in killing the driver on the spot,leaving a massive home in the frontal armor

I'm honestly surprised the glacis managed to deflect as much of the shell as it did. It still wrecked the absolute shit out of that M60, but I was sure it was going to just pop through like it wasn't even there given that the L52A1 can carve through an insane amount of armor.

That's interesting: I wouldn't have expected the penetrator to "flip around" like that and enter base-first. ...but maybe that's a result of sort-of "half deflecting" due to the slope of the armour?
