Poetry and the Arts for a More Just World:
Ada Limón in Conversation with Mariko Silver
Ada Limón, 24th Poet Laureate of the United States, takes the main stage for a poetry reading followed by a conversation with President and CEO of the Henry Luce Foundation Mariko Silver. Limón is the author of six books of poetry, including “The Hurting Kind” and “The Carrying” and teaches at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina. She draws inspiration from the natural world and writes evocatively on social and environmental issues, approaching these subjects - and others - with an intimate, holistic, and deeply human lens. Silver was named President and CEO of the Henry Luce Foundation, one of the largest funders to the humanities in the United States, in August 2019. Prior to joining the foundation, she was the president of Bennington College, and previously served in the Obama administration. Interspersed with Limón’s poetry readings, the two will engage in a discussion about the role of the arts in making a most just world.
